Its the devil and the deep blue sea. I'm torn.

1) Do we want the world to see that the Brazilian striker at the World Cup plays for little old Brentford.
2) Do we want a full refreshed, recovered eager to go, less likely to injuries because he's had a break leading our line at the start of next season.

Know what Tiago wants to do but what about the team ?

He's the 2nd top scorer in the most watched league in the world so I don't think there's any point worrying about him getting above the radar. Playing for his country in the World Cup would do wonders for his own self belief and confidence going into next season.

I get the idea of wanting our players rested and not getting injured but aside from that I think we should just want the very best for our players and right now that's going to the World Cup for some.

Thiago is a top player and many of those type of players will be in hope of fulfilling their dreams of playing in the World Cup Finals this summer from what I have heard about Igor he is one such player, after what he has done for our club this season who would deny him that opportunity if it arose?

There are five weeks from the World Cup Final til the first Premier League weekend of 2026/27. I hope Igor bangs in the goals to take Brazil to at least the quarter finals (v. England?), then has a nice long holiday and comes back bouncing for next season. Igor v. Kane at 10pm on Saturday 11th July would be cause for a few 🍻

In the short term it's probably better for Igor to be rested. In the longer term it's a fantastic boost for our recruitment. A Brentford player leading the Brazil attack in the World Cup Finals powerfully demonstrates to potential new signings that we can offer them a wonderful pathway to fulfilling their ambitions. They certainly wouldn't need to worry about us limiting their international aspirations.

My gut says he'll be included in the squad but won't be the preferred choice to start and it will be similar to Toney in the Euro's.

For his sake i hope i'm wrong but he's only recently made his debut in the national team and Brasil's snobbery about the way they like to play would mean a complete tactical re think when he's on the pitch.

If he goes to the WC he wont be Brazils starting striker imo, so he should get a decent rest out there

I don't think we should underestimate the need for a rest on the mental side away from football that he would get spending 5 or 6 weeks on holiday with his family. Being part of any international squad in a World Cup is full on even if not a regular starter, but being part of Brazil squad is on a different level with regards to scrutiny from the media and fans. Obviously I hope he is selected and plays a major role but that may have an impact on his form next season.

Making the (huge) jump from Belgian to English football. 22 goals in the best league in the world, only bettered by Haaland. 25 in all competitions. Straight off the back of a serious injury, playing 90 mins every week throughout the season with no natural backup. And all you’ve done in this thread is slag him off. What a joke

I have no problem with him winning defensive headers from corners.
But, we HAVE to have an outlet to pick them up after, all of them went straight to their players as we had nobody outside our box

Interesting conundrum. Especially at he seems to be our best defender at times. I, too get very frustrated when there is no ‘out ball’ and see the ball cleared only to see it come back with interest!

Was it the days of the Breadman when two players were left up we were defending a corner? Albeit that was League One/ Championship

Completely agree with this, in addition, especially after the recent article about the concern from a number of scientific bodies that the heat could have a big impact on players, if that’s not handled properly, I wouldn’t be surprised if many either aren’t well or require more recovery time at the start of the season.

Obviously may not come to that, but you never know
