Formula 1 2011

I wish, with the exception of Monaco, that street circuits would be outlawed.

Typical Ferrari putting the new team orders to good use. Probably knew Button had cut that corner illegally and couldn't wait to stick Alonso in front of Massa.

How did the new driver (Perez) manage just one pit stop? Incredible performance.

Is Rubens Barrichello the new Eddie Irvine? What a nutter!

It was one of the worst Australian GPs I've seen. But it's one of the better street circuits, and produces better races than most of the Tillkedromes.

I heard Whitmarsh claim the pit-stop was to get Button penalised - that may or may not be the case. Had he let him through straight away he would have been higher up. He claimed on team radio he was past him but replays showed that was not the case as he was side-by-side (therefore the overtake was not complete).

A real shame Perez (and Kobayashi) was disqualified. I hope at the very least it's just Sauber who are stripped of the constructors points. A fantastic drive. I wasn't sure if he was in F1 for talent or because of his sponsorship but I think he answered that one today. Well done young man.

D'Ambrosio was OK, nothing more. Didn't notice Maldonado (He might be in F1 due to sponsorship more than talent) Di Resta looks as if he might have got a point on debut (depending on appeal)

As for Hispania, what's the point?

Formula 1 2011

I heard some high pitched whining yesterday, which could have been the grand prix or melbourne's hipsters bitching about it.

Personally I wish that **** ecclestone and his go karts would **** off to another city as it does briefly inconvenience me once a year.

I trust this adds to the debate.

Formula 1 2011

Onto Malaysia this weekend. Red Bull will probably dominate again. Maybe Hispania might qualify

Formula 1 2011

Hispania qualified. Still SIX seconds off the pace though. Just goes to show how slow they are.

Fantastic laps from both Hamilton and Vettel. Very exciting Q3. Looks like Schumi might need to retire now.

Formula 1 2011

Thought Hamilton had it in the bag, two stunning laps :)

Formula 1 2011

Better race for overtaking, yes. But Vettel has led every single lap this season, outside the pit-stop phases.

Formula 1 2011

Button did very well. Not sure why Hamilton spent the race going backwards though.

Didn't manage his tyres and getting hit by Alonso didn't help

Formula 1 2011

hit by Alonso, due to him weaving in front of Alonso - very much a 50/50 challenge....both drivers at fault...

Hamilton should have let the faster driver through...:owusu:

Alonso's 'penalty' was quite frankly a joke - of course he'd accept a meaningless penalty. Should have penalised him enough so he also dropped behind Kobayashi, who had another excellent race.
Didn't see the weaving - apparently was on the previous lap and probably wasn't as obvious as his weaving in front of Petrov last year. Alonso hitting him was 100% his fault. Hamilton had every right to try and keep him behind him, he wasn't being lapped. It's racing.

(1) What about Button ?
(2) "I didn't see it" ...Are you the Arsene Wenger of F1 ?
(3) Alonso got the same penalty as Hamliton - Why should a penalty for one driver be different to another driver's penalty ?

It certainly wasn't clear on the television where Hamilton's weaving came. I looked at his interview and he certainly didn't mention any weaving. Brundle tweeted: "I didn't see anything on screen which warranted Hamilton's post race penalty A damaged wing was sufficient penalty for Alonso's misjudgement" I was surprised Alonso had been "punished" post-race and even more surprised Hamilton was as well.
Because his "penalty" didn't punish him. They were also different offences. I'd say causing a collision is worse than moving more than once.

....moving more than once causes collisions....

anyway - can we get a "well done Jenson Button ?"

he outclassed Hamilton this time round and is 2nd in the Championship

Formula 1 2011

Salford, did Button do well? Please let us know ASAP. Thanks!

Formula 1 2011

So Hamilton is innocent and Button is ignored

It's hilarious, I'm still laughing lol lol lol

Formula 1 2011

Adrian Newey has admitted the Red Bull's may not use KERS. The DRS + KERS on the longest straight in F1 could mean someone other than Vettel will lead a race outside the pit-stop phase on Sunday.

Formula 1 2011

How did Button get on in your opinion Salford?

Formula 1 2011

These new quick wearing tyres could play into Button's hands. Good luck to the ledge.. hope he does well. :sorted:

One thing that pisses me off about F1 is the amount of times results are changed after the event. So far both races have had changes to the final standings. It does the sport no favours IMO. Wasn't the damage to Hamilton's and Alonso's car punishment enough for their coming together? Why did the stewards see fit to whack a retrospective 20 second penalty on the pair? It's hardly going to encourage proper racing. Post-race penalties should be used sparingly.

Agree completely, or apply them to the next race. Five place grid drop for both would have been fairer. Think they shouldn't have done anything.

