Hamer & Bennett

I assume he's been offered an extended contract rather than an 'improved' one?

He signed a two year contract when he joined us and this runs through June 2010. The problem is that speculation on here suggests that maybe Sam has been offered an extended contract with increased wages and that he is refusing to sign. That is untrue. I gently suggest that re-negotiating the contract of a player who is already under contract and an integral part of the squad is not an immediate priority but one that will no doubt be looked at in the near future. In that respect Sam is in the same situation as Charlie MacDonald, Nathan Elder and Ryan Dickson all important players who have entered the last year of their contracts.

But that doesn't change the fact that we have offered him a new/extended/better* contract and he hasn't signed it. Fruther, inferring from your post, he isn't going to sign it anytime soon, presumably because he believes he will be in a better bargaining position as the end of his contract approaches.

Hamer & Bennett

i like these sort of statements... wonderfully optimistic but absolutely no proof.
what's your source? otherwise we won't believe you!

By chance I ran into the 2 people who should know AS better than anyone (I think that clue is sufficient to work out who this must be!) today and they were telling that a keeper is coming to us from Derby County. I asked if there was any news about AB and they said he is def with us for this season. That's what I was told and I have absolutely no reason to doubt the source. I was delighted to hear this, and am merely passing on the info I was given to the GPG.

I've just heard about this source and found it remarkably funny lol

because he can get 1 months pay from the PFA (i think i read this somewhere on here?) so he'll probably sign on August 1st.

I read this too. The only thing that I was wondering was if it were true why don't all the players that are out of contract do it or do they?

Hamer & Bennett

Fair play to the club, they're telling us he's ours without actually telling us :sorted:

Depends on the relative value of the contracts is my guess. If your new contract is higher than your old, it makes no sense to take the redundancy month. But if, like Bennett, your old contract is higher (probably quite a bit higher) then it makes sense not to lose the money.

Hamer & Bennett

I am encouraged by this.
But still a bit worried...

and do your new club a favour.

Wasn't he on 5k per week with Reading or somethink like that, on the basis we are paying significantly less than half of that you can see why a month of Reading pay is worth it to him.

What does 'tght' stand for ?

Hamer & Bennett

I completely understand why Mr Bennett has not signed until Aug 1st with the extra money from his old contract. However, what happens if he breaks a leg during a pre-season game or training? Is he insured? Will Brentford take him on?
