With hindsight, might have been preferable for IT to have missed out on a starting place in last night's game, where Brazil were poor, and then given the opportunity to start in their next game, v Haiti. When he'd probably have more chances.

After last night's performance (by the whole team)/fans reactions, unlikely he'll start next game now?

Agree, Thiago didnt do himself any favours. But hey ho enjoy the moment, i have a feeling Brazil wont be around too long.

Delighted for Thiago that he got to start for Brazil in the World Cup. Now, selfishly, not overly fussed if he plays a bit part role in the final two group games and Round of 32, with Brazil exiting the tournament and Thiago getting a nice break before the start of next season.

I only watched the first half. He missed a golden chance early on, but didn’t get the service from crosses. Vini Jr always thinks he will score so doesn’t provide crosses from the left whereas nothing much comes from the right leaving Thiago feeding off scraps.

They don’t cross because they don’t play as team.

He didn’t play well (none of them did) but he’s not the first player to miss a decent chance in the first 15 mins or so of an opening WC game.

Infuriating how Shearer felt the need to bring it up every five mins while every time Vini Jr gave the ball away there was silence.

He looks like he's lacking confidence weirdly. I thought he was a bit off it tho for the last 7 or 8 games for the Bees too so not too surprising.

I've said it to a few of my non Bees mates, for me he's the best IT we've had at Brentford in terms of a human being, but he's not the best Footballer.

Missed the header (was a great little run to get in position) but absolutely thumped one on target from 15 yards later
If he had more service we would have seen more from him.
He pressed the Morocco defence relentlessly, if only some of his teammates were as bothered

The lack of energy in the BRAZIL midfield certainly restricted the service to THiago. Had a glorious chance to score with his head but has to get the ball on target. We know he is not the finished article yet and as the commentator mentioned of his total goals scored in the Premiership only 2 have been headers. If Brazil go further his penalty contribution could prove crucial.
He has reached another milestone in representing his country at international level.

It might partly depend on what Ancelotti wants to do tactically, and whether he thinks Thiago would have more chances in those games too.

Along similar lines to something I posted in the Group C thread, Brazil seemed to switch to a 4-2-2-2 when Cunha came on for Thiago, with Vinícius Jr and Raphinha up front and Cunha in a deeper left midfield role, rather than him playing in the same areas as Thiago. So Thiago may still be the preferred option if Ancelotti wants a target-man type of striker, e.g. to help make space for Vinícius and Raphinha as much as anything else? Perhaps that might work better against Haiti and Scotland, if those teams sit back a bit more than Morocco did and if Brazil keep more possession and control of the game?

The 4-2-2-2 switch last night seemed to come at a point when it was clear that there was space in behind Morocco's defence, and when Brazil's attacking play had already been focused on getitng the ball straight to Vinicíus and Raphinha but with them starting from slightly less advanced positions. It also seemed to put more onus on Vinicíus and Raphinha to press the defenders themselves, instead of leaving that to Thiago as they often had been. Thiago seemed a little off the pace at times too, but that might not have been helped by having to press so singlehandedly and having so few opportunities to be more actively involved.

He wasn't full of confidence and didn't look great on the ball or take his 2 chances that well, but his movement off the ball was really good, he got in 2 good goalscoring positions despite not a lot being created for him, and if Vini jr had opted to cross instead of shoot for his goal, or if it's had spilled, Igor would have been at the back post for that as well. He occupied his centre backs well which gave vini he and raphinha more space to work with, and he pressed aggressively. So yes not the greatest performance and not that pretty on the eyes, but it actually wouldn't shock me if Don Carlo still picked him over Cunha and Endrick, tho I think it might shock and dismay the Brazil fans if he did.

One game and the outside watching world are experts.
We should worry not.
We know he was a little off the boil in the run in. Strikers run in and out of form.
He’s played more games this season over 10 months than most.
He played poorly for a number of reasons.
It happens.
He’s 24 and there are at least 17 other PL teams that would be happy to have him in their squad.
That’s a great asset for us as we go into the new season.
Happy for him, happy for us and the experts can continue to say he’s not that good when he starts scoring again for us next season.

Shearer wanted Cunga to start, hence his derogatory comments about Mr T, and confirmed this soon after the substitution. In typical Cunha fashion he was more interested in himself rather than trying to play for the team; a trait several other of their attackers had which made for a lack of cohesion and purpose.

He was injured and replaced by Hurst. Was fit for final Hurst kept his place due to good performances against Argentina & Portugal. Some forget there were fewer rounds. Straight to QF after group stage

Agree with all the comments re Shearer, Casemiro and Cunha, plus the lack of service etc. But that said, I think some of the posters on here would be a bit more critical of IT were he eg a Brighton or Bournemouth player. Fact is, he wasn't terribly good, was he? (And I know you could say the same for a lot of his teammates.)

Anyhow, the good news is that if he doesn't feature prominently at this World Cup, Bees won't have to fear some big club coming in with an offer we can't refuse next season. Which will suit me! (y)
