For those with Sky, the 40th anniversary of the Ryder Cup, Woosnam & Faldo vs Torrance & Lyle over 4 holes at the Belfry.

I‘m slightly older than all of them & they can hit it further than I can, but they hit bunkers & the bushes same as me.

Managed to get on foxhills long cross yesterday, lovely course, probably the best course I've played so far. Sammy Saunders posted on Instagram that he was there yesterday too but didn't see him unfortunately

Thinking of properly getting into Golf this year now I've moved into my first home. Anyone got any good advice on how to find reasonably priced golf lessons, how to figure out who's good and who isn't, good driving ranges near me etc etc. I'm left-handed and have my own set of clubs so that's sorted, but any advice on how to properly get started would be good.

Played Longcross last week and playing it again on Monday. In great nick considering the weather we've had, irrigated fairways make a big difference!

It was a shock to the system actually having grass on the fairways and sand in the bunkers

Don't know where you live mate but my pro, Michael Whitby, at Temple GC (Near Maidenhead/Henley) helped me immensely with getting a basic swing and set up. His teaching methods are simple and straight forward, understanding as an amateur golfer you have limitations!!

I highly recommend him.

Based in Laindon/Basildon. Was he recommended to you or did you search for him? I'll no doubt have to do a bit of local research myself but thought I'd just ask in case there was any useful websites etc

If I could go back I would try not to get drawn down the youtube coaching rabbit hole, or if you do stick to one. Danny maude is quite good, and simple. I know it's easy because you get to sit on your arse and listen to a load of "coaching" but it ends up doing more harm than good

Enjoy playing, but it’s so time consuming and so don’t get out much at all these days. Also there are so many golf bores, who just bang on about their rounds and what was great and bad in so much detail. Just enjoy a pint & pie after a round snd talk about something I haven’t seen for last 18 holes.

He's the pro at my club but a number of other members/friends have used him and all speak very highly. I appreciate a bit of a trek round for you though.

If you’re based in Laindon, there’s a decent golf pros at Langdon Hills, Dunton & Thorndon Park.

I am a member at Temple and had a few lessons with him and he was excellent. £35 quid for 30 mins too, it was £65 for 30 mins at castle royle and £90 an hour at mygolfmatters in Wokingham which is very good, but so expensive, more then a membership at most clubs so play 20 rounds a month instead.

I blobbed every hole when I hit a bunker, 3-4 hacks at it and pick the ball up. Half an hour and Mike fixed me, I have popped out of every bunker at the first attempt ever since. He has also helped out with my drive which has always been an horrific slice, he showed me a couple of things which have helped but I need to practice it, the 5 wood has been going so well off the tee especially with the conditions this summer I literally haven't used my driver. I do need to get back on it now the weather is changing as I am losing 50-60 yards in the last week just with the rain, so it will be a few sessions down the range before i dare take it on the course again.

Hey, I’m a leftie! Where are you, btw?

Edit: just seen the answer above. Only know cricket grounds out your way, sadly. But that’s no use!

Find a decent coach to get the basics right. However remember there is no one way to swing the golf club, just look at the varied swings of the pros. Don't go down the rabbit hole of YouTube tips, they only tell you part of the story which probably no relation to your actual swing, trust me I have been there! Also do not give up when you have periods of not having a clue of what you are doing, it normally happens after a couple of good rounds when you think you have the game cracked. When it is going well it is one of the greatest feelings in the world, when going badly you will hate it. I am a member of a club with fantastic views of the Isle of Wight and Christchurch Bay so even if the golf is crap the views and the 19th hole make it a great day out.

Next time I’m at the range I’ll film a few swings of mine, sure some of you lot will have some useful tips 👌🏼

Practice your chipping and putting more than anything else!
On that point, finding a nice friendly "pitch and putt" course is a fun way to get the fundamentals - with or without lessons. Its cheap and The longest holes are generally no more than 100 yards, and there is nothing like hitting at a hole. And you play lots of holes quite quickly. I used to take our boy there when he was (say) 6-10 years old, and we could play a competitive game by simply giving him a 2 shot start every hole!

Played a couple of rounds at the Oxfordshire last week and would highly recommend. Lovely facilities and course in very good condition, then we got to sit in the bar and watch us win the Ryder Cup

Played it twice. I've always walked off feeling it was a long slog and not in a rush to go back. Always windy too, no matter what time of year.

That said, worth playing if you never have.

I played The Grove on Tuesday, immaculate condition, now that is a proper golf course.

Really? I must have got lucky then, beautiful sun on Sunday and Monday and barely any wind. Seemed pretty flat aswell compared to some tracks I usually play like hoebridge or pine ridge, so didn't feel too much of a slog.

I have seen some golf life videos of the Grove and it does look very nice, one on my list for sure

Also came across this fella at the Oxfordshire which was a first for me on a golf course

See that the Seve Ballesteros statue was stolen and broken up recently. Police have found the statue broken up and ready for sale:
