I think this si symptamatic of the whole season. The away support is now a complete disgrace.

Only two years ago we were taking nearly a thousand to Scunthorpe and now we struggle to sell out Wycombe and take about 250 to Millwall. The away following on Tuesday was poor and last night was disgraceful. As i said it is like the whole season, 150 to Wrexham etc.
We cant force people to go but I presume lots of people watched the game last night. This might encourage more to go.

Woah!!!!Slow down.Firstly the fans who went were excellent as are ALL Bees fans at every away game.Secondly,many of our normal travelling fans come from a wide area of Southern England(and elsewhere) and a Friday evening in Bermondsey isn't easy to get to believe me!Thirdly,football is an expensive hobby and with the chance to save a few bob and watch it on Sky I don't blame people for taking this opportunity.(It made a change for me to watch the Bees sober

If you were there it was vital to YOU.If you weren't then so be it.I wasn't there as I had a semi-traumatic day which cost me a lot of money.That doesn't make me "pathetic" or whatever.I am as loyal as the next fan.Many others who stayed away are the same.Don't get on your high horse because YOU were there.Think of the times when YOU couldn't/wouldn't go.We have all done it.Unfortunately some grounds are not popular with Bees fans.I know 1,500 were there last season.But this was a Friday and Live on TV.Football,for me,IS SATURDAY @ 3pm,and the occasional midweek.
If the opinion is that Bees fans "bottled" it well what a sad life you lead.

Bees away support is determined by the teams performance and not a question of being "concerned" by a couple of "boneheads"
Anyway,I'm not sure I want to stand with some of the whingeing bastards on here!

Fair play 2 u boys in the away end, u made your presence felt, and got respect from the corporate Millwall that were around me. just a shame u all looked so drowned by all them seats around u. What has happened 2 all the support we took 2 Reading that was superb and we need 2 bring that back, its places like Millwall that the players need our full support. Although thre was 1 bloke I was speaking to at half-time who had full sympathy 4 travelling fans 2 the east-end it was no other than Hachet Harry from Lock Stock, top bloke.
Respect goes 2 u , I counted 190, I would av been over there but Turkey & leek soup and coffee and biscuits, and winning the raffle sold it. We did get the Millwall treatment though when at times we got a bit excited and when Owusu was through on goal for the 2nd time up jumped my mate and I 2 the shouts of "come on Lloydy, just 1 off the shin 4 us" a 7 year old local suddenly pumps up from behinds us and squeeks "If your f*$£ing Brentford, u should piss off with all your other c**ts" a dry slap was what was needed, but looking around he had brought all his family, all very inbred. We continued 2 shout the bees on and talk 2 the locals, all be it on a basic level, and I did not c 1 piece of trouble, and I get the feeling they r not 2 bothered about the un-crewed teams. Seriously, lets try 2 make an effort and at least go to the places that r accessibl 4 a few quid, if we can take 300 to Barnet on a week night, we can do better than this, so come on lets put in some effort, afterall what else r we ganna do!!!!!!!

Well said Jimbee. I planned 2 start a post on this meself. It was DISGRACEFUL. How can 621 people (well the majority of) slag off Noades and half the team for lack of effort and then less than half go to the game. I agree it was embarrassing seeing us few fans there when I watched the re-run on Sky. How much motivation do people need? We were away to the leaders. Who play in the same city as us. It was on Sky which should encourage people 2 sing their hearts out and prove how good us Bees fans are. So where the bloody hell was everyone? It's an absolute JOKE.

I think it was something to do with how Milwall are viewed particularly after the game at GP. All credit to those that went but I suspect many felt it was not right to go..probably a pointless exercise as far as Millwall are concerned but there you are. God help division 1 next year.

I apologise unreservedly (sp) to all those embarrased by my lack of presence (and others) in the Millwall away end at the game played on 16th February, 2001. I have started on plans for the suicide/sacrifice of myself for this most evil crime. I hope all the other Bees not there do the same. Heck I only watched the first 20 mins on tv, and listened to the last 15 on Radio 5, so therefore I feel a very painful death should await me.

I see what ur saying Dan, but once fans have paid their money it's down to them whether they want to be vocal or not. I always try and give the team as much vocal support as possible but some just aren't the loud type and it pisses me off when those who do sing have a go at those who don't.

It took nearly 2 hours to drive from Chiswick to Bermondsey (I'm blaming the co-driver!) and the journey through London on a Friday night would have been enough reason for a lot of people to give it a miss. Stripes was open for the screening and I know a few regular travelling supporters were there for the game. Anyone know how many?

