Not sure. Tim Vickery on 5LIVE was explaining how Brazilians are very sniffy about players from smaller PL clubs.

Maybe not but according to Vickery who lives in Brazil and is pretty knowledgeable generally that was very unpopular and it would be "scaling Everest" to get in the WC squad having not done much in Brazil and playing for Brentford. Apparently picking players from Wolves was very controversial.

I would like to say i am surprised, but i am not. It happens in this country so why not Brazil as well.

Don't understand the logic on picking players based on what PL badge they wear.....surely the act of scoring goals and looking a match against UCL competing sides (and their defenders) is what it's all about anyway?

Fully expecting Ancelotti to pick Neymar even though he currently has the gait and look of some shifty looking herbert, smoking a fag outside a Wetherspoons on a weekday morning btw.

They called up Andreas Pereira last season, who was not only playing for Fulham at the time, but is sh*t. There’s definitely a route in for Thiago if he can remain consistent.

so the arguement is all over him not being picked cos some bloke on Talksport who lives out there reckons so ? The Brazilian manager isnt Brazilian is he ?

Mad but not impossible scenario:
-Kane gets injured (touch wood this part doesn't happen)
-Hendo gets selected and gets the captain's armband
-Igor scores 20 in the league and leads the line for Brazil
-Brazil's number 9 and England's captain are current Brentford players in a world cup

Granted Rice or Pickford might get the armband instead of Hendo on the grounds that they actually start, but at least on paper you'd expect Hendo to be the vice captain.

No he isn't but when asked about his job as Brazil coach, he said it was to "keep the President happy".
It's worth listening to that interview with Vickery. You get a sense of why it'll be problematic for IT to be selected. Vickery is a good journalist who really knows his stuff.
I hope on this one, he is proved wrong though.

Maybe as he's played in Brazil which was one of the points made🤷. Although as soon as he's started playing for Chelsea and did well in the cwc Pedro is suddenly starting for Brazil

They have none, that is a big reason that I think he has a legitimate shot at making the team.

Just to add, their largest and most physical forward is Richarlison, listed at 6' tall, 183 lbs. Thiago is listed at 6'2 or 6'3, 187... and plays much more physically.

Currently, you could argue Brazil are the weakest they’ve been certainly in my life time.

At Real Madrid, there’s a young player called Endrick who was predicted to be the next Neymar. But at the moment, he’s not playing much.

Beyond that, you’ve got Richarlison, Evanilson but none that are performing like Igor.

Tim Vickery on TalkSport this afternoon, saying again there will be a lot of resistance in Brazil to Igor being called up.
Once again quoting the "small" club reason.
Ancelotti loves Richarlison. Picked him in every game, but it's last chance saloon as he's not been going well. Up against him is Igor Jesus, but he's been left out of most recent Brazil squad.
So...........if IT carries on doing what he's doing, and those in front of him slip up, it could happen........

Needed a return to Brazil from the desert lg to get that 1st cap, in a WC qualifier in the following November.

It appears that you either have to play in a league of questionable quality (Brasileiro Serie A), or for an elite PL side of questionable quality (Man Utd, Spurs, etc) to be considered for selection purposes.

I'm curious how dogmatic the new president is able to be, and how open to change he is.

I'm not versed in the nuances of CBF politics, but I think every elected president this century has left office embroiled in scandal, with 3 facing lifetime bans from FIFA (in addition to prison time and restitution), one being removed for sexual harassment, and then earlier this year, the president and entire board of directors was removed via court order for forging the signature of the previous president to secure his election bid, and shortly before that was accused of firing dissenters and paying off regional federation bosses across Brazil to secure votes.

One would think that winning would be the most important thing for the new president and would supercede any of the weird political dynamics that led the CBF to get to the place they're at now as a confederation, but the same could have been said after any of the previous scandals. Hopefully this time it means change for the CBF, and with it, Thaigo's path to selection becomes easier! If winning is indeed the most important thing, Thiago is a no-brainer.

Personally, I don't want IT to get a Brazil call up, it's a hell of a long way, and he'll need to be rested after the long journey, then there's more chance of injuries, we're just to reliant on him.

God moves in mysterious ways (like Kayode maybe?) but you'd hope the fella would be able to stick a well struck shot into the bottom corner.

Probably documented in another channel but the problem with his penalty technique is that if the keeper guesses the right way it will get saved. Too central and not enough power, and that’s true for all the pens he’s taken this season. It’s all about winning the game of bluff and if you don’t it looks like a really weak spot kick.

If you look at the likes of Kane and Toney, even if the keeper guesses the right way it’s still going to take a hell of a save to keep it out. Bit of work to do for Igor I think.

Saw enough of him for Club Brugge and various video clips to be excited when he signed and haven’t changed my mind.I not sure how many penalty's he missed for Brugge but I saw him miss a few very similar to how he did yesterday and he got a lot of yellow cards mainly from heading challenges where he used his elbows.He has improved on the discipline side 3 yellows so far needs to smarten up on his penalty technique but his all round game is improving all the time.He will prove to be a better signing than Toney imho.

He’s got more growth potential than Toney and is far quicker too. He works hard and has a lovely technique and great vision- that back heel flick yesterday and the long ball into Dango for the penalty last week.

He really could be a top Champions League calibre striker.

Ideally he refines his penalty taking technique too.

9 goals after 12 games. He’s well on course for north of 20 goals this season.

I wonder how many times a team outside the Big 6 has had 3 different players score 20 goals in a PL season?

Most of his penalties involved a pronounced stutter in the run up during which I assume he senses which way the keeper is going to dive. His first penalty had that pronounced stutter, the second didn't for some reason?

We've been spoiled with Ivan and then Bryan, but that doesn't mean Igor's penalty technique doesn't need a lot of work.

... absolutely.... penalties are a confidence thing..... bordering on arrogance...and IT was the personification of both.... Imo Thiago is still a work in progress in this respect....KA and his coaching staff can help build his confidence and assertiveness.... that's their job.
