Alonso down in 12th.:sorted:

Hopefully Lewis has learnt alot from last season and will come in and change his tyres when they need changing, not when they fall apart.

Formula 1 2008

Quality race, thoroughly enjoyed it with all the thrills and plenty of spills!
Lets hope the season can continue in this vein!

Any crashes ? Might watch the highlights/re-run then :D

Spanish headline today in marca.com

"Alonso achieves a fourth place which feels like a podium finish"

but it then goes on to say that his fourth place was very misleading.

Well woh watching the re-run the ended of traction control has made it a drivers challenge again.
Not that I know much about it but getting hooked thanks to little china

For those who missed the BBC and ITV coverage of the event, I've typed up my little digest of the main points.

Lewis Hamilton, Lewis Hamilton, Lewis Hamilton, Lewis Hamilton, Lewis Hamilton, some foreign bloke, Lewis Hamilton, Lewis Hamilton, some losers at the back of the grid in crappy cars, Lewis Hamilton, Lewis Hamilton, Lewis Hamilton, some other foreigners, Lewis Hamilton, Lewis Hamilton.

"Now, Michael Scumacher, great driver this Hamilton. Best ever, do you think?"

Radio 5 and ITV - "the stations that support our boys".
Journalists need not apply.

Formula 1 2008

Least it makes a change from the few seasons before last where James Allen made a mess in his pants every time he mentioned Jenson Button.

Formula 1 2008

I went and loved every minute of it.

Not many people seem to like Hamilton though - they were booing him :sorted:

Well done Lewis - it was great hearing the National Anthem played at the end :sorted:

He's the best driver on the grid right now and he's English...what do you expect?

They still didn't mention him as much as usual, although led the entire race was pretty irrelevant as his victory was never in doubt.

Formula 1 2008

Was a good grand prix and the early pace seems to be with Mclaren even though it did not look that way in testing

Insanley jealous that you were there, but have my tickets for July!!

I believe they were booing the politician not Lewis, when Lewis first got on the podium they weren't booing, when the politician got up to give him his trophy the booed.

Good race, though not being an early riser I watched the highlights!!

I like Brundle, his grid walks and conversations with the drivers/celebs are good. He also knows what he is talking about.

I like Brundle too, Allen is so biased towards the British drivers and most of what he says Brundle has to correct him on.

Lewis and Heikki relegated for dawdling while still on the racing line.....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3_GjtJ9SIY

after watching the news i thought it was a bit harsh, there was room for the racing ones to go through, but now we'll see how good Hamilton is, he has the car, does he have the ability......................

Formula 1 2008

I thought it was harsh until you saw the in-car from Heidfeld. Apparently the team told them a couple of faster cars were coming, so they were pretty stupid to be on that side of the track.

Will be good to see how they move up the field in the first lap or so.

Well the other week Patrick Head said that he wanted the faster cars to start at near the back of the grid, as it will make for a more exciting race. He's got his wish!

Naive and dangerous driving from both Mclaren drivers, penalty was mild IMHO. They knew what they were doing.

If you drive on the racing line doing about 50 it is almost suicide with cars on flying laps doing about 150 wanting the same space.

Formula 1 2008

Enjoyed watching the first couple of laps, now been pushed off in favour of Tellytubbies  Bad times

Formula 1 2008

finished 5th, haven't seen the race yet though only from news items, would be interesting to see if Hamilton could have pulled it off though.

I'm thinking of going to one of the F1 British GP testing days at Silverstone anybody ever been to one?

Yep - its Ok - :) you can wander about, there tends not to be too many people there, obviously not as good as a race weekend but you can get some decent pics and are not restricted too much on where you can go around the track(apart from round the pits of course!) :)

Just watched the rerun of the Malaysian GP, went to that weekend a few years back when it first started ...jeez it was hot. Done the Oz one twice now, 2nd time sat opposite the pits, did the pit lane walk on qualifying day and got to meet the drivers and team bosses etc by sheer chance afterwards as was walking round the rear of the pits and they were coming out into the car park. Would recommend a F1 GP weekend(if you like that sort of thing:sorted: )

I've doen the GP a couple of times, with support races and watched it on telly in the motorhome.

On test days, you don't see as much action, but you can get a bit closer. Testing is very hit and miss, you can get 6 or 8 cars out and then nothing for half an hour. You have to hope that one or two teams are going for reliability tests which should see them do 50 laps, rather than testing out a new bit of stick on carbon fibre which will see them do 3 or 4.

I think you would need to a bit fanatical to do a test day, but if you are, you may get a bit more out of it than doing the GP.

Formula 1 2008

I guess you mean the official 3 day test in June?

I've never been to this, but it should have most teams turning up as it is a local track for many and the others will also want to prepare for the GP itself. As JBN says, unless a car is doing a full race distance test, there will be times of just waiting around. Maybe wait and see which teams are due to visit - I am sure it will be reported somewhere.

Regarding the Friday of the race meeting itself, these are well worth going to if you want to catch a flavour of the GP but dont want to shell out extortionate prices for the Sunday race. The F1 action (Free Practice) is restricted to windows during the late morning and early afternoon, so you know that all teams will have cars out on the track at these times.

You also have the support event qualifying and other attractions of the full GP weekend, with it all being less hectic than on the Saturday or Sunday itself. Obviously it is more expensive than the test days. (about £50 it looks like this year).

On both testing and the Friday and Saturday of the race meeting, you will be able to move around the track with no bother viewing the action from several different locations.

Grand Prix teams tell Mosley he is a disgrace and put pressure on him to quit after sex video

Shock, horror, 67 year old has active sex life, likes Nazi-themed role playing, and can afford 5 prostitutes to do it with.

I expect most of the GPG is in the "he should resign" camp, but I'm in the "what goes on in private, as long as it's legal, should remain private" camp.

It :mad1: me that newspapers defend each other's right to invade and publish people's private lives, often acting as agent provocateur, and under the flimsiest veil of "in the public interest".

If it's his Nazi connections that the F1 teams don't like, well they've known about that for a long time.

Of course if his opinions or private life have affected his working life, that's a different matter.

Formula 1 2008

...the ONLY reason it has become a big issue now is because of the increasing reliance on the Middle East as a significant revenue stream in F1, where this sort of behaviour isn't tolerated (well, on the outside).

Mosley's behaviour may have been "known" about before, but now that he has to go to Dubai etc and suck up to the royal money men, suddenly it's a major major story... and unfortunately that's what the tabloids deal in. And in this case, this IS affecting his working life, therefore he will have to go.

The Saudi guys have already said that he's not welcome there, so that's the end of him I'm afraid.

Formula 1 2008

Agree he is a gonna , only a question of when. Money talks in F1 and he is a walking meltdown as far as the coffers are concerned.

I am all for people having private lives being private but if what has been reported is true it is pretty naive of him to be honest. You'd think as the Brownshirts son he would be careful about such things but then again maybe he wasn't play acting so much...

For one who has pontificated and preached about values etc in F1 motor racing he comes out looking pretty stupid IMHO.
