Just wondering where this "extra" money is coming from to fund a loan signing for six months apart from the players fund.

staggered to hear that Scott thought the players should be fitter....i would have thought that was a "taken" nowadays that all footballers were as fit as they could be
obviously LR must have let that side slide

Could someone post a general summary for someone who's work commitments prevented attendance?

Just wondering where this "extra" money is coming from to fund a loan signing for six months apart from the players fund.

When a board is in a panic it always finds monies from "somewhere".

I had no inside knowledge (and that is the truth) but I posted somewhere on here maybe two months ago that I would bet half my house that even with the budget in shreds monies would be found in January. You can read this lot like a book and play them like a drum. However it seems that Greg Dyke is talking about monies available to cover a loan signing for six months (or presumably two for three months or three for two months) at (my number) £1k per week assuming that we can cut a deal with the lending club covering a portion. For twenty five weeks then that would mean £25k being "found" of which £7k is already in the Players Fund, another (what is it ) £8/9k in Fighting Chance with maybe £8k coming from the wreckage of the budget.......or was he actually talking about new monies over and above what is in the Players Fund and Fighting Chance??

The two Golden Rules of football are :-

1) Every squad of every club is always two players short of World Domination

2) Every board of directors of every club suddenly finds extra monies from "somewhere" to keep the "great unwashed" reasonably happy even when the budget is in tatters.

To be fair I was impressed with Keith Dickens and what he did...

I cant beleive a lot of people were moaning and saying this is boring etc. He was only trying to tell you all the facts and it gave me a clear insight into how this guy works and what he has to offer. He is obviously very good at what he does hence his previous work experience.

From what I took he has taken a step back and stopped looking at things as a "Football Club" and started looking at Brentford FC as a business model.

He is clearly trying to turn this club into a succesfull business, which to be fair is something it has never really been. He is trying to get rid of all the small things that operate at a loss or a drain on the club (i.e The PR).

He also said that the attendance figure should be viewed as a revenue rather than a figure, which is true! Only problem is this guy needs the right support from the board to be able to progress with these plans, and he clearly feels that there are'nt the right people to offer the support he needs.

Although long winded he obviously has the attributes to be the MD of the club, even if his business presentation was taken as a joke to some.

Greg Dyke ......

Made everything sound good and is great at putting a spin on things....

Someone asked him a question about why Leroy was allowed to sign "Fola" when plans were already in motion to replace the manager.

He said it was unfair to speak about players...

However after the presentation, the fan was told that with the funds available to Leroy for 1 or 2 loan signings he could'nt let Leroy sign anyone else after seeing how bad the last player he signed was!lol

Interesting in the differing (vastly differing) views on the Dickens presentation between you and the Chairman elect of BU on the news forum. I've been hugely impressed with what I've heard from KD so far so was a tad surprised to hear it was boring.

What did other people think.

Nobody seems to have commented on what sounds like a huge announcement that we are bidding to buy Lionel Rd today. Any more details given or questions asked or anything we can be told by our supporters trust etc.

Firstly have you ever heard Banana speak? (Pot kettle black!)
Secondly - F*** Lionel Road, just give me a team who can fight for our first division status - no-one will come to a new stadium in The Conference..
Thirdly - Was the evening well attended and how much did we make on the Race Night?

I thought it was good presentation, only thing there are people there who are'nt use to this type of thing and it would have gone over most of their heads or as soon a slide show, hand out and figures etc just switched off. No fault of anyones, but people have different jobs etc, and some dont involve the sort of thing that Keith presented. Mine does however so I found very interesting.

Perhaps he should ammend the way he deals with fans at things like this, not everyone is used to the type of thing he did, but he was trying to portray as much information as possible.

I found it interesting, informative and usefull and from my point of view a couple of things he did I will use in the future. Cant be much wrong in using ideas from the former MD of P&G!:sorted:

I think the LR news is extremely positive - nice to see some long term movement - however should we now vote for Red ken in the mayoral elections to ensure we get his backing.?

Morning!

I actually laughed when Dyke said how powerful RED Ken is now and how his powers will be extended even further next year and that on his own Ken could make Lionel Road happen if he wanted too. What made me laugh was the thought of a couple of GPG ers response to that statement alone.lol

I thought he put his message across very well and to be honest, I don't see how he could have provided a cold business analysis any other way. Scorecards are an effective way of measuring and most well run companies present this way. I can't help thinking that if the professionalism shown by him had been applied by our previous MDs since Noades left, we'd be in far better shape (and wouldn't own a pub!).

