When was the last time a touring test nation didn't get a test match at Lords. Surprised by this for the Zimbabwe test.

Surprised that the women haven't got a test match against India too?

So it turns out there is a Womens Test at Lords. Its just not on the ECB listings?

Well that's just fine with me because I only have real interest in 4 and 5 day cricket. Although I live in Cheltenham I have arranged to watch all 4 days of the Middlesex v. Gloucestershire match at Lord's in September. Hope the weather stays fine and we get the result we need!
I agree proper tests are best, but one day matches are also nice.

Thomas Rew (younger brother of James Rew) looks a name to keep an eye on. Only 16 and he's been smashing it for Somerset U18s, just been promoted to their Men's 2nd XI and immediately scored a hundred for them as well. I've seen a few clips of him and he looks a huge talent.

Probably only a minor shock with how bad Pakistani cricket has become but Bangladesh about to win that first test by a huge margin
Pakistan are rubbish right now in all formats. Test match team utter rubbish, the ODI World Cup last year they were as bad as England (and that was some feat) and the recent T20 just mind boggling appalling. I grew up watching Wasim, Waqar, Imran. Saqlain, Mushy and they have had some great batsmen players since but the current crop of players are just pathetic. Not sure what the main issue so would welcome some insight from a proper cricketing fan like you @Jam Jar as cricket needs a competing Pakistan side. They do really need to stop producing pitches that are flatter than my ironing board for home tests. Where are the quality spinners?

I fully concur with your analysis @Indian Bee they are indeed absolute garbage in all formats at present. Even T20 where they have always been competitive that bubble burst with the shambolic display in the USA in the recent tournament. The usual issues of player cliques and a non serious attitude amongst the senior players (looking at Shaheen Shah Afridi here) haven't helped but in all honesty player discord is part and parcel of Pakistani cricket and this has been the case even during their successful spells.

I actually feel its a lack of talent within the whole country and nepotism (with Shan Masood's test selection and captaincy - the guy clearly cannot merit a place in the test side with the bat - he is no Brearly either despite being well spoken and educated )

The superstars aren't coming through - especially with the ball - which has always been Pakistan's stronger asset. Shaheen is probably the best bowler but his workload has been mismanaged and I think he is going through the motions and has become one dimensional - a typical example of a player who has made it and who is now coasting - this rotten attitude permeats the team.

And Babar Azam who can't score a run in any format recently is the last batting superstar who has probably peaked.

There just isn't the talent coming through - and no amount of expensive puppet coaches like Jason Gillespie / Gary Kirsten can fix that. The players are on a big jolly across the world and cricket is like a hobby. I don't see it getting better and likely Pakistan will be in tier 3 with Ireland/Netherlands.

This is actually sad to read. The young stars as you said as simply not coming through. The fitness levels of the team is awful and read reports of a bust up between Shaheen and Masood post that last test match.

ICC should stop India playing Pakistan is any ICC tournaments as given - yes it’s a massive money maker but it’s only ever a one sided result.

cricket teams often go in cycles.

deep breaths but hopefully West Indies and Sri Lanka are on the (slow) road to recovery. Both sides now have several exciting prospects

On a county level it isn't all Surrey this summer with Somerset well in the mix and Sussex leading the second division after a decade in the doldrums.

Keep the faith!

Looks like Bangladesh are going to stroll it. Really England should not be touring Pakistan its men against girls. Pakistan cricket is pretty much dead alongside hockey and squash.

However we do have a handy Javelin thrower.
They only need 33 runs to win the series with 7 wickets left. Remarkable considering they were 26-6 in their first innings.

Shocking from Pakistan really - yes they aren't great but even so got to be better?

Can’t comment on the match as didn’t see any of it but credit must surely be given to Bangladesh despite what rubbish Pakistan are playing at the moment. Bangladesh with that series win move ahead of England in the WTC table ?.

England can send their U23 side to Pakistan and they would win comfortably. No need to play Wood and the first string bowling attack. Save their legs for the ashes

Near packed out crowd for the final T20 Blast q/f game tonight as was the case in the other q/f games I saw ? The T20 blast needs some minor refining and The Hundred scrapped. One should never have approx. 7 week gap between the end of the blast to the quarter-finals. The T20 blast has historically shown it can pull in the crowds.

Just flicked over the TV channels - proper game this and great away support.

One off Test between Afghanistan and New Zealand at Greater Noida has been abandoned without a ball being bowled, only the eighth instance in Test history, and the first since 1998.

By all accounts a very likeable person within the England dressing room. Always a debate whether he was underrated and overrated. Felt for white ball he always had a clear purpose of his role whereas for tests less so. I am probably in the school of thinking he was overrated. Let's not forget he was dropped for the final stages of the 2019 ODI WC. Not had a chance to look at the stats but remember him getting 200 test wickets and that is nothing to be sniffed at. Think his batting averages for all three formats was under 30 but happy to be corrected.

A very average finals day yesterday.

That's what happens when none of the England players are available. I thought the pitch at Edgbaston wasn't great either.
Pope and Smith played for Surrey.
