Just seen that the Indian women have just scored 525-4 on the first day of their test match v the Saffers, off 98 overs. That may well not be a record but it's pretty darned good! The openers scored 205 and 149.

I often think of this - what happened to Graham Thorpe and how is he now? It's over 2 years since it was announced he had a sudden and serious illness and I've not heard a single word since. I've even searched online and there is literally nothing to be found after that press release which in this day and age, is highly unusual. Was a seriously good batsman but with a complicated off the field life iirc.

James Anderson plays for the last time tomorrow, with his illustrious career finally coming to an end at the age 41, Graeme Swann recalled an incident involving "Mr Cricket" Mike Hussey and Jimmy Anderson. The Australian batter was on the receiving end of an Anderson barrage in the 2010-11 Ashes test series.

Hussey, a man who never engaged with sledging or banter on the field, was unstoppable but Anderson chipped away at the ice-cool veneer.

“He kept saying to Mike Hussey, ‘All right, Dave’,” Graeme Swann remembers. “If Hussey drove him for four, Jimmy said, ‘Shot, Dave’ or, ‘Well left, Dave’. He did it for three Tests. Out of nowhere Hussey went, ‘For f---’s sake, Jimmy, I’m Mike Hussey, not Dave, he’s my brother’. Jimmy, straight-faced, said, ‘Oh sorry, Dave’ and walked off. It was like Trigger from Only Fools and Horses. It was majestic.”

Batters is used because batsmen suggests men only. Batswoman/batswomen sounds a bit too long.
