I see absolutely no reason why smokers can`t smoke in the forecourt. If the law says no, it is an ass and should be challenged.

Try Liberty moribee mate.

I have no problems with smokers never have.

...........my interpretation of that is that it includes forecourts etc.....anything within the 'four walls' of the ground I would imagine would be classed as 'throughout the stadium confines'..........and I make the point as a previous smoker (the worst kind of the lot, so I'm reliably informed)......

I'm fairly sure you're right about "confines". As soon as you're through the turnstile you're in the stadium confines

I'm not sure how practical a pass-out system is: a few dozen (?) people all wanting to charge out after the half-time whistle and back in just before the re-start. Also not sure whether the people of Braemar Rd/New Rd will appreciate bunches of people hanging around outside their homes to grab a fag.

I think the club could allow a small forecourt space for smokers at halftime - if they marked out 3-4 yards from the Braemar turnstiles, staff could stay well away from there, but if the League are pushing for stadia to be completely smoke-free that may be a non-starter.

Do the club open the gates just after half-time, like it used to, to let the long-suffering supporters out early.........?

  ..................if the smokers could then somehow guarantee that the smoke wouldn't waft outside of that 3-4 yards..............????:fishing:

The Club. How expensive can this be? A PC and a laminator and you're away. We've got stewards hanging around the place every match day. Put a couple on the gates at half-time to let people in and out.
You have to pay for people to administer the system each match day. And you'd have to do it better than the club admistered pass-outs between Brook Rd Upper and Lower last season, or you'd find dozens of people coming in for free.

Ed, we already pay the stewards, don't we? One of them could operate the system on each side of the ground, couldn't they?

And, yes, they would have to do it properly, so, er, it's probably not a good idea.

BFC and tickets of any description: not a good combination.

It's absolute b***ocks to talk about the government trying to legislate away harm. They are clearly allowing you and other smokers to continue harming yourself. They haven't banned smoking outright, have they? What they have done is to offer me, a non-smoker, and other people like me some protection from the consequences of your actions.
Yes, exactly. Kill yourself, that's fine by me. Contribute to my death? **** off.

Pro-tip to the club:

1) Define your policy.
2) Draw us a picture.
3) Colour it in.
4) Post it on the website.

Thanks.

Oh and can someone tell me what the actual full name of the relevant law is? I've tried to find it but all I can find are various definitions of what's actually going to happen. Even ASH doesn't seem to state exactly what the legislation is actually called. That's where the confusion lies. Everyone's published their interpretation on the internet instead of the actual law.

Has Moribee had a sensible answer yet?

My understanding is that this is a FL edict. They are pressing for consistency from all clubs to enforce both the no-smoking policy within the grounds but also the "no pass-out" recommendations as well. Allowing pass-outs has implications for the number of stewards required to manage the process, and also implies that there will be smoking areas outside each stand that would be suitable and wouldn't p**s off the residents in the area who could be knee deep in fag butts. The other issue is around security - if we are allowed outside the ground at half-time there's nothing to stop opposing fans kicking off outside the ground and so the Police would likely have something to say about it.

I'm a smoker who's not looking forward to the ban but I can understand the way it's being applied.

no sensible answer as yet. As a season ticket holder one shouldnt need a pass out. As a member at cricket one can go in and out as often as they like, same applies to baseball in the US. Its not complicated except of course they have my money up front so they can treat me a sh*t as they like. Again the question of staff and hospitality guests still applies, and we know what will happen there dont we.

Re the pass-out system: I can understand if, as atkinsm1 says that it's the FL trying to have a standard, because could you imagine if 20,000 people left the Emirates at 345pm to go for a cig? Unrealistic, but possible if it was properly organised as a protest against the policy.
If there is a pass-out system, I don't understand why they can't just let people out and let them back in when they show their match day ticket or ST book. Or just stamp their hands. Preferably with the word "KILLER" or similar. Kidding about that last bit.

Good job you're not a maths teacher ;)

:( Less a case of maths and more a case of age and the complete refusal to accept that another decade has slipped by ..... :(

Well done everyone, for spotting my deliberate mistakes ;)

The price of sarcasm is public ridicule when you f*ck it up  Christ, it's like Orwell's 1984 in here ..... :sneakoff:

I am all for the ban

If you can't stop smoking for about two hours....

not sure what you mean but we can't afford to force more fans away from griffin park. smoking is an addiction not a hobby to deliberately annoy/kill people around you.

I do hope some other poor ***** don't have to put up with this total moron
