Halil Dervisoglu

Linked with Besiktas, amongst others.

Shame the lad struggled to adjust. Can't see anything other than a move to Turkey.

Strange, I can see him staying. Unless we want to sell him and the price is right, otherwise why would he move? Pass up the chance of Premier League being on his C.V. which would make him more desired elsewhere later in his career.

Struggled to adjust or never wanted to be here in the first place?

Serious question. How long as he spent over here? I can't remember how soon we loaned him out. Was it half a season. I really can't remember.

I may well be wrong but seems he never settled. Talented young lad and showed his class at the tail end with Galatasary, but just have a hunch we won't be seeing him again. Total unfounded speculation, obviously ?

According to Wikipedia he joined on 03/01/20 and went out on loan 06/10/20.

He’s obviously close to his Dad and a young bloke. He had 2 months of “normality” in the UK followed by lockdown. Apart from possibly being advised badly and/or misjudging how ready he was for English football or his status on the pitch for us, it’s not a great position to settle into. He’s obviously impressed on loan in Turkey to have made their Euro squad and been in demand from big clubs there so I’m not going to judge too harshly if he sees his future elsewhere or to write off what he might do if he stayed.

Spot on. Often overlooked how tough certain aspects of being a young footballer must be. Hope it works out for him, whether that's with us or elsewhere.

To me it was pretty obvious that he didn't suit either the lone striker role or being a wide man in a 4-3-3 so he was a square peg in a round hole. Since moving to 3-5-2 I could see him as a support striker in the hole behind Toney, which makes a lot more sense. The questions to me are:
1) Has there been a falling out from him not getting a run of games already which makes the formation change irrelevant;
2) Do we need to recruit someone more "oven-ready" for the Premier League which means that the formation change is irrelevant'
3) Can we get a sufficiently high price for him that we could reinvest more profitably;
4) Is another loan somewhere in the Championship a better development pathway.

1) only he and the club know
2) maybe but as he’s in the Turkey squad had he been a player from another club we were linked with to join today for what we paid we’d probably be quite excited
3) looks like we could clear £5m+ profit and that’s Toney/Mbeumo money so yes
4) I think 0% chance a player in the top flight in Holland and Turkey who’s possibly a bit cheesed off at not having slotted straight in for us would come back from the Euros and say “yes boss, I’d love to spend a season up at Middlesbrough”.

Like everyone else, I’ve only seen him play in just a handful of games and I think there is a good young talented footballer there who I would love to see playing for us in the PL ... however I also see a young lad who would rather be a big fish in a small pond rather than a small fish in a big pond.
You can tell by his social media that looking the part by filming himself in his Mercedes with Turkish rap music blaring (just like Benrahma) and being with his crew / hanger on-ers is what he likes doing ... can we loan him out again or should we sell??

I think he would probably consider even Brentford in the PL to be a smaller pond than Besiktas or Galatasaray. The concern is more that he might not fancy being a small fish in a small pond.

Big pond to me means little Brentford up against giant clubs .. but in Turkey he’d be playing for one of the giant clubs .. I wasn’t trying to say we are bigger than Galatasaray or Besitkas

Halil Dervisoglu

It will be fascinating to see how he does in the Euros. To state the obvious, his loan spell has clearly gone well and a story linked from the one Les posted above has a source commenting that we have said we wouldn’t listen to anything less than 10 million Euros, which neither Galatasaray or Besiktas apparently have. We’ll see what happens - I could see him coming back and being given a chance in the team - in place of who, well, that’s a question!

Possibly a little cheeky to just pick Boro as the example but otherwise I agree with these answers I think. I think this leads me to think that the best course of action would be to sell for as much as we can get and reinvest

Halil Dervisoglu

Now that we know that SmartOdds gains intel from reading other fan websites, do you think our DOFs read GPG as light relief so they can chortle to themselves between actual transfer trades ?

I didn’t want to imagine him being loaned to QPR or Fulham and taking them up!

Halil Dervisoglu

I think people are being a little hasty selling him off. He’s literally only been with us a year now during which time he’s hardly had an awful lot of game time. Remember how long it took DaSilva to get up to speed?
The DOFs already know what they want to do. From the outside looks like we are not averse to another loan, and could be tempted by a permanent move if the price is right. If he does well in the Euros would certainly help raise the asking price. I have not seen much to tell me we want him to stay, could be wrong but think we will sell that will help fund future purchases.