The reputation of our hosts will also have a detrimental effect on the turn out but I've got to say they ain't nearly as fearsome as they used to be. Most are just kids making stupid noises.

WEB, the away support cannot be "a complete disgrace" because we go just about everywhere eh? Darlington on a Tuesday night, getting home at 4 in the morning! Dunno how noisy we we're in the ground but I just wish everyone would join in to some of the easier chants. I'm sure at some time in their lives everyone has sung at least once "Come on you Bees". The words aren't exactly difficult are they?

Well I suppose like a lot I took the easy option. Getting to Millwall in the rush hour on a Friday night aint a picnic.

I dont know how many you expected really for a game live on TV on a Friday night with 2 home games coming up against a team whos fans dont exactly make you feel welcome.

I do feel a little bit guilty I suppose because I wouldnt have missed it had it been today but I think your post is well OTT Jimbee. I've been at loads of games where we've had plenty less than last night.

You were there and you were embarrassed, I wasnt and I as proud of the way we played....

Think how embarrassed you will feel if we beat Southend and we take 4000 to Cardiff and Stoke take 35000.

On reflection I believe my statement was a bit harsh. However I do think that we should be taking more to games like this.
It seems to me that the away support is dwindling, any ideas why? I've only been going regularly home and away for three years but even before that I was going to places like Millwall (ie local). The away suport we do take is usually vocal and I'm sure the team appreciate it but I'm concerned that in a few years there will be even less going. Obviously there are some people who will go home and away without fail and some who won't. Anyway my point is that the whole support for the club is falling, home and away, and something needs to be done to reverse the trend.

It wrenched my heart out not to go to Millwall but after going last season when we lost because some tw*t of a ref added about 8 mins of stoppage time on,I vowed I wouldn't go there again in a hurry.Plus,after taking a day of work and travelling down to Swansea on Wednesday night and hearing about the swords,axes and ball and chains that they took there,that did nothing to change my mind.That's the first televised Bees League game on Sky when I haven't made the trip(I was at the old Den when we were thrashed in front of the cameras back in the 92/93 season)So please 'get off your high horse',and stop moaning about such petty subjects.Have you ever thought about the cost of travelling to every away game for some people,if we were all millionaires we wouldn't let Noades try and sell us down the river would we!

The TAZ was a fully committed Bs fan at scum alley on Friday night, and yes we were unlucky to lose out,but The Den is a daunting venue for a lot of fans of any club in the country, so to accuse any true supporter of being AWOL is bang out of order.

Jimbee, bit harsh eh? Millwall are scum, we've had loads of away games in recent weeks, not everyone can afford to go, the game was on tv, Friday night game, etc, etc.
You've got every right to come on here and air your opinion, but just to slag your fellow fans off is not on. I agree that I was disappointed with the support, I would love to have been there but travelling from Leicester ensures at least £50 per game, even home games, but this was inevitable, considering the above excuses. If we were realistically pushing for play-offs, and it was on a Saturday, we would have brought even more than last season. Was it about 2300 last season? Can't remember exactly, but consider the circumstances. It's not a f*ck**g joke, it's people's wallets and the league position.

Firstly, I apologise for my use of language and capitals on Friday night and maybe I overstepped the mark. However, the principle of the matter was that we were playing our only game in London this season and there were less than 10% of our normal home support there. Millwall fans were laughing at us, I was with them during the game. For those of you who think I believe every fan should go to every game, you are wrong. However, I cannot think of another match that Brentford have ever played so close to Griffin Park where the attendance was so pitiful. I was with 6 other Bees fans and we were all embarassed and still are.

I agree with what Jimbee said although I'm not proud of it. A lot of you on here dont like it and I will hold my hand up and say I didn't go to the game either, but we could ALL have made a bigger effort. I was embarrassed watching it sitting at home. When the Millwall fans sang "we laugh at the Brentford fans" how could anyone argue with that? Even Wigan took 3 times more to the game than we did. Regardless of any excuses, mine included, on the night we WERE an embarrassment, fortunately the players did us proud, but frankly not many of us did them proud and I do feel guilty about that, because looking back on it, I should have been there.

I have muchos respect for you and any Bees fans that made the trip and I agree with Gravedigger about being guilty for not making such a short trip.

However, I dont think you should get too hung up on Millwall fans embarrassing you over our low turnout. To be honest, they might have had 10,000 there but they embarrassed me by being such braindead, racist bigots. Thats what you expect from them though and any criticism from them on anything rings fairly hollow.

