Apparantly his relationship had its ups and downs but they were working on it ?

Text his wife a few days before stating he was going to kill himself ?

Found hanging by his wife and probably didn't want to kill himself ?

sounds like suicide to me !

perhaps you should give the coroner a bell and let him know

Ok, having read a bit more of what has been reported I now understand why the coroner came to that decision.
It is possible that Speed set up a scene to scare his wife after they'd had a row and she drove off. She then came back but stayed the night in the car. Speed subsequently could have fallen asleep waiting for his wife to come in and see him without ever meaning to go through with it. ****ed up but possible. Even with him mentioning suicide days earlier, I can understand there is not sufficient evidence that he meant to go through with it. Extremely sad.

Reads to me as it was probably suicide, but they cannot say for certain. Either way, it has become clear he was very unhappy at the time.

A friend of mine had someone close to her hang himself - the coroner ruled that the type of knot used was designed to be slipped easily and surmised that he hoped to be found but sadly, it went wrong. It sounds bizarre I know.

Poor family. Imagine not having closure on something like that. Person after person stands up at the inquest and says he seemed like there was nothing wrong with him.

What it does show is how pointless it is to speculate about what's going on in people's personal lives. And, as some have said, how fragile everything really ****ing is. :(

The reality is that without leaving any sort of note/letter, the family will never really know why he chose this course or have closure. Very sad for those left behind, especially the children.

To be in the state of mind where you would scare the living sh*t out your wife by even threatening suicide says to me that he got the outcome he wanted. We will never know for sure though and terribly sad no matter what.

The verdict is in and whilst it does raise questions I really believe that idle gossip and speculation should now stop. The Police were satisfied that no third parties were involved. Those love one's he left behind will always have unanswered questions even if Gary Speed had left a note explaining his actions. They should be left in peace to come to terms with their loss and the public should remember the footballer and his achievements, not his tragic end. I know this won't happen in todays media driven, mawkish society where privacy of the individual or family means nothing but at the very least I hope the furore begins to die down.

terribly terribly sad. sounds like a moment of weakness rather than a highly-motivated decision to finish everything. huge sympathy for the family.

Maybe they did but probably had more to do with the current Leveson Inquiry than any sudden bout of conscience and deceny on the part of the tabloid media.

I think one of the theories put forward was that it was accidental. The theory was something like he sat on the stairs with the "noose" around his neck and possibly due to inebriation fell asleep and strangled himself.

That is quite shocking. You do wonder what the FA and PFA knew about all this, the Clubs and chairmen themselves too. They should al be ashamed.
