Hamer & Bennett

Ideally if we can get them both signed permanently it'd be brilliant. However financially it will be a hard ask. Hamer has saleable value so Reading would probably be unwilling to let him go for nothing. Potentially a Turner style signing with a percentage of a sell on is possible.

As for Bennett if there's no fee involved and it doesn't involve paying extra money on the wages we are paying him now I'd be happy to sign him on an 18 month contract. Ideally we need to hope Darlington want to make Brown's loan permanent which will free up some cash.

Hamer & Bennett

Hamer will not be leaving Brentford before the season ends so all this talk of losing him in January is nonsense. I can only see Hamer staying with Brentford next season and beyond, albeit in another loan capacity or permanent signing, if Brentford get promoted this season.

It is in Brentford’s best interest to give Bennett a permanent contract in January. The guy might not be championship level however he is a very good player at league 2 level and will undoubtedly be adequate to play at league 1 level if the Bees get promoted.
Brentford will have a better chance of gaining promotion if Bennett is at the club and they need to do all they can to sign him.

A lot of fans will be very dismayed indeed if Bennett leaves in January.

Hamer & Bennett

Agreed, although where this cash might come from is anybody's guess. Given we have no financing in place to cover next season, any windfalls from this need to be banked like a squirrel stores his nuts. Ahem...

and our attendances are very disappointing this season --- i think any tv money will cover that shortfall and travel, hotels etc to barrow to play in fron of a small crowd.

we are averaging below 5,000 this season.

Hamer & Bennett

The manager is fully aware of the budget given to him at the start of the season and he spends it accordingly.

Any extra cash the club banks outside of the budget is none of his business. We have no extra funding past this May.

Are you saying we are in a worse position now than in the last few seasons?

I think the money should be saved / used to pay off debts, not spent.

Are you related to Norbert? We can't afford Bennett as a permanent player and if a league one club offers to buy Hamer in Jan, he'll be off. Simple as.

Hamer & Bennett

Rather have Bennett than excess baggage in the squad whom are clearly heading for conference or Rymans ( pead is on that list as are 2 others)

There is not a definitive answer yet as to whether we can afford Bennett. I hope Brentford can negotiate with him to sign a contract.

There is a possibility that a league one team could come in for Hamer however I don’t think Reading will sell him. Reading do have a lot of goalkeepers in their squad however they know how good Hamer is and the potential for him to get even better. As such it is highly unlikely he will be sold. I will be proved right on this matter at the end of January Davee boy. Simple as.

It depends what you mean. If you are talking about debt, then yes. Total Brentford debt is £9.1m as the club lost around £500k last season. These losses cannot go on and if we are not promoted and do not receive financial assistance, savage cuts will have to be made.

Ben Hamer would be an excellent investment if the money can be found. I really rate him and he's getting better and better.

How we will get promoted if we don't have any good centre halves apart from Phillips?

Nick, it boils down to this simple equation:

No cash for next season = no Brentford FC. Our club is for life, not just the 2008-09 season. Brett Jonhson and Karleigh Osborne are "good" centre haves in my opinion.

Well i was told we are " having a right go " this season. That doesn't mean letting your best defender leave halfway through the season.

I would think he'd want Heywood-type wages, if not more. That's a lot for a League Two centre half.

Hamer is a different case, he would be an saleable asset.

what are 'heywood type wages'? Will he been feeling good or bad after today's pre-budget report?

Two grand a week, which is less than half what Bennett earns from us and Reading on loan. No Premier League sub centre half earns less than 5k a week at 25.

Ray Clemence attended game on Saturday. Wonder who he was scouting for (apart from England :D) and looking at? :fishing:

He thought Brown was playing and was going to offer him to Harry Redknob as cover for Gomes:fishing::sorted:

On another subject as our injury list gets longer , Why does it take our players to get over any injury longer than the norm ? Smith,s injury is prime example, has yet to play this season and we,re nearly in december :(

Strange comment... An injury takes as long as it takes, there are no rules.
I hurt my hip in Feb 07 (Seen specialist etc ) it still isn't right now.

:imwith:

There was a time when we seemed to having more training ground related injuries than others but at the moment most of our injuries seem to have been "obtained" during a game

Despite what happened last night with Ben i'd still love to sign him. Before his mistake he was top class, techincally he was brillant.

His mistake was stupid, but he's 21 (just) and had a rush of blood to the head, and in all honesty this is why we've got him here in the first place. If anything he'll learn from this and come back better for it.

