It’s one game and hopefully the penalty will boost his confidence but I can’t see how anyone can say he was ‘threatening’ today. But then again it was not easy for him with the lack of assitance around him.

Igor Thiago

We must remember two serious injuries and a very limited number of minutes in the premier league. Not many strikers turn up and bang goals in for fun. I'm slightly concerned with his lack of presence and inability thus far to hold the ball up.

I had him down as runner onto Damsgaard assist. Looks like I have that wrong

Igor Thiago

We all desperately want Igor to do well. Of course we do. At the moment he doesn't look to be PL ready. Honestly though, he got FA support today.

I thought he was weak with some heavy touches very early in the game.

A penalty and a good chance brilliantly blocked 1st half. A very good defensive header and a glimpse of some hold up play.

He has probably had one of the better games today ?

Igor Thiago

Struggled today, combination of no support and not doing enough personally as well. I was very frustrated watching him get dominated. Toney doubled up would still have done more. He’s got plenty to give, no doubt, only time he held up the ball was straight after the pen. Maybe he’s a confidence player. I still have faith but maybe a slower burn

Igor Thiago

Not impressed with him today nor any other game I've seen him play for us, doesn't look like a PL striker to me. Hopefully it'll change the more he plays . Still 100% record with shots on goal in his time here

Igor Thiago

It was simply a strikers performance.
Got no service.
Got no support.
Chipped in defending.
Nearly scored from the only chance he was given but for a last ditch goal saving block.
Scored his penalty.

Couldn’t ask for much more when he has nothing whatsoever to work with.

His performance against Newcastle last season, showed he has those attributes. I’m confident that with Damsgaard & Schade playing alongside he will deliver.

Exactly this, he also got way more involved in the last 20 mins with better support and looked sharp. Poor team performance but could have had a brace away from home.

One other worry at the moment with him is he is going to have to play 38 x 90 minutes as it currently stands.
yep. No reserve cf apart from possibly Morgan for early rounds of the cups.

Need a B++ young striker as cover or an old hand like Mee or Henderson but, obviously, a cf.

Igor Thiago

Want it to work , people saying nothing offfered to him but he lost 9 headers today.
He hasn't shown much at all, but he's literally just starting back up after a long term serious injury.

Added to that Brentford today offered him KLP and Carvalho as his supporting wide men, with a debut Milambo alongside Yarmo and Jensen in midfield.

That should soon be Schade and Outtara as fellow attacking players with Damsgaard looking to play through and Henderson keeping an eye on stuff from midfield.

Those lost headers you mention were, from what I recall, long lumped balls with pretty much nobody for him to lay it off to even if he had won them.

Definitely need another forward, not necessarily an out and out number 9, as I believe Outarra can play through the middle as well.

Dango played centrally quite successfully for Bournemouth last season whilst Evanilson was out (it was from there he scored his hattrick against Forest I believe) . Schade could play there too, even Carvalho perhaps as a false 9. I think our cover through the middle is ok, but we do need another attacking player - after Schade, Thiago, Dango and, arguably, Carvalho there's quite a drop off in either quality (KLP) or experience (Nunes and Donovan).

Igor Thiago

One excellent piece of hold up play near the end. Ploughed a lone furrow up front with little service and support

It was noticeable that that bit of play came shortly after his penalty, the goal did his confidence wonders.
Absolutely isolated in that first half he cut a forlorn figure and struggled to win anything against their two centre halves. Had one moment with a blocked shot but often looked a bit slow in thought & deed.
Kept on working though and held his nerve with the penalty.
Give him a forward to run in behind him & off him, give him service in & around the box, get behind him & give him a chance to find his sharpness and he'll do well for us.

It was a sh*te pen....I've been consistent from the beginning I don't rate Thiago and he's a colossal waste of money ?

I certainly wouldn't rush to judge him like that but I agree that I don't like him on penalties. It was predictably awful. I watched back a lot of those he took for Brugge and many were similarly unconvincing. His technique is agricultural. A world away from Toney and Bryan's.

It might of been all of those things but Sels was fooled

He was on his own against arguably the best defensive pairing in the division.

Even if he won a header who was he going to head it to? Nobody was within 30 yards of him.

I’m right behind Keith, but he lost a life yesterday with that awful team selection.

I wrote after watching him in the PAOK Salonika game back in April that if that was his standard, then we've massively overpaid. I predictably got pelters for that. I've now seen him play 5 1/2 games and apart from possibly 45 minutes in the Wimbledon friendly I still see nothing to suggest he's a Premier League striker. Also, for such a big guy his aerial ability is disappointing. However, the Bruges fans did like him a lot after a slow start, so perhaps there is more to come as he adapts. Having better players around him (Schade, Ouattara and Damsgaard) should certainly help. I still wonder whether there was truth in the rumour that FC Bruges were considering legal action over the failed Nusa medical, given the dispute over the medical evidence. The whole transfer process was very odd.

We haven't got Ivan or Bryan now so someone else has to step up. Judging by that cup game, there's several players that can take a decent penalty.
I think Damsgaard might take any more we get but obviously wasn't available yesterday.

It was the safest place to put the ball to get it on target. IMO, it was a penalty of low confidence and nerves.
It looked to me that he and Henderson knew exactly what he was going to do and he did it perfectly!

Igor Thiago

I thought he had a really poor game overall but people bashing him for a penalty he SCORED is ridiculous. He’s low on confidence, desperately trying to get his first goal, and sensibly he’s banked on a keeper diving, as they do 95% of the time, and rolled it down the middle. It was a sensible, good penalty. Might not be as flashy as Ivan / Bryan sitting a keeper down and sending the wrong way, or Said smashing it top corner, but he did the job and hopefully it gives him the boost he desperately needs going into next week.

Exactly, also he has been out for ages and is bound to be feeling the pressure. I'm glad that Dango has come in and taken the record signing tag off his shoulders as well.

We need to back the big man.

Hasn't shown any signs that he is getting over his injuries, hasn't done anything in his short spells last season that makes you think it's going to come, had a pre season and should of been well up for it,
Could see things with Schede in the beginning, and could see that he could come good, haven't seen anything yet
Other than a pre season friendly against AFC Wimbledon,
Please prove me wrong,
