I support the spectacle rather than any particular team/driver, but when I saw the manouver live I thought Lewis had been hard done by, but I think the video above shows that he could have followed Kimi around the corner. Maybe he thought he would end up with a tyre on the white paint and turf it into the wall?

My mind is still not made up on this yet, but I agree with Jackie Stewart that there should be a permanent set of race stewards that could have leapt on this instantly, told McLaren to let Kimi have the lead for a corner and then let lewis loose - he would have had him anyway as Kimi couldn't cope with the rain.

The inconsistency is terrible - when Max Mosley is naughty he gets spanked by expensive hookers however a minor infraction by Lewis Hamilton results in him being denied a win. Surely Lewis should be told what number he needs to count up to in German and take his punishment before the next race

It's very simple. You go to court on the appropriate date, one side argues it is inadmissible, other side counters then the judge makes a ruling.

I do find it strange that you have to go to court to find out that the court isn't allowed to make a ruling. I would have thought that this decision could have been made immediately and therefore there are no grounds for appeal.

As for interest, the FIA (Ferrari Supporters club) and Bernie are doing their level best to kill any interest that was starting grow.

I used to watch the GPs regularly when Damon Hill was racing, Schumacher killed the interest off, he got away with numerous dodgy practises, but then he was racing for Ferrari.

I was just starting to get back into it, thanks to Hamilton, but the FIA and Bernie are pissing on the flames of interest.

Why do you think he could have avoided it? Yes, he cut across a chicane during a heated racing incident (and lots of drivers have done it ) and upon advise from Charlie Whiting gave the position back to Raikkonen. ..and yet was still penalised. If it had beeen any other racing team, this incident would have not even been considered. I have travelled to many F1 races in other countries and I do not support one particular team. However , the blatant bias against Ron Dennis and his team has certainly made me lose interest in the sport along with many other people as well. It would be interesting if a statto could find other instances whereby a driver overtook by cutting a chicane and who gave back the place and who was then penalised afterwards it's all wrong...

When I watch a sport, I want the outcome of what I watch to be conclusive. Any punishments should be deferred to the future.

FIA = Ferrari International Assistance. Another example here. Massa exits the pits unsafely in Valencia when ahead of Hamilton - Fine. Massa exits the pits unsafely when behind a lot of the pack in the end - Drive Through Penalty.

1. Remove concrete run-off areas. Bring back grass and gravel and punish the drivers when they make a mistake
2. Introduce a ballast system for each point you score. 1 point = 1kg of weight to be added to the car meaning that the better teams get more equal with the lesser teams.
3. In Qualifying drivers have to use race-fuel for the entire session meaning strategies will differ and it punishes drivers who make a mistake.
4. Bring back more traditional tracks and stop having these new tracks
5. Ban on-season testing. If you want to try something do it where everyone else can see

hmm... my point was more that, Hamilton could easily have waited for another couple of corners and THEN overtaken him. Hamilton's impatience gave them the possibility to impose the penalty.

shame i missed it, would've been interesting to see (from the pretty images point of view), but reading the BBC report does nothing but enhance the view that the sport is a sham. basically, nothing happened in the race itself, but the safety car jiggled it all around so that Alonso somehow ended up the winner. that's not racing is it

i'm bored of seeing you say this. this is the "West Ham-Sheff Utd" approach, isn't it. if someone CHEATS to win a race, then you can't just say "oh, hey, look, it's finished now - yeah, he might not have won if he'd played fair, but the race is finished and you can't change the result of a finished race". nonsense attitude
