My Villa mate sent me this - basically saying that because they scored in the next phase then VAR shouldn’t be considered. Is he “technically” correct?

Funny isn't it, not one Villa fan is arguing that the ball was in, but they all seem to be arguing the goal should stand anyway. Make it make sense

You forgot KLP. It's the strongest squad we've ever had without question. I think we could have 30 internationals and Magic would still be after a couple of creative midfielders. We don't need anyone else. Simples!

The thing with squad depth after this cull is everyone who's left we know is good enough (with the exception of Furo who just got here), and many of them are good enough in multiple positions. So in the event of an injury crisis we know we'll be relying on good players instead of making do with players who aren't at the level. There's gonna be no equivalent to when we had to go for long periods relying on the ghoddosses and roerslevs and onyekas of this world (appreciated as their contributions are) as before, because we have multiple players of starting quality in every position who can be moved around safely in the knowledge that their position will be filled by someone of near equal quality.

For example, let's say we have an injury crisis at Right back, Hickey and Kayode both out. Instead of relying on a Roerslev or a ghoddos or canos like we might have done in our first few seasons, maybe now we move Ajer to right back. We don't have to worry about this, because he used to start for us there and we know SVDB is more than capable of filling his spot. Now let's say we need to substitute Ajer. Ok, Sepp moves to RB and Pinnock, who also used to start for us, comes in. Maybe he's lost a yard of pace but he's a top pro and can definitely be trusted to see out a game. But maybe we want to play too high a line for Pinnock to be a safe option, so maybe Janelt moves to LCB, which we know he's capable of, and Hendo moves into Janelt's spot. But oh no! Now Yarmo needs to come off too! Not a problem, Jensen joins Hendo in the double pivot. If Jensen was playing RM, replace with Dango. If Jensen was playing AM, replace with Damsgaard. If Damsgaard had started on the left cos schades banned, replace with KLP. If Damsgaards had another bloody baby, congrats Romelle here's your chance at the 10. You almost can't go wrong because every man on the pitch will be someone we know we can depend on no matter how you slice it.

It also keeps the many top players we do have happy because we're almost forced to play them all for as many minutes as possible, and it keeps the kids who aren't quite good enough yet developing; and what a brilliant bunch of moves we've got them! One in each of the old firm, 2 in the championship, one in the 2. Bundesliga, we've got as yet un-promoted b teamers playing in leagues 1 and 2, one of them even plays in the Belgian first division and starts for Nigeria!

If it were up to me would we maybe have a bit of an upgrade on Pinnock and nelson, and another athletic ball winning 6/8 to deputise for Yarmo? Sure, why not, if we've got the budget. But the people who know best clearly didn't feel it was all that necessary, at least not enough to make any deals we wouldn't have made anyway. And I just can't fathom bed-wetting about it when we're 7th and have the most premier league quality players in a squad we've ever had.

And you never know, maybe this Luka bentt, or some other kid in the b team or academy, is the absolute b***ocks and we'll only ever learn this because there's enough daylight poking through the canopy for them to grow now.

Also...I keep thinking that KLP reminds me of Milner in a way. Well, he came on and played as a central player against Villa, so why not do the same in other games? I reckon he'd be a very good central midfielder, too. He's the new Ghoddos, except better, much as I liked Saman.

Really worried with the squad depth with all these players leaving. Yes it's right some of them needed to go, but the lack of incomings have left us a bit short squad wise. We are still fighting on two front and hope we give it a real go in the cup.

But none of our departures have been ones we haven’t expected and wanted?

Paris wasn’t getting into the first team. Benji too early. Really only Frank. And whilst he may have appeared in a smattering of cameos, same again, wasn’t getting in. So overall very positive

I know this is the wrong thread for it, but with Kev out for 3, wouldn’t be against having Dango and Igor up top and KLP playing behind them, sort of that free role like Mikkel