In the unlikely event that Sky ever decide to televise a home league game of ours we can all take our turn at laughing at the oppositions crowd....thats what TV does.

I've lost count of the amount of money I've spent over the years supporting Brentford home and away (in years gone by Barrow and Workington away in 4 days). Like many people Friday is almost sacred to me - my night out with the missus or for a beer etc. I appreciate the players would have liked more support butit did not alter what was a good performance. Lets face it Millwall made the commercial decision to take Skys money and deprive us of a normal Saturday match.

I'll be at Griffin Park on Tuesday and Saturday and this is where all Bees fans should be. Noades moans are about the size of the home crowd, not who didnt go to Millwall. When we get the gates needed at home then talk about away support 'til then give it a rest. I'm bl**dy fed-up with it!!

For personal reasons I couldn't go on Friday and for a similar reason I can't go tomorrow night.

Millwall is not the nicest of places to go to and I have been to the old/ new Den on at least 6 occassions.

Millwall is a poor place to get to, transport wise, it might be one of the closest games on the map but Wycombe, Reading, Oxford, Luton, Swindon, Bristol City, Bristol Rovers and Bournemoth are probably easier venues to get to now.

I have seen the Bees play league football at 96 different venues (yes 96 and I've still got 10 clubs to do). Our away support like our home support used to be brilliant and always amongst the top 5 in the division.

It wasn't just the football it was the day out. Unfortunmatley addmission prices, the cost of a pint, the rising cost of train travel coupled with your average West london mortgage payment has put the price out of most people reach. This was a financial saving to be made. I saw the game with me mates and my take away beers in a comfy seat in the warth of a living room.

Never mind being embarrassed over how many we took. Those that went made a terrific noise. Watching the video of the game there are plenty of moments when all you can hear is Bees singing. Given that we were outnumbered in the region of 50 to 1 - that is pretty impressive.

And they've only got one song!

anyway, the thing that grates with me about it is that there are a lot of people on this site who are genuinly scared of going to some matches, i.e millwall, cardiff, bristol city etc..
thats fine because thats your own opinion but i wish they wouldnt come on here voicing their thoughts and putting other people who might have been sitting on the fence off from going.
if your scared keep it to yourself and let the rest of us make our OWN decision.
I genuinly had a good time before, during and after the game on friday and saw absolutely nothing to be worried about.
i think most of us are big and clever enough to look after ourselves.

i can already see the 'frightened brigade' getting ready with their comments about 'Cardiff' should(WHEN) we reach the final.

I didn't start this thread so that I could say @I was there, where the hell were you?'. If I had been watching the game at home or in the pub I would STILL be embarassed. Despite all the excuses, I doubt if there will be a smaller away following for any game south of Birmingham this season. We all know there is nothing like being there to support the team. As I said before, we expect 100% of the players, is it not right for them to expect some sort of commitment in return.

No it isn't. They get paid for the privilege of playing for the club and as such should be expected to give their best. Which pleasingly has been the case recently for most of them.

We however are supporters. We support the club because we enjoy it not because we are expected to do it. As such we are entitled to choose when we support.That is an individual decision.

Does the fact that only about a quarter of the regular away following attended this match not tell you that there were particular reasons for most of us not going.

Have to agree with Jimbee. It WAS embarrassing. Live game or no live game it was a poor turnout. Despite it being a London derby we never seem to take as many as we should to Millwall.

I've been to Millwall old & new 5 or 6 times now & have never seen any trouble.

The fact that it was live cant in all honesty be blamed as I can remember when we played Farnborough in a cup replay a few years ago we took loads more fans to their ground for a midweek game. (From memory we weren't doing particularly well at the time either.)

I suspect Friday was a combination of: the live game, the Millwall fear factor & the expense. There was probably a certain amount of not wanting to give up the usual Friday night drinking routine as well.

I dont mean to upset anyone who wasn't there( you alll had your reasons) but the disappointment at our turnout was very real.

The club do not help in these matters.

My two lads are still at school/college. They are over 16 and usually (or rather I have to for them) pay full whack to get in. Add the fares, programmes, refreshments, etc and it is not cheap supporting the Bees away. We try and get to as many away games as we can afford in both money and time terms.

However, away travel on the official coaches is a bloody expensive busines, especially when there are three of you. The cost is high compared to what other clubs appear to charge and the concessions are nothing short of a a joke (£1.00 off!!!!).

My lads would have us to all the away games if possible, but I'm sorry the bank manager, and my wife, do not consider it essential spending.
