Todays result 10-0 is the highest I can remember in 40 odd years of supporting the Bees. We all know 9-0 is our record victory in the league, but is anyone aware of any better than todays result io 'official' pre season or other frendlies?

I think we beat Wycombe 12 something a long time ago.

I said on the Tonbridge thread that the Bees have won 10-3 v Hailsham (testimonial) 11-1 v Henley (end of season friendly) and a 12-1 v Chalfont St Peter (testimonial) Our top score in the league is well known, 9-0 v Wrexham, our southern league record score is 11-1 v Wycombe wanderers.

Hit double figures against Windsor & Eton sometime in 90s - Bob Taylor got five or six - in a mid season friendly. My memory says it ended 11-1.

I remember going to the Hailsham match. When were the Henley and Chalfont games?

I haven't got any details of either of those! I might have to talk further with you when I've re-checked!!

I've got the Henley Town programme (played on a Thursday with a 6.30 KO) but not the Chalfont St Peter one..... I wonder if Tony Ross has a copy?

Sounds like an amended entry is required for the Big Brentford Book of the 80s!!

Checkout the home programme v tranmere on 8.9.01 page 43. Details about the Chalfont match there. :sorted:

I don't have line ups or who scored in the Henley Town game. Only those listed in the programme that I have.

We played Windsor in November 1994-95 and won 7-0 in a friendly. Didn't win with double figures that I know of.

Perhaps you could make sure Hertford Bee has any info too so we can make sure our data is correct for our book series. Thanks.

Memory says it was later in the season than that - more like February - during a spell when we had games postponed because of cup ties - the match was going to be played the week before but got called off at last minute and was rearranged. It was at Stag Meadow - definitely double figures - possiby 96/7 as I recall Steve Slade played on trial along with Omigie

If Slade played then it's around February/March 1997.

If the Wycombe score is our highest competitive win then the record books need updating. I'd rather have the wycombe name on the end of a heavy defeat than Wrexham.

Didn't we beat Hampton 7-0 pre-season a few years ago IIRC was it Nicky Forster's debut and Trevor Benjamin scored a hat-trick - only goals he scored for us I think.

I'm not at home to check on that fixture, if it took place, so it'll have to wait unless someone else remembers it? Or has a record if it.

Not really! It's our record football league win that counts in most records listed. Wycombe is listed for overall record score in some lists though. :sorted:

Unlike cricket, football does not have an official body to clarify "first class" games so it's up for debate. Would be interested if anyone has records of a better result than the 12-1 win. I saw the Hailsham fixture, a full first team was sent and Micky French was the opposition manager.

...and therein lies the difficulty. When I checked, I do have details of the Chalfont game but I had classed it as a reserve team fixture, even allowing for the fact that it was also nominated as a benefit match. There were a number of games that were arranged to fill gaps in reserve team fixtures and I've never really classed them as friendly matches, but more so as "other reserve team games played".

There have been a number of high-scoring reserve team games, though, including a 10-0 defeat at Wealdstone in 1984-85 and an 11-1 win in the same fixture during the following season!

Sorry, meant Ian Benjamin (I think) Trevor B was the Cambridge striker

Remember him scoring away at Hartlepool away in a 1-0 win i am pretty sure

Yes I remember that, a late winner up their end, around 75th minute.

Up our end, wasn't it? We were in the open terrace. Half of it, anyway. Doesn't really matter now.............

Yes my glasses fell on the pitch in the celebrations

A few wallopings

We beat Abertillery 10-0, at home, in November 1914.It was in the Southern Lague Second Division. However, Arbertillery resigned and disbanded the following month-and the record was expunged.
And, no, I was not at that game.
In 1893/4 we beat Kneller Hall ( !!)by 10-1 at home, in the West London Alliance. QPR and Ipswich were in the same league-but so too were Uxbridge Reserves, 2nd Coldstream Guards and a side called Westminster Ponsonby!
The 11-1 home victory over Wycombe Wanderers in Feb 1900 was also in the Southern League Second Division-and we followed that up by walloping Fulham 5-1 the following week!:)
