Further Academy Development

“As we continue the process of developing our Academy structure, we will be opening a Development Centre for players between the ages of 9 and 16 in March 2023.

Our Development Centre will transition into an Academy from Spring 2024 and is the foundations for an environment that will provide young players the opportunity to develop holistically, excel in elite football, and benefit from a range of educational opportunities.”

Assume this is different to the community trust kids coaching which currently exists?

Further Academy Development

I wonder if we might now ditch the B Team in favour of an academy given how difficult it is to recruit from abroad.

I was wondering that too. I doubt they would run two programmes in parallel so perhaps the community trust kids coaching is transitioning in to this come next term, but that's just a guess

Further Academy Development

The application asks how far you live from Uxbridge High School which may suggest it is separate to the community Trust coaching, but not clear.

An academy has to provide, in addition to professional coaching, education, depending on the category – category 1 requires full time education from U-15 level. It seems the previous relationship with Uxbridge High School is being restarted.

The community trust has very different objectives and is a community asset based around football.

Interesting this, would indicate we're going beyond our original intention of just a Cat 4 academy?

Academies have rules given to them by the PL, no? Our B Team operates by our own rules. Plus I suspect that there needs to be something between the end of an academy and the 1st Team? So having a B Team means that we can do as we wish to develop players around the end of the players' academy life.

The Development centre run by the CST has 3 tiers. Can’t remember the entry tier, second is advanced and top tier is performance. Those in performance a (likely fairly small) % will have a chance of getting into the academy. But there will be a lot of competition from other kids who are recent or current academy players which I’d imagine will make up the majority.

Intention is cat 1. Will start at cat 3 i believe.

Further Academy Development

Even though the article states from 9 years old, it appears that the trial form only starts at 12 years old ?‍♂️?‍♂️

Yes, it's a five year ramp up

Hobbsy, would you know who to contact regarding a 9 year old getting a trial? The online form only starts at school year 7 (11-12 year olds).

Sorry no idea, you could start with [email protected] and see if they can put you in touch with the correct person.

There's still no option on the form for age groups below under 12s (year 7).

I've emailed the Brentford enquiries email but haven't heard anything, guess they get tonnes of email traffic.

Received an email (my son goes to the Gunnersbury Park training) saying that any boy who goes to the Community Trust training won't be accepted to the trial but rather will be assessed by the coaches at the Community Trust training first. Seems fair enough.

Yeah a couple of my boys mates go to the community trust and have been told the same.

Thank you for tagging me.
I've applied so lets see.

A bit self indulgent but some of his Sunday games get filmed, so he asked me to make him a show reel...
There is even an appearance from this dodgy poster, limping around as referee ??

I enjoyed that. The saves at 1:08 and 1:45 were very good.

Good luck to him.

Some outlandish saves there! If he gets a trial and performs like that, it would seem a formality.

No evidence of decent distribution, just a shot-stopper.
And what's his heading from 6 yards like? Though maybe they don't do heading at that age?

Distribution - always looks for the quick short option to the defenders or holding midfielder. Sometimes makes the wrong choice but that is down to learning. Going long is a last resort

Heading - would head a brick...takes after his old man...it was the only talent I had as an outfield player.

However lots of good keepers at his age group, so will be difficult for him, but that's what it's all about...
He loves Brentford and goalkeeping, so why not try it
He an under 9 so loads of room for improvement

Brave for his age.

I wouldn’t bother mate, one of the worst strikers I’ve ever seen!

Having scouted for the club for a few years and watched numerous games with amateur and professional clubs youngsters this lad is probably the best young keeper I’ve seen. Has he been coached ?? Amazing ability, especially his awareness of situations, it’s way above his years. I think the only question the club will ask is, how tall are his parents.

I was a goalkeeper who, prior to having my leg completely reconstructed, was 6ft2ins, I've lost an inch in height though as a result.
I played a bit of semi pro in my late teens and early 20s as a keeper, so maybe it's in the genes. Lol
His mum is 5ft8ins so tall for a woman.

The only thing that holds him back is he has ASD, his main trait from it he has to work on is, he can be unbelievably shy when talking and integrating with people he doesn't know at first.

For a youngster that was some performance - some great saves and certainly not frightened by diving at the players feet.

Hopefully he’ll get over that as he gets older and gains confidence. It’s obvious that’s he’s very, very good and you’ve obviously helped him. I’m sure he’ll get snapped by the club if he’s offered a trial. I’d be amazed if he isn’t. If he needs to toughen up on the pitch I’m sure Sonofabee can help him out, having played with him many, many years ago he’d go a long way to get a better teacher. I wish him well. ???

BHS Jr had his final trial day yesterday evening.
Last week nerves got the better of him but according to his mum, last night he played his own game and showed what he is capable.

Fingers crossed he gets asked back but we're proud of him whatever happens and it is an experience that he can always remember ??

Just had an email from the club, my boy has made it through to the final trial day next week.

Unbelievably proud of him, he's going to be a happy little fella when he gets to news in the morning. ?

Definitely brightened up what has been a difficult week. I just hope he gets through so I can have the chance to see him down there...

Thank you to all of you who kept an eye out and enquired about the original trials dates. ?

Will do,

The thing that has impressed me the most is Tuesday was his last date there, he managed to perform even though I was undergoing my operation at that time still, so he had no clue how I was doing or if I was ok...

So, today is a good day...

I'm being discharged from Hospital and my little GK has passed his trial at the new Academy/Development Centre.

I cannot wait to tell him when he gets home from School.
Whatever happens from here I think his footballing journey may have just hit its biggest height so far.

Again thank you all for your kind messages, which he has read and he is thankful for all those rooting for him

Proud dad moment indeed ?

Yep amen to that Bro.

Exactly the same path my lad trod. Got through his trials and seeing him play in the Bees colours against the likes of Reading, Luton @ U16 level were right up their with Winning the Play-off final and beating Arsenal in our first Premier League fixture.

The perfect tonic following your recent 'injury' woes ?
