He only made his international debut a few months ago, he's probably just delighted to be in the squad! Still a wonderful achievement for him and the fact he even started a game is just a bonus.

Particularly as according to some alleged well informed journalists, Igor was completely out of the WC picture only a few months ago.

If he starts next season with a bang, he’ll keep on being called up.

That’s probably the best scenario for us. He’s gone to the World Cup, trained with some very good players under an exceptional coach, started a game and probably on the bench for the tournament with a pitch-side view, hoping for a few more minutes. There may be a game where Ancelotti sees the tactical need for a more traditional centre forward, so I’d assume he’s fully engaged in training scenarios.

If he’s back for pre-season fully fit, clear-headed and brings some new tactical knowledge, what more could we want?

The thought that £69m is a good deal is very flawed. We signed him for £30m, gave him a new contract that would have added to that outlay - we'd need at least £40m to replace him so effectively, we'd be accepting no return for a player who was the second highest goalscorer in the Premier League.

Why would we do that when the player has 5 years left on his contract?

lets not forget Wissa was arguable a better goal scorer having scored 5 more goals in open play than Thiago in his last season. A more clinical finisher in front of goal in his final season with us.

Cunha starts again. At this stage, to be expected.

Igor’s character has shown that the confidence he’ll have gotten from simply being named in the squad should outweigh any frustration that he hasn’t played more.

How he starts next season will be interesting. There is the possibility of course he’ll pick up from where he left earlier in the season, and whilst I think Agbonlahors assessment is utter rubbish, we may need to be a bit patient at times

Heard Tim Vickery talking about Igor on TalkSport earlier. Basically said he feels that his poor performance in the first game exacerbated the idea that Brazil fans already held that he isn’t upto it. Said he felt sorry for him and doesn’t expect to see him play again this tournament and blamed Ancelotti for managing him badly. Said he was shocked when he started that first game and thought it put too much pressure on him when he should have found his way into the team gradually.

The stupid thing is, it wasnt a bad performance.
Yes, he missed a decent chance,but worked very hard and its very hard to play well when you are dependant on service from 3 or 4 very greedy players

I probably misquoted Tim Vickery there to be fair. He actually said something along the lines of he didn’t do anything wrong other than missing the header rather than he played bad. Basically was suggesting that he was set up to fail with anything other than a 10/10 performance.

Thing is, Brazil have genuinely picked up with change of shape since taking him off and have had no reason to change it to include him.

Yes it’s true. Can see why. They’re starting with players who have delivered or seized their chance. Martinelli came off the bench and scored so he starts today. Just wish our guy could get his big moment. Morocco was a very tough fixture to start on.
