Head injuries?

Not for the first time today Brentford have been victims of so called “head injuries”.
The Millwall number 6, Williams, went down like a sack of **** when we were actually in a promising position. He was obviously not injured!
Perhaps if there was a rule introduced that forced the so called injured party to leave the pitch for a few minutes this might stop!

He did leave the pitch.

And you cannot punish players that genuinely do have concussion, otherwise they will carry on playing!

Head injuries?

That’s up to the medical team to ascertain whether or not a player has concussion.

Head injuries?

Not sure what other option the ref has when a player goes down with a head injury. There was an incident in the second half where Millwall's left back went down briefly holding his head after a challenge, then realised they were attacking and got up immediately. Also have no idea why their centre half was down holding his head right in front of us that stopped a decent attacking position. Their physio was laying on the floor 'holding' his head and the player kept lifting it. Not saying it would have made any difference to the result but the amount of head injuries looked suspicious and stopped at least two of our attacking plays.

Head injuries?

The dark arts. Clearly coached to do this by Rowett and Bowyer. The epitome of anti-football. Refs should be encouraged to punish the player if it then becomes obvious that they have faked it.

Head injuries?

So infuriating, especially as the ball was just being laid off to JDS in his left foot in acres of space just inside the box

My point exactly.

Head injuries?

Players will always cheat, it is up the ref to sort it out, if he knows they are cheating book them afterwards. If you take a whack and roll around or you are unconscious and make a miracle recovery jumping up and shouting in the refs face for a red card you have been cheating.

Head injuries?

Quite simple. If any player requires treatment on the pitch they must then leave the field for 5 minutes to recover properly. If the injury is genuine they'd welcome the recovery time. If not they're letting the team down.

Head injuries?

At first thought I like the idea that if they go down for a head injury then they must leave the field to be checked by a doctor.

They do this in the NFL, it takes five minutes but it doesn't impact the number of players on the field and the ball is not in play for this whole time so matters less.

Do you then allow the team to bring on a short term sub whilst this is happening?

What if they have used all their proper subs, especially if he is deemed unfit to return?

How long till we see something like the "bloodgate" with it being used to manipulate the players on the pitch at a certain time?

This is it, surely? The refs already have the power to punish for simulating injuries, they just need to use it.

I do think the team currently lacks anyone prepared to go screaming up to the ref when the other side cheats, telling him to do his effing job and pulll a card out for obvious cheating. We just seem to shrug and turn away - see the blatant handball in the box by West Brom just before they equalised last week.

Pontus - do your job :)

The problem is that when you go screaming to the ref telling him to do his effing job, you are more likely than not to get a yellow card yourself.

And that is the problem, the refs don’t sort it out.

Rob Jones is one of the weakest refs we have to endure and looked like he was reffing to the home crowds calls.
The “head injury” that Williams suffered in the penalty area towards the end that saw the game stopped while we had possession should have seen the cheat booked.
Someone else mentioned that if you claim a head injury you have 5 minutes off the pitch whole medics check, that problem would soon go away I’d bet

There's no way the ref could have know their no.6 was cheating yesterday, without having VAR footage to look at. It's no different from that incident with the Chelsea player v Spurs last week that went down like he was shot to get Son sent off. There was no comeback on that because he alleged 'racist chants' (which strangely, no evidence has been found for and Spurs's investigation with all their cameras and mics is 'inconclusive'.)

The only way to stop these cheats and all other play acting is for retrospective punishments after video evidence. Personally, I'd ban the player for 10 games and fine the manager as well, but that's never going to happen. However, that would stop it overnight and no manager will tell his players to do it if he knows he will be hit in the pocket too.

In the old days, managers would fine their own players for getting booked and sent off. This rarely seems to happen now, with the manager always seeming to want to defend the indefensible. I know Brian Clough's players wouldn't have dreamt of cheating like this.

The moment when the ref ran over to the corner flag to check if the ball was correctly placed for our corner simply because their clown fans were hollering was very special. The ball was indeed placed correctly, so he ran off looking like the idiot he was.

The problem then is that players won't admit to having a head injury, which is far, far worse.

It was fairly obvious he was play acting to stop an attack but can’t blame the ref for stopping play. This sort of tactic is well drilled into them by the coaching staff.

As for the ref overall he did his best I guess but the Den is an intimidating place. I did think he might even have sent off their player who flicked the flag out of the lino’s hand after contesting a decision?? He might also have booked their player who, early on, stopped Raya making a quick clearance but they seem to let those sort of things pass these days.

