Igor Thiago

Hope he gets a start! I think although there are more technically skilled center forwards there, there are certainly no forwards that are as hard working or physically powerful in the way that Igor is

Igor Thiago

There is an english audio dub
For those who can't access the dubbed version (where my notes are taken from, I can't speak Portuguese):
  • Everyone has been very welcoming, they've made him feel at home. Some of the players he's only seen on television, it's an incredible feeling.
  • He feels proud and grateful to be selected. He's representing his country and his family.
  • He talks about having to work as a kid. The experience helped him become the person he is today, and to appreciate each moment.
  • He talks about competing for being in contention for top Prem goal scorer and how that drives him. He says he's ready for the challenge. Feels you need to perform at the top of your game for national team selection.
  • He's played in a number of different countries and leagues at a young age. The range of experiences gives him a unique mentality, it makes him adaptable.
  • He understands not everyone can watch the Premier League/Brentford, so it's an opportunity to show Brazilians how he plays.
  • Seeing himself talked about as a possible Brazil player makes him proud. His efforts aren't going unnoticed. The Prem is one of the hardest leagues in the world, it's difficult to break into it. It's his life's dream to play for Brazil.
  • He wants to take every advantage of the opportunity, whether it's in training or if he gets some game time.
  • He wants to learn as much as possible from Ancelotti.

What do we reckon then?
Chance of getting decent (any) minutes v France tonight?
Or v Croatia on Wednesday?

I guess it depends if Ancelotti has already picked his world cup squad or not
🤷‍♂️

Igor has earned his chance at the World Cup.

However, he won’t make the squad and his inclusion now just ticks the box to say he’s been looked at before the final decision is made.
I don't see it that way. Ancelotti is a pragmatist. Not being Brazilian, he's not interested in external noise or what the media thinks. He's purely focused on winning the World Cup which would probably make him on paper the greatest manager of all time.
Thiago will be in the final squad if Ancelotti believes he can strengthen the squad.
Exactly the same goes for another debutant, Rayan of Bournemouth, another pick that will have raised eyebrows in Brazil.

I hope not, but we’ve been here before. Is it something about the initials ‘IT’ and Brentford?
I am pretty sure he will get some game time. And if he plays as well as he does for us. Good hold up play, bullies defenders and ideally caps it all off with a goal...the allegedly sceptical Brazilian public will be onside...

Igor Thiago

Feels like he needs to basically put in a performance that means he can't be dropped for the WC - if he is selected tonight I'll have a watch

Igor Thiago

Tim Vickery on TalkSport just saying Ancelotti is throwing in a few due to lots of injuries.
And can use it as an excuse if they lose, and then bin off some of the newbies from the WC squad.
Didn't specifically reference IT. Was mainly talking about defence, but I guess his inclusion could be part of that thinking........

I tend to agree, especially when you see their options. Brazil will always go for flair over Thiago’s kind of build in forward positions.
Paul Clement is the assistant manager, so I hope he can convince the powers that be that a Thiago option amongst the forward line, especially against European teams, could be useful

Did he clarify if it is about him or God?

Brazil don't always go for flair in a No 9. Serginho was the CF in the 82 World Cup, one of the great Brazilian teams. As the squad is being picked by an Italian none of the history is remotely relevant anyway.

Igor Thiago

They'd be nuts not to pick him for Brazil.
True. I find this idea that Ancelotti has only picked him to tick a box and already has no intention of taking him to the tournament totally bizarre.

Brazil not the flair team for a while now

Is that Martinelli as a striker? Weird.
Nah, it would be an attacking 4 with Cunha and Vinicius most central with Martinelli and Raphinha on the wings... Though it's Brazil so it could be quite fluid.

I hope he gets on but think the most likely sub for Vinicius is Endrick, while Cunha and João Pedro vie for the same role.

Igor Thiago

Brazil look awful tonight - how Martinelli gets anywhere near an international team, i will never know.
Casemiro should have been sent off for continuing to abuse the ref after being carded.
Thiago at his worst will look better than the Brazilians on the pitch currently

Mind you, Frahce look tasty - a very good team with very good players. Hope Thomas T is watching - it'll show him what he has to inspire his team to do tomorrow (and patriotic as I am, I'm doubtful they'll be able to come anywhere near).

Completely agree

Pedro coming on so be surprised to see Igor now

Very doubtful Igor gets on now.
A somebody catching Joao Pedro with an elbow might not hurt though
