All flooding back now, dont remember the OOB on the 1st as the right hand was just trees and a fence line from what i remember. But the 17th 18th rings a bell.

Still very forgiving IMO. With plenty of shots back across. I do remember a par 3 that had the public footpath right behind................. Foreeeeee

Member at Temple, Henley/Maidenhead way. Decent track, tricky test as very up and down.

Played a charity day at Coombe Hill two weeks ago, ouch, the greens were like putting on concrete, lightning quick. Beautiful course but still having nightmares about my 3 and 4 putting....

Birds Hill, just the other side of Maidenhead is a good beginners track. Generally quite flat track and open.

I joined the Temple Artisans last year. I started playing 3 years ago and played Bird Hills and Billingbear before joining Castle Royle. I went on the waiting list for Temple as I have good friends there and a space came up so I swapped. I agree with BH's, so flat, wide and forgiving whereas Temple is tough, every shot is above or below your feet and the pin positions can be bonkers.

My handicap is 25, I am struggling to consistently break through 100, every part of my game has improved but it isn't coming down like I was hoping.

I was slicing my Tee 80% of the time which is as killer at Temple as you know, that bloody weed is like a hungry animal that needs constant feeding. This has suddenly clicked (after many, many lessons and hundreds of lost balls) and I am getting in and around the green in 2 on most of the 4's, but my chipping is the killer. 3-4 times I can dink it in from 20-30 yards and it rolls past the pin and leaves me needing to chip in from the other side. A decent par chance becomes 2 over in the blink of an eye, so frustrating. So the next hole I decide to chip with less power and it only goes half way or most annoying falls just short of the green and breaks, 2, 12, 15 are a killer for this as it rolls into the bunker just short.

I am accurate on the greens, but I miss by a CM a lot and it rolls on for a 2 putt back, its infuriating. I took some lessons and I have improved a lot, but the greens can be so randomly fast, I try to it hit softer but wind up short and needing another 2 putts to finish, such a waste of shots.

The position of the pins are also hard, for example 10 is a long 3 par and they always put the flag at the front of the green in the bottom of the huge bomb crater, you need a perfect drive to the back of the green which is blind from the tee. If you fall short of the green you only need to tickle the second shot down the big hill and it will accelerate past the hole and up the other side needing a 30 foot down hill putt through the thick grass to par it. 12 is also tough, putting the pin right at the top of the slope means 5 perfect shots so how the rating is so low I don't know.

Love it, played last sat, 9 hole old course and then the three par afterwards. So beautiful, lovely little clubhouse but why don't they do some food, they are missing a huge trick there. A bacon sandwich for breakfast and maybe a baguette and chips for lunch etc. Only doing warmed up pizza twists or sausage rolls from Iceland. We always wind up going to a pub or garden centre afterwards for lunch.

Have you tried watching some of dan grieve on youtube? He does lots of short game content. I struggle with short game aswell and trying to follow his methods has helped a little, plenty of practice still needed though

I have watched so many videos on it I have nearly used up the internet. You are right, it is just practice, every shot is a different length, slope or angle and until I have memorised them all.

I'm off 24 so similar handicap.

Temple great little course, I learnt to play golf on it and took the view that if I could get round Temple then I could pretty much play any course.

Like you say, the slopes are brutal, everything up or downhill, or above/below your feet.

The 10th has got to be unique in golf, never seen a hole like it anywhere else!!

And its got enough variety to keep it interesting. Plus if you're lucky enough i believe Walley Downes and a group of mates used to play there.

Wyke Green is very nice but prob not for new starters.

Used to play Brent Valley lots in the mid to late 90’s, have fond memories of the place. That clubhouse bar could get pretty lively back then- remember playing a Friday twilight game there one summer evening and loads of Irish builder types having a mass punch up.

Went back for a game for the first time in about 20 years after lockdown and the course hadn’t changed a bit. Good course for a beginner and decent value.

Some lovely courses down here, albeit some are a tad hilly!!! However the views over the Jurassic coast from some of the courses makes up for the sweat extended in getting up the hills!!!!!

Always seems to be groups of younger chaps who don't have any golf etiquette, was waiting 5/10 minutes on every tee. Some of the fairways were nice and lush and some barely had any grass atall. Think I will be dodging it from now on

I have done old Thorne’s for a weekend, and that it what it is built for, stag do’s and hen do’s in the main building. It was slooooooooow, and empty bottles of bud piled up around each tee. Just carry them to the bin at the next tee.

A lot of that happening now, brining in the young kids either foc at under 16 or dirt cheap. Nobody is teaching them the etiquette, repair pitch marks, divots and go a built faster please.

Since winter hill has sold out to the charity it has become unplayable, an utter mess and so many kids, you can’t book a tee time so you just turn up and wait. My brother is ditching it .

Played there a month ago and it was murder.
First round took 4hrs 50min and the starter on the 1st tee told us “It’s a resort course and anything under 5hrs is a result” ???
To add to the frustration it was so hard, fast and undulating it was virtually unplayable.
Don’t waste your money.

Stockley Park (former PGA course) and Airlinks (Heston) are 30 mins from Addlestone, via M25/M4, at off-peak times.

Played Airlinks yesterday. Not bad at all. Lovely views of Wembley Arch and London buildings. Greens were good, fairways a bit dried out. Twilight price of £32 (total) for 18 hole two ball at 6 pm. Thoroughly enjoyed.
