Probably not worth opening up his own thread ("Very Weak Rumour"?), but the Scottish Herald is reporting that:

Rangers goalkeeper Rydnn McGuire is attracting interest from several Premier League clubs.

He has been an impressive performer for the under-19 side managed by Liam Ross and has just 18 months left on his current contract at Ibrox.
He has caught the attention of top-flight clubs, with Arsenal and Everton showing interest as far back as May, as per the Rangers Review.
At that time, a bid worth more than £1 million from Everton was rejected.
However, now entering the final 18 months of his deal, McGuire is back on the radar of clubs south of the border.

Everton, long-term admirers, remain interested but face tough competition from Brighton and Hove Albion, Brentford, and Bournemouth.

Based on the fact we already have five goalkeepers, I think very weak rumour would still be putting it too strongly.

I see Taylor Harwood-Bellis is being linked to a couple of Prem teams. His birthday today, 24. Has the experience to be a ready-made squad replacement for Pinnock. Even played one game for England and scored. I've been impressed the handful of times I've seen him play. I know we have lots of promising young CBs but I doubt any are first-team ready ATM.

Neither of them are "out of contract" right now. Both have contracts coming to an end in the summer so if it's "free" as the tweet claims, they'd be referring to pre-contract agreements with moves in the summer.

Martel was the Germany U21 captain in last summer's Euros. Looked a tidy player.

That said, I think both of these tweets are b***ocks. Nice try though, not including Bournemouth in the second one to try and throw us off the scent.

How does it work with players in the last 6 months of their contract? Would we have been free to approach them for a pre contract agreement to join next summer throughout the January transfer window? If so I can believe we'd be interested, but I'd assume the player would have no reason not to spend the full 6 months exploring their options rather than rushing to sign right away?

Yep. For foreign-based players only, though. We can't sign up England-based players until their contract is within...1 month? of expiring.

Given we left Schengen when we left the EU, I don't understand how we can sign young players from Europe. Like the new boy from Bruges

We ( adults) cannot now live in Schengen countries. Holiday visas now limited to 90 days in 180 days.

How are footballers allowed to come and go?

Do the clubs buy Golden Visas?

Explanation appreciated 👍 Thanks

They just get a visa . Elite sports People have their own special category so I doubt it's hard for a PL team to get one for Furo for example but might be harder for Bromley to sign someone from Bruges 🤷‍♂️

Straying into politics, but, Schengen (which I agree we weren’t part of) is not the same as freedom of movement.

Pre Brexit an EU passport holder did not need a visa to relocate for work within the UK (and vice versa), whereas now they do. However if the person earns enough (and pays a chunky fee) then getting a 3/5 year skilled person visa isn’t too tricky.

I still think we need another forward. Possibly in the summer, especially if/when Nelson goes back. All of our forwards seem to prefer playing off the last defender, and that works really well, but I don’t think any of them are particularly comfortable receiving the ball at their feet and driving at a defender. They have their moments, but overall I don’t think Dango or Schade look especially dangerous when it comes to taking players on one-v-one.

I suspect that's a conscious decision in terms of our recruitment. I'm sure we'd like players who can do everything but we're probably prioritising other characteristics.

Rather another midfielder, but wouldn't be to disapointed if Nelson went back and someone came in.

He looks good and can play attacking midfield or across the front three it seems

If Nelson is on a season long deal, I don't believe we can just terminate without Arsenal agreeing.

There tends to be a January break clause in season long loans, but it's by no means mandatory to have one.

Not been a successful loan so far but I'd be surprised if either we sent him back or Arsenal recalled him, we need the extra cover and he's probably not good enough or available enough for their title aspirations.

We are definitely not signing a goalkeeper.

As you know I don't get updates every hour of the day, but that was certainly the case at the time.