Cut and past Emiliano when he joined us and then went on loan a few times.

Halil Dervisoglu

I can only recall a single loan for Emiliano to Midtylland at beginning of 19/20 campaign?

i agree

Halil Dervisoglu

Would you just love to have a sneaky look through the DoF’s phones for an hour reading the texts and emails .. it would put all our minds at rest to see who’s coming and who’s going!
What and spoil all the surprises. I am enjoying all the theories and rumours

Halil Dervisoglu

I think Halil is going to go down as an “if only he’d settled” player. I was impressed with him in the small glimpses we saw. Reminded me a bit of Maupay. He seems to be doing well in Turkey, and will make us some money. So best wishes...

Halil Dervisoglu

Can we please have Rebus's comment so we can get definitive ITK (even inverted ITK to the cynics) knowledge. :)

I would suggest valuing him at 10m euros suggests we're happy to keep him as I can't see anyone paying that for him unless he has a storming Euros in which case we'd probably put the price up... One of the many tweets about him from Turkey (and a seemingly more reliable one) suggested that we'd refused Galatasaray's offer of Diagne in exchange and also that we weren't interested in another loan for him.. It may be that the change in formation might give him more of an opportunity here. Who knows? I don't see us rushing to get rid though..

Halil Dervisoglu

Let's hope he has an impact at the Euros which will inevitably dial up the noise back in Turkey.

The big 4/5 over there always always make Summer signings so I have no doubt bids will come in if he takes his chance in this tournament.

You may be right, who knows? Imo we seem to have given Halil a try, but has not worked out, possibly for a variety of reasons. FWIW I think we will buy another forward that could put Halil further down the pecking order so I cannot see him staying, one way or another. This feels like a square peg in a round hole scenario, sometimes things just don't work out. Time will obviously reveal all....

Halil Dervisoglu

Wait till he and Marcus both score at the Euros and everyone will be saying “how have little old Brentford got TWO 21-year-old international strikers!”
One of whom started barely more than a handful of league games, the other who wasn’t even a regular on the bench!

I'm not sure we've 'given him a try'.. He's only been here a year. A large amount of that was during the pandemic. He's played 9 games for us in total I think with only 44 mins in the Championship..

Halil Dervisoglu

In the few minutes I saw him play for us, it was in our 4-3-3 and he didn't really seem comfortable. In our recent 3-5-2 I think he'd be very comfortable as one of the front two...

Halil Dervisoglu

Dervis is one of those winter transfer window signings whose body clock never seems to adjust, a bit like when it's summer for us, it's winter for him etc. You see it with other clubs' mid-season signings. Marcondes was a little like that, though an injury during his first pre-season with us could well be what seemed to set him back.

For this exact reason it astonishes me that any bees fans can make any judgement good or bad on him. He to me is still a complete unknown. I haven't seen any of his games in Turkey and unless someone on here can say they've watched every minute of his playing time in Turkey I'm not sure anyone but the DOFs can judge this lad.

They'll have a plan.

Exactly this. So the question is whether he rotates with Forss and Mbeumo up top alongside Toney (and whether that is enough to keep him happy) or whether he gets buried on our depth chart if we make another striker signing

Halil Dervisoglu

tbh i wanted to see more of Hail in the Brentford team, it was a shame that he was not able to fully grab a place in the team. giving a player like that only game time in cup comps is not enough and because he has thrived in Turkish football i'm not surprised on the impact he has made by allowing him game time at those clubs, now with Ivan and the new formation we play i still sadly don't see him getting in the team.

I think he's more likely to play in the 3-5-2. Question is whether we'll stick with that next season.. Suspect we might switch between that and 4-3-3..

Halil Dervisoglu

The bottom line is “Does he want to play for us?” I hope so, but I have my doubts. He seemed to enjoy playing for Sparta and now for Gala
better weather and far more sunshine compared to this country.

Halil Dervisoglu

Sad to see those that are going!! I suppose we must come to terms with the fact we are in a totally new era as far as Brentford are concerned

His Dad thinks he’s fantastico. Hopefully one of the big Turkish clubs will be able to raise their overdraft facility, and buy him. I’ve no reason to dispute your valuation though. He may be worth more after a season in the premier but it doesn’t look likely.
