Can I ask what's the headline?
It was something like "We may never know why Gary did it"
Can I ask what's the headline?
I only saw it in the petrol station tonight, headline 'last picture (photo) and had a picture of him with a guy with his arms round his shoulder, I may be reading too much into the scum press but don't think so
I can't help thinking that whatever it was, it's a tragedy that he couldn't stay around and front it, nobody knows anyone else's breaking limit and we probably don't even know our own. All I do know is that I haven't heard or ever read a bad word about GS and that he has a wife and two young children who have lost a very valuable family member, 3 people who would have forgiven whatever it was that sent him over the edge.
As a parent, I remember the day I became a father, I toned down everything I did, I had this insane feeling of needing to make sure I stay alive and not be a pratt anymore, I had this feeling that surviving until they were teenagers was massive. We're there know and I'm not ready to give up just yet, they might not realise it but those kids need of ours still need us.
Joey Barton has been panned on Twitter for saying that suicide is the ultimate selfish act. A good friend of mine had to go through the suicide of someone close to her and I saw the devastation it caused - why did he do it but more importantly, a massive amount of confusion and guilt was left behind because she will never know whether it was because of her and whether she could have done more to stop him doing it.
Interestingly enough, at the inquest of his death two things were said - keep off anti-depressants because they can be dangerous sh*t but also that the coroner believed just as hanworth says that he didn't intend to kill himself - he wanted to be found but it went wrong. A cry for help.

To be fair, that's not how I read it....
Speaking as the son of a father who did take his own life when I was young I have grown up with the legacy of confusion and guilt and never knowing why. Think Barton's comments are insensitive in their timing to say the least. To the world I've been told my father was an outgoing extrovert, always the first at the bar, always a smile and a handshake and a friendly word yet beneath it was the black cloud of depressive illness. For all we know Gary Speed may have also suffered from something similar and therefore Barton's comments are crass to say the least. It's his opinion and he's entitled to it but he well knows by tweeting in the public domain at the current time it is going to cause controversy (something he's no stranger too).
Gary Speed's immediate family and close friends should be allowed now to get on with their grieving though I think that their is little chance of this in the media hyped and mawkish society in which we live.
Suicide is a mix of the most tragic, most selfish, most terrible (and I want to believe preventable) acts out there
Barton should try keeping quiet once in a while, theres no need to air such comments the day he died.
As for the marks of respect, i think its a sign of how football remembers their own and i would be fine if we do it sat but in the circumstances i believe silence is more appropriate
I agree with a minutes silence, but if the Wrexhams fans burst into applause and a chant of his name then they too must be respected and then its up to us wether to join in or not.
I wonder why people couldn't complete a minute's silence and then applaud if a minute's silence is asked for?
I'm getting old I think - I think it's disrespectful to start clapping halfway through a minute's silence, and would find it annoying if I was trying to observe it.
Maybe just me but I think all this clapping business means very little. I think it has come in because a crowd cannot be trusted to observe a minutes silence.
Getting a crowd of thousands of football fans to stay silent for a minute in reflective remembrance is a very powerful, emotive and far more respectful action.

Garry Speed seems to have been a thoroughly decent person and a great professional but I think he has become a football icon in death rather than life.

Fair play Man U fans tonight chanting his name during the minutes applause
Now would the Leeds fans do the same if the situation was reversed ?
leave it out,Man u fans are as bad when it comes to hillsborough chants etc
united should have just kept it silent as a mutual respect for a player who had a great premiership career against them
Anyone see Bryn on Sky Sports News on Mon evening? Gary was a good friend of his and he spoke of texting each other on the sat, then Bryn texted him on sunday saying I hear there's a sick rumour going round, please contact me. Then broke down in tears live on snn. Terrible stuff.
Sorry my post wasn't meant to steer this thread to such things.
Have you ever been to see Utd play Liverpool? whos that lying on the runway, whos that lying in the snow, its matt busby and the boys, making all the fuking noise, cos they cant get the aeroplane to go,......has been sung for years at leeds man city liverpool west ham i could go on.Feel ashamed ive even posted that song.
I don't think there was any need to repeat it here.
Most of us know the words anyway.
Also... Some posts, mainly about family stuff, over the past few days, have built my respect of certain posters especially Horshambees, northamptonbee and sonofabee. Cheers fellas.
Don't get me wrong it's very sad what he's done mainly for his children.
But I'm reserving all my thoughts until it comes out why.
Just depression then fair enough, anything more sinister and won't all those 2 minutes round of applause look a bit silly

surely he wouldnt take his own life for a gambling debt? I wonder if the truth will ever come out.
Not sure what you mean here Nada?
For instance we can be pretty confident that Speed was not a murderer. I would be very surprised in fact stunned if there were any suggestion of impropriety towards children. Those two areas I would call sinister.
If he were a marital cheat its hardly newsworthy these days let alone sinister.
If he even suffered from depression at all I will be surprised.
So that leaves addiction and as we know he was not a heavy drinker that would leave gambling and given his friendship with Shearer and talk of card schools etc years ago then my money would be on that.(No pun intended)
Although its perhaps wrongf to speculate maybe there was a silly wager that he perhaps was ashamed of admitting too or an outstanding debt with a bookmaker being called in and the thought that his good work for Wales and reputaion would be harmed by such a revelation.
Either way hardly sinister.
For me Gary Speed was an excellent footballer and Manager and appeared to be a Proud Family Man to the outside world and whatever sparked him to take his own life it was a mistake and is therefore sad in every way.
So imo it is very much the right thing to do to offer by way of silence our condolences to his young sons and wife and parents or by applause our appreciation as Football fans of his achievements as a player and for a very short time a Manager and I for one cant see any reason why all Brentford supporters should not feel exactly the same come 2.55pm tomorrow afternoon when our opportunity to pay our respects arises.
RIP Gary and God Bless
In addiction circles gambling has the second highest suicide rate, behind sex addiction. Don't think anyone says he has ever been a gambler though.surely he wouldnt take his own life for a gambling debt? I wonder if the truth will ever come out.

shame all the Paedophiles don't know this

Whatever it's put down to, anyone who wants to hang themselves and leave behind a loving family is certainly in a depressive state of thinking....
Such a tragedy that he couldn't talk about whatever it was that led him to take his life
I cant remember the last time i posted on the GPG but (and apologies if its p[osted elsewhere) are we doing the whole ScarvesforSpeedo thing thats doing the rounds on |Twitter....