Brundle has just tweeted: "Development in Shanghai incredible. Track built 2004 in a swamp 20 miles from city. Soon it will be an urban circuit surrounded by buildings" Shows how quickly China is expanding. 20 miles expansion in seven years.

Never mind about that - what is your assessment on Button's performance in the last race ?

Formula 1 2011

practising for a career in politics it seems

Formula 1 2011

Vettel fastest in both practice sessions. Looking potentially ominious for the race. Funniest moment was seeing Liuzzi in the Hispania pull away from Alonso in the Ferrari using the DRS lol Does show the difference DRS makes.

How did Button do ?

Formula 1 2011

Looks dry for the race. Was hoping for a classic. Be awesome to get a winner from outside the big three. Petrov, Heidfeld, Rosberg, Kobayashi, Barrichello or even Schumacher winning would be good to see.

anyone but Button eh

I think Salford puts Button is his "big three"....

Formula 1 2011

I want an upset/feel-good story. I want a race where we get another constructor (aside from Red Bull, McLaren or Ferrari) winning. They're the equivalent to Man Utd, Arsenal, and Chelsea. Mercedes and Renault are Everton and the like. Sauber are the lower Prem teams (e.g) Sunderland. Williams are like Blackpool. Force India and Toro Rosso are the top CCC clubs (second down). Lotus and Virgin are the Exeters of this world and I would like to see them scoring a point or two this season. Hispania are like Gillingham - I'd like to see McLaren buy them and run them as a young driver team (a la Toro Rosso).

The only driver driving for the top three constructors which would be a good story is Massa. He deserved to win in Germany last year a year on from his major accident.

So what you are bascially saying is Button is Van Persie, to Hamilton's Fabregas...:sorted:

Formula 1 2011

Lets hope they don't make the grid then;)

Normally I like the small teams but Hispania have been a bit of a joke since they started in 2010. Chandhok driving an F1 car for the first time in qualifying. Being six seconds a lap slower. when they do. Virgin aren't much better but they at least have one remotely talented driver and a rookie. Hispania have one not very good driver and a pay driver. I'd rather see Minardi back. They were great for the sport and I always wanted them to do well. They resisted bringing pay drivers instead opting for young talent. Two drivers in the top three teams started at Minardi, for example.

My favourite race was Europe 1999:

1st Johnny Herbert (Stewart)
2nd Jarno Trulli (Prost)
3rd Rubens Barrichello (Stewart)
4th Ralf Schumacher (Williams)
5th Mika Hakkinen (McLaren)
6th Marc Gene (Minardi)

That's the type of race I want.

i think SB sees Button as more like Denilson or Bendtner :(

Formula 1 2011

Vettel is fast becoming like another German. Pole again comfortably. Fastest in all practice sessions, pole position. In a class of his own this weekend.

Formula 1 2011

F1 is becoming sh*t again. :(

Get all the drivers in the same car/engine and let's have a race. This is becoming a snooze fest. :zzzzz:

I just hope Button can produce something to stop the rot.

Nico Rosberg in 4th, out qualifying his fellow german team mate Michael Somethingorother. Brit Paul De Resta qualifying 8th, his team mate in 11th.

Webber v Vettel will be interesting, at some point team orders will be called in. Vettel has taken the first two races by the scruff of the neck, Webber hasn't and I don't think he will take kindly to acting as a No2. The team battle between Hamilton and Button will be good, Hamilton still thinks he is in a go kart, which is bad for tyres and Button has a very smooth driving style which is better for tyres.

Hopefully we will see Massa getting back to his best and beating the Whinging Alonso but I think his confidence isn't quite there.

We're only two races in, this has the makings of a very good season.

I would guess the difference between Vettel and the other cars around him is that Vettel's car is being given priority by the Red Bull team. Neither McLarens appear to be getting special treatment.

Formula 1 2011

Cracking race. Hamilton and Webber were absolutely superb. Been waiting to see overtaking for the lead and Hamilton delivered. Great drives.

Formula 1 2011

It was one of the best dry races I've seen for a long time. If that was the last race going for the title it would have been absolutely insane.

Next three GPs (2010 winner)

Turkey 8th May (Hamilton)
Spain 22nd May (Webber)
Monaco 29th May (Webber)

Vettel still can retired and as long as Hamilton doesn't win he will remain in the lead of the Drivers Championship.

Well done to Team Lotus. Kovalainen finished ahead of Perez (due to drive through) and pay-driver Maldonado (on raw speed). Kovalainen beat Petrov in Canada last year (who had two added pit-stops due to a jump start penalty and the need to replace a front wing). The first time Team Lotus have beaten an established team on raw speed.