Dickens presents both strategy and financial results in a typical "big" corporate company style....as few sheets of paper as possible! That is how I am used to working having worked for Wolseley for many years so that was both of interest to me and made simple sense IMHO

Dyke is a little different in style, confident under pressure, which he was last night by a couple of questions and you can see him shift his shoulders, straighten up, compose himself before finding a spin answer to a difficult question. He also sometimes says a little too much when he perhaps shouldn't and that was again the case last night regarding the new stadium land bid!!

You only have to compare and contrast with his predecessor to realise he's streets ahead in many areas (eh Banana :fishing: ).

OK so he gave a corporate style presentation that went over some peoples' heads. Others really appreciated it. He didn't command the room throughout (maybe his mic should have been turned up a bit?) and could have wound it up a bit earlier but on the whole I thought he did well.

There were very few details about the Lionel Road announcement and unfortunately their weren't many questions from the floor so an opportunity was missed.

From what I can gather

GP is sold to a developer, raises £x million, clears our debts.
Developer builds on GP and makes nice profit.
Developer pays for LR.
Developer gets substantial land in LR and builds stadium complex free of charge as he will again earn from private sales on the rest of the site.

Hence developer makes enough money from property sales on GP and LR to build stadium for nothing.

Of course I may be totally wrong!

And also, everything seems to resolve around LR becoming a reality, ie bid accepted, everything starts to get rosy in Mid 2008 when the deals are finally signed and in the public domain.

However, I missed Keith Dickens first few minutes so was left wondering if there is a Plan B if LR doesnt come off.

LR was a reality I'm afraid and now we have to get over him and move on. :sorted:

The key for whether LR comes off for BU, is the planning permission for the "towers" developments on the site. I am led to believe that the developers have discussed these provissionally with LBH planning and the business case depends on positive news on the towers.

I am starting to think that the business case is there now (due to the extra towers capacity), but persuading locals and stopping public enquiries is the key.

I was going to ask Burgess and Dyke if seeing as the new ground is so close to the flight path, the M4, the A4 and all the ensuing traffic fumes, whether it would be a good idea to make the Health centre a Private Health Center and we could put a turnstile in so that we ensure everybody pays with BFC picking up a commissionlol

I work in the world of politics. The support of Livingstone (who incidentally readily admits he knows f**k all about sports) towards the new stadium is useful, but I hope the people negotiating the deal know what buttons to press to get his, and the local councils firm support for what will be a difficult planning process.

1/ The club need to stress the regeneration effects a new stadium and developments surrounding it will bring to the area. More high rise won't be popular but can be overcome.

2/ If a major transport interchange can be incorporated in the scheme that will help. Any chance of properly linking train, tube and bus? Local residents will oppose on grounds of extra traffic and overcoming this objection is the key.

3/ Everyone needs to look at the Mayor;'s London Plan,
docs.jsp
, revisions to which are out to public consulation until December 22nd. Are there sections in there that could help Brentford FCs case for Lionel Road?

4/ Plans need to be put in to place now to deal with the objections there will be from local residents, amenity socities and the like. Don't forget a major development on this site will have huge impacts on places like Kew, with increased traffic levels etc, tall buildings etc, and you can be sure that there will be more opposition than support from these quarters. KD will need to use his Powerpoint presentations to win the residents (and Richmond Council for instance) over, and GD will need to remind all of those people who work in the media and live in the area how they still should love him;)

I really hope I am teaching people to suck eggs here, and that all this plus much more has already been done. I have more confidence that KD,GD and the Board are likely to have thought about all this than previous 'leaders' at our club would have done, and I think their public relations skills are a 100% better than we have had for a long time - but it won't be easy folks!

Reading the reports of the forum all came across as quite positive, Fitz seemed honest regarding the state of the team albeit somewhat frightening as to the levels of fitness!!!! Was interested that Lionel Road seems somehow to have moved a lot closer and will bve interesting to see what official comments are made in view of Greggs comments regarding an offer today!!

IMO the decision regarding the new manager is perhaps the most important for many years, we have a MD who seems to know what he is doing there apears to be lots of activity in the back regarding Lionel Road so it is imperative that this appointment is one that will manage to keep us in the division as relegation now could spell the death knell for the club

It intrigued me to read that Fitz feels it's the fitness that's lacking in the team. Earlier in the season we seemed to come on strong towards the end of the game when the opposition was flagging.. There were even posts on here saying Leroy worked the players too hard..

I've not seen any great fitness problems, just lack of organisation and cohesion, and a fair amount of poor technique/giving the ball away in dangerous areas...

Surely we'd be better off working on defending as a team and keeping possession rather than doing more and more running work in the middle of a season?

Anyone else got any thoughts on this?
