Whilst he hasn’t looked great in the friendlies, I saw enough last season to have high hopes for him.

My concern is that if he starts slowly the pressure and the ‘they are struggling without Wissa and Mbeumo’ narrative will grow quickly which will pile the pressure on him.

That applies to KA too ?

If Thiago reaches double figures in his first season in the Prem then that would be an acceptable achievement as long as he contributes to our game and the goals are shared across our forward line.
a few ifs.

hopefully he will!

Igor Thiago

not if PL ready
I keep seeing this but I have no clue what it means. Thiago has been with us a whole season and, while he’s gone through an injury-treatment-retreatment-recovery cycle he’s spent a lot of time during that period in and around the squad – a Premier League squad. He’s now had a full pre-season, so is he not PL ready?

Nope.

He's not match fit yet

Not just the last two friendlies...all the cameos last season....has he had a shot yet !

I hate to be a pedant (actually, not really) but he did score and hit the woodwork against Gil Vicente. He looked fairly sharp then, albeit against moderate opposition, when he had Schade and others around him. He's been very poor since but was isolated in a makeshift attack weaker than the one we'll likely be fielding most of the season.

I think he's very much a work in progress who will frustrate a fair bit initially, but the club doesn't spend £30m on a player without good reason. Lots of patience is going to be required.

So is someone like Calvert Lewin and Callum Wilson PL ready? Would you prefer them?
To be fair though that's being slightly facetious. Calvert Lewin has never excelled and look how close Everton have come to going down as a result.

Honestly, if he stays fit, I think Wilson could be a shrewd signing for West Ham.

Either way, I think we are all just trying to balance what's expected of him and ultimately the even greater responsibility and immediate impact he'll need to provide considering our departures.

If it hadn't been for his injury, and he already had played in the league, perhaps those casting doubts might be a bit less concerned. Personally, I think he'll do okay. But I also wouldn't be surprised if we see a greater spread of goals, including Kev improving upon his 11 from last season (might well see our 20 goal striker in him)

Anyone know whether IT will be on penalties? In FPL he's a nice cheap option and if he has pens that will make him a worthwhile purchase for many. A couple of mates have asked me already and it dawned on me that I've no idea who would take our penalties in the absence of Bryan and Wissa.

Dams perhaps

He took them for Brugge.
But I don't think we will know until we get a penalty; wouldn't do us any favours to announce it the opposition beforehand.

I'd like to think we have 6-7 good penalty takers in the team though.

I am sure they will all have had an intense training session at the Barbet School of Penalty Taking.

Patience is a virtue
Possess if you can
It's seldom found in women
And never in a football fan

Back the Big Man.
Team Thiago.
Toney mark Two.

Barring a few miscontrols, from slightly overhit passes, I've not seen him look anything other than good for us.

If we sort out the rest of the midfield/attack, which bluntly has been a mess/mish-mash of players (or just playing minutes for fitness if you prefer), then he'll be fine.

Igor Thiago

Yeah - that was LAST season. As far as I know, everyone had a rest at the end of last season - and all started afresh at the start of pre-season training. Surely that levels everyone off.
You don’t half go on mate. Thiago has not built up the levels of fitness enjoyed by others who played through out last season. Remember it took Henry months to catch up

Im confident that Igor the middle, with Dango and Kev on either side will be our quickest and most exciting forward line in my lifetime. (I’m 52.)
If they're better than Schade - Wissa - Mbeumo, then we're going to be top 10 this season easily.

hopefully... but it took Mbuemo two seasons to become prolific. Daamsgard took a while to get his game up to PL standards. Schade too. Taking Fab a while, and Potter hasn't hit the net with alacrity thus far.

This is why Newcastle, Forest and others interested in Mbuemo and Wissa - broken in and PL ready.

Some players do hit the ground running: Toney did.

Schade 25/26 should be better than Schade 24/25.
Thiago imo should be better for the team overall than Wissa.
Dango being better than Mbeumo will be a very tough ask...but he is stronger on almost all defensive stats.

With Henderson, Milambo/Yarmo, Damsgaard behind them...plus last seasons addition of Kayode...we've now added more athleticism/strength into our likely starting XI.

Igor Thiago

What does the money have to do with it? - I've seen two friendlies, and he has looked very poor. That's the facts of what we have seen. There's a long way to go.
You've not seen him alongside Shade or Dando yet.

Igor Thiago

Penalty apart thought he was very poor today