That makes no sense, the point of this thread is the player has gone down either feigning injury or is actually injured and the ref has stopped play as a result. As such the player doesn't get to not admit he has an injury and just like in rugby gets to go and see the medical staff for assessment. The assessment period needs to be long enough for players/managers to wonder whether it's worth cheating in the first place.

It could however lead to a player with a genuine injury bravely battling on because he doesn't want the team to be down to 10 for the mandatory 5 minutes that was suggested earlier. Therefore where a player may have gone down with a head injury he stays on his feet and continues, that then gets into dangerous territory.

However, this is about play being stopped by a player feigning a head injury. If a player is going to soldier on and stay on their feet to avoid being taken off, they are going to try and do this regardless, although if you have been hit hard enough to be concussed you don't generally stay on your feet. Have there been any recent instances, in professional football of a concussed player being allowed to play?

If player goes down with a ‘head injury’ he should go off for 5 minutes for assessment and be replaced by his..........................
mum.
If mum not available then his auntie.
Note to self. Don’t post when deep in drink!

Head injuries?

Unless it's the clearest case of a head injury to stop play. The ref should just wave on the physio while play continues. That will stop the rolling around/cheating

So be it. The game is more than likely moved on and away from alleged head injury, will stop the cheating

The reason we are upset is because we had a good attacking position. If we didn’t then stopping the game wouldn’t be an issue.

More to the point, when there was a head injury in the first half their player stayed on but pontus was made to leave the pitch from the same incident. What utter nonsense, pontus was hardly cheating as the game was stopped for the other guy.

Simple common sense.

That is where the medical staff come in.

Head injuries?

Let a medic or physio or whoever onto the pitch wherever possible asap to see to the player rather than stop play? In a large majority of cases the play moves on quickly from the area where whatever incident happened. Might not always be possible but atleast players wont be able to halt play whenever they see an oppurtunity without risking leaving their team a man down

The only reason they go down is to stop play so if it is not stealing an advantage from the opposition then they would not do it. Unlike rugby the game can switch from one part of the pitch to another in under a second, if you allowed 3-4 medical staff on the pitch they would be causing a major obstruction to the game and you can guarantee it would interfere with play and then everyone would be surrounding the referee again.

Head injuries?

I thought the reason to go down was either, concussion, or a stroke. How naive of me.

Then allow play to continue and wave on the physio, game wouldn't have stopped

Something has to be done about the amount of times we stop play for mysterious head injuries that have miraculous recoveries...it's used as a tool to stop offensive attacks ...every game 4 or 5 times these players go down like they've crushed their skull only to Jump to their feet within seconds

Not sure what can be done other than force substitutions but then, like Banana said couple years back (earlier in thread) no player will go down and will continue and make one case potentially worse (only needs one case to bring shame on any new rule) by wanting/needing to continue and may also get players to target opponents to go down so they're forced off.

But I do agree, it is the latest new tactic by teams to get the game stopped.

Head injuries?

This is where VAR could be used. If they review the case where a potential head injury has occurred and decide it was the players thigh that was hit and not their cranium, the result should be a free kick from any point on the D of the penalty area and book the player.

They have enough time when the game is held up. I would imagine one or two weeks of this rule being introduced we would see a major change in the number of head injuries.

Head injuries?

VAR should look at all head injuries. If a player has feigned injury to stop the game then he should get a yellow card.

And if not he should go off for an assessment as is done in rugby and AFL and to some degree cricket. Perhaps an extra substitute should be allowed on while the assessment takes place. No idea what happens in American and Canadian Football but I would imagine the next advert break would allow time for a complete medical assessment of the affected player.

A ruling change is necessary because of players FEIGNING injury, and it’s getting worse by the week. More use of subs etc would be helpful - there’s enough of ‘em these days! Teams are building their tactics around feigned injuries and it should be stopped. There was a classic yesterday done to us just after they scored.

Head injuries?

On a related subject, is it me, or do players go down/stay down easier/for longer now when a shot/pass hits them on the head (deliberately or otherwise)?
In the past, the defender would just shake their head couple of times and carry on. Now they seem to be completely pole-axed.
Surely the balls were much heavier back in the day too.....??.....

If they are actually hit in the head they should stay down and get checked for concussion. Nothing wrong with that, shaking it off could lead to long term damage.

Ramsay should have been booked for his effort yesterday in the first half ✅