I heard some ludcrious comments in the pub last night. One person said we should send him back to Reading now, one said we should recall Simon Brown and one said he should **** off because he is a cocky arrogant ****. On the 3 points

1) Would be a massive blow to us.
2) No thanks I'd rather have one of the few keepers in the division who claims crosses, and not some flappy mcflapperson at crosses.
3) While I don't think i'd get on with Ben in real life because he does strike me as cocky etc, thats what makes him a good goalkeeper, and judging by things himself and Andy have said, I get the feeling his confidence drops very easily, like last year.

So please lay off him, for making a mistake, as I'd rather have IMO the best goalkeeper in the division in full confidence for the rest of the season, as if Ben is at his best for the rest of the season, we have a much better chance of promotion, espeically as what of should been a piss easy win at Accrington, now looks like a tough game, simply because whether its Anderson or Brown (seb) we are going to have a rookie keeper in goal.

Hamer & Bennett

....................he just has to look at his decision to gather the ball and learn from it..............mistakes happen.................unfortunately................

Hamer & Bennett

He needs to get his head down and learn from last night. Let's hope he doesn't do a Scott Carson and let lightning strike twice. He needs to put in a dominating and confident performance in the next two games at Accrington and especially at home to Bradford in front of the home crowd. He has been good so far, but he needs to improve his judgement (as last night prooved) and also communicate better with his defenders. Once he has that sorted, he'll be excellent. What he doesn't need however, is people telling him he should be playing for the England Under-21s.

I confidently predict that Ben Hamer will not make any mistakes against Accrington. :)

Hamer & Bennett

Ah, I forgot he's got himself suspended. Is he out until Boxing Day now?

Hamer & Bennett

Replays showed He lost the ball and instinctively tried to get it back, rather than take out the player imo. Not doubting it was a professional foul but it's too easy to sit their in hindsight and say you should just let the player go...

Hamer & Bennett

I think it was wise man Clough who said a top keeper was worth 15 points a season.

At this level Hamer is just that IMHO.

When we get to the end of the season take 15 points off our total and that's where we would be without Hamer.

Hamer & Bennett

When an outfield player cocks up it is often covered up by someone else. However, when the keeper fecks up it generally leads to one thing. Unfortunately last night it lead not only to a goal, but playing three quarters of the game with ten men.

Yes it was an awful decision, but I would still rather have him than some of the more recent Bees keepers.

Hamer & Bennett

I think Phillips has eased himself into the side alongside Bennett and has looked confident. If KO can do the same I would be happy. Not sure if it is worth flashing the GP chequebook for either Hamer or Bennett though. It is our defence that has contributed mostly to our league position so it will be a difficult decision for AS but I think we should still reach at least the playoffs without them.

All players make mistakes, goalkeepers are punished for theirs, but I would love to have BH on our books, mistakes or not.

We seem to have forgotten what Stewart Nelson was like.....thank God for Hamer.

Nelson was a twerp but not as bad a keeper as some liked to make out. For starters, he was initially replaced by an even worse one.

Hamer is a top quality keeper :sorted:

Yes! he makes the odd mistake, but by god he makes up for it with his saves and cross taking.

Keep going Ben, you'll do for me.

:sorted: The club are fortunate to have Ben Hamer. A decent competent keeper. Last night he didn't lose the ball, he tried to keep it in the box as his momentum was taking him and the ball. He released it and in the split second their player niped in. The havent game was on his mind. BH is a good safe keeper.

Too right, leave Ben alone, he's saved us a few times :)
So what he made a mistake on Fri night :), I'd rather have had 3 points at LTFC than a win at Barrow.....we need to get promotion ...end of.

Hamer has made 2 bad mistakes in my mind; Barrow and Aldershot. Both times he came dashing out when perhaps there was no need. Compare this to iron boots Simon Brown, who was stuck to his goaline. Know which one I would rather have. Best keeper we have had for a long time.

Spot on, hang on a minute didn't he get a really bad back pass from Dickson at Vale and try and dribble it out? Did we luckily get a soft free kick when the ref gave us a free kick for the forward's challenge? Did he come out and lie down at Luton, wasn't that not a pen as the Luton lad stayed honest, honest and Luton player in the same line.:eek:I'm sure he handled outside the box at H&W and tried to let one fly out that was never going over the line. A good keeper but loads to learn and much better than Brown but I just wanted to add some honesty to his recent shows.

Hes no Dave Mckellar but no Paul Mccullough either
