GPG: The Problem or the Solution?

Is the Griffin Park Grapevine partly responsible for the latest crisis enveloping Brentford FC?

Do the discussions on this board fan the flames of rumour and create bigger problems where previously there were few?

Are there some regular contributors who have their own agendas and will always subvert threads to regurgitate their own manifestos?

Should some of the keyboard warriors who frequent this place take a break from posting to consider their motives? (Brickie Chap might like to answer that one)

Feel free to vote.

GPG: The Problem or the Solution?

Which one of the questions relates to the poll? There are four question marks in your post and another one in the poll?

Course not. Banana or Ed aren't on the board, are they?

Possibly - but no more than a group of fans chatting in the pub would

... no.

Yes. :D But that's got nothing to do with anything.

So that 2 nos,1 yes, 1 possible, and a lol from one person - I think this poll is flawed lol

The sum of the parts is the whole. All four questions relate to the poll.

GPG: The Problem or the Solution?

Neither. GPG is a self-selected group of people who are a tiny proportion of the total amount of Bees fans. To act as though this site had great influence and could be part of any problem is daft, imho.

But the poll is one question - not four.

Despite the fact I blacklisted "Bad Beehaviour" a long time ago as someone who posts against the grain (in a bad Larry as opposed to a good Sweepy sort of way), I will at least honour this thread with an answer.

No, the GPG is not the problem in part nor in whole. I do agree that the GPG adds a little fuel at times, but it is definitely fuel added to an already burning fire. All the GPG does is generates the debate before the latest shocking turn of events unfold in the back pages of the Chronicle. So maybe we should view it from a different angle.

The GPG is not exactly the solution to our woes (as the other option describes), but it has in the past achieved the following.

1. BIAS are able to arrange and publicise meetings such as the coming Monday event at reasonably short notice.

2. Fundraising events and gigs are able to be publicised to Bees fans without charge.

3. The GPG has been used as an outlet for MA to communicate with the supporters (imagine the board of directors showing the same initiative).

4. We have somewhere to go when we stagger home drunk and wish to abuse Banana. :D

5. Protests such as ABeeC, No to Woking etc. have been initiated via this site, with this site used to rally support.

6. Pressure from supporters in this forum has helped to displace members of the Griffin Park staff who had long outstayed their welcome. Imagine Wally still in charge and the battle to survive relegation with Kiddy, Rushden and Cambridge.

With just some of the above points in mind the only people who should be voting for the option "the GPG causes problems" are Bad Beehaviour, Mr Cynical, Ron Noades, John Mac, er, erm, i'm struggling now... (...in the words of abee i'll finish this post off later!)

But I think it is the most respected discussion thread of BFC fans

Still do not think the poll has enough answers, my view is that the majority have one voice but also enjoy the voice of the people in the know

Perhaps the poll should contain a 3rd option stating the the GPG is a fans messgeboard for fans to express their opinions and therefore neither a problem nor a solution?

Are you suggesting there is a "grey" colour. I always thought there was black and white - the starter of the poll deciding which is the best by adding things like

"White: the nasty colour of snowman that do nothing for peace on earth"
"Black: the colour of Nelson Mandela, and all that is good in the world"

GPG: The Problem or the Solution?

Without the GPG, we would not have BIAS in its current form.
Without BIAS in its current form we would not have Bees United or the No To Woking campaign.
Without Bees United, we would not have John Mac on the board of BFC.
On the other hand, we would probably be playing at Woking!

So, the GPG is part of the problem and part of the solution. Or not. It's just a messageboard. It helps people get more enjoyment talking and reading about the best football club in the world. Maybe it also helps magnify some of the problems that exist at Griffin Park - but you can't uninvent the internet, can you?

GPG: The Problem or the Solution?

I have been on the GPG for getting on for 2 years now, and I feel that in the last few months it has gone seriously downhill. It used to be a somewhat anarchic but nevertheless fun way to express various non-PC views about the club. These days it seems to have deteriorated into the personal fiefdom of a certain few who think that they alone have the right to be right, and use it for every opportunity to rubbish various individuals who, while they may be not up to much in their stewardship of the club, simply cannot be that bad else their peers would have dumped them well and truly by now. And Larry Signy - poor sod - really does seem to cop it on a regular basis. Does he really deserve the abuse, just for a few articles in the programme?

But the irony is of course, that the GPG can no longer be taken seriously, and thus whereas the powers-that-be may well have used it in the past as an insight into the 'word on the street', I doubt they bother to look at it at all now and thus we have probably lost a good channel into the club's inner sanctum (no smutty remarks please!!).

Try reading your own board and if the answer is still not apparent do a search for "GW"

And when you're done with that check the numbers on the poll.

My point is made and I shall now revert to lurking. Farewell and thanks for all the ghoti.

I still don't understand which of four question in your original post you wanted answered ?

My point is made and I shall now revert to lurking. Farewell and thanks for all the ghoti.

Is the GPG also responsible (in your eyes) for:
1. Hinckley tickets only being sold during working hours
2. The Southampton Ticket Episode
3. The Planning Application being deferred
4. The Bees United option not being exercised
5. The lack of a quality goalscorer?
6. etc. etc.

On the other hand - if the GPG is at fault for many things in your eyes can it also claim the credit for such things as:
1. The recruitment of Martin Allen?
2. The extended FA Cup run?
3. The fact that Talbot has a Shirt Sponsor? as has a player every season bar one
4. The money raised for the playing budget from T Shirt sales.
5. The generation of a deeper interest and the wide dissemination of knowledge in the club to many hundreds of Bees fans.

I completely, utterly agree with this. But there's still time to attempt a 'Great Escape' of the GPG depths of insanity variety.

The GPG can only be seen as the problem by those who don't realise that at best we get only get a hundred or so people looking here everyday.

It might do but that would be one visitor per spider and we get about 2.

It also includes those arriving to visit Keeley from Bromley.

We get 550-600 members visiting per day. Of course that only includes those people that have previously registered and that are logged-in (unlike other message boards we don't require you to register to visit all our threads in a rather transparent effort to bump our statistics). As has been noted before the number of guests we get seems proportional to the news surrounding the team and the club, so there are many more Bees fans visiting per day than the number of members visiting.

GPG: The Problem or the Solution?

Do you know which bits of the site people look at? I was wondering, if the GPG is responsible for running BFC then perhaps it also influences people in other areas.

How many people now have an opinion on which is the gayest animal for example? :) I'm surprised we haven't settled immigration policy for the government either. :) Maybe we underestimate our growing power and global influence.
