OMG that “influencer” who the BBC have adopted as their Brentford “observer” is asking the question “should Igor be benched for Hull?” He eventually concludes “no”, but that’s not a question that needs to be asked in the first place

Last evening Bayern Munich played Harry Kane in attacking midfield. It dragged Arsenal's defence out of position. He worked hard and produced a great through ball for BM's equaliser.

Any mileage in Thiago playing ( occasionally) in a deeper role??? Possibly with Wilson or Schade upfront.
It works because Kane’s passing is up there with the very best on the planet, Igor’s isn’t. We’re also not exactly lacking in attacking midfielders right now - Jensen, Damsgaard, Carvalho fit, Milambo back soon hopefully and KLP even able to play there in an emergency…

Igor Thiago

Good to see him get the assist, but his touch has deserted him and however we dress it up he is bang out of form.

I'd like to see him get a rest and perhaps come on against a tiring defence, giving Wilson a chance from the start.

I just can't see Wilson as a starter. Thiago wasn't good today but got a clever assist and would have scored a tap in were it not for some good goalkeeping.

Igor Thiago

Confidence shot to pieces, he just needs something to fall his way. I don’t want him dropped, he’s far too important to our all round play, press, set pieces and as an outball option. But definitely a case for Wilson to be getting 30 mins in games if he continues to look so toothless in terms of his (lack of) attempts on goal

Igor Thiago

Cannot understand some supporters on here, saying Thiago should be benched he needs a rest this that and others comments. He set himself a high bar after banging in 25 goals last season. Give the guy a break , he needs supporting going through this barren spell. I am sure he will start scoring again sooner rather than later, I rest my case.

Igor Thiago

I am sure it will be an unpopular view but except for the odd game e.g. the Bournemouth - Everton period last season I don’t think the front three has been as effective as it was for much of Frank’s last season.

Specifically regarding Thiago, he is key for us, but it is an issue if he doesn’t even look like getting close to scoring.

Igor Thiago

He does not appear to be getting in positions to receive the ball in the box. At one point Dango put in a cross and he moved closer to the defender and away from where the ball was going.

Igor Thiago

I thought Thiago did pretty well against 3 centre backs with very little support, although his touch was often dire. We really need to find a way to get players close to him with more speed – he can't do it all by himself. Ouattara does make some odd decisions but he never gave up, while Kayode was good value for entertainment in poor conditions.

It's difficult to comprehend Kelleher's brain meltdown... I hope we don't see anything like that again. Unbeaten away and on to the next one.

Igor Thiago

Then you must be blind. He’s bang out of form but to suggest that he doesn’t put the hard yards in is ludicrous
He does seem to be going wide and looking to create for others rather than being the main man. Not sure whether that's under orders, or reflecting a lack of confidence in his ability in front of goal.

Igor Thiago

This season was always going to a tough season after last years. Lots of people wondering if he’s a one season wonder. As someone already mentioned don’t think the World Cup help his confidence. He works very hard for the team. He just needs a lucky break and then the goals will start to come 🐝

No he didn’t, it was very good defending he was never going to get in front of him

Igor Thiago

I am definitely in the ‘let’s be patient with Tiago’ camp BUT today he was bloody useless. One assist does not excuse a level of ineptness that is causing us to misfire up front. I will be patient and keep the faith but it does not disallow calling out a crap performance. And please no one mention his confidence or lack of it. In my long years of working I was never able to explain away a f… up by saying ‘oh but my confidence is low’ . I knew where that one would lead

Needs to work through it. Wilson isn't an adequate replacement - a case could be made for Schade, Outarra and Anthony but I'd rather Igor kept going.
Why can't Wilson play 60 minutes? He is a proven PL goalscorer and it might give IT a bit of a breather and reset.

Giving him a break is exactly what I'm suggesting 😆 it's not writing him off!

Yeah, thought a couple of times he needed to feint and then get in front of his marker to get on the end of the crosses coming in

Frankly I don't think he could do the job we ask Igor to do.

Of course it was a tough gig in elite lower middle management

Haha this thread is about Igor not me. There really is no need to be personal and rude,my opinion like yours is totally valid and inconsequential.

Igor Thiago

A good assist but doesn't look dangerous Infront of goal, touch is off and he looks slow. Take away last seasons pens and he prob is realistically a 10 goal a season striker and that'll probably be what he gets from open play this 🤷 I'd keep playing him but not on weds.

Igor Thiago

Igor is doing lots of good things but this is also correct. His touch has abandoned him right now.

Need to get this back on track ASAP.
Thing is mate, thats the natural element of a players ability that shouldnt abandon him.

Shockingly bad at times recently.

Hes getting no support of service tho.

Really think he needs a session or two with Michael Caulfield, the sports psychologist.

It all seems to be about a total lack of confidence. People said, "Wait till he gets a goal and he'll be back to normal." Well, he did against Chelsea. He's getting gradually worse.

No doubting he needs time, but despite me being reminded earlier that we are the 3rd highest scorers in the league, I maintain that our attack has looked very out of sorts, with the exception of the Spurs, Chelsea & Leeds games. Worryingly, against Sunderland & Hull, both sides I'm expecting to be nearer the bottom, we've looked toothless.

He is working hard and the team is grinding out points. Nowhere near his or our potential I would suggest.

Igor Thiago

I wonder if the whole Brazil experience and how he was hung out to dry by his nation and dumped by Ancelotti has affected him more than we assumed it would. I've never seen anyone so proud and excited like a kid to be called us, so perhaps the rejection has shaken him to the core?
I honestly don't think it's helping him to leave him struggling out on the pitch for 90 plus minutes every game. Wilson is there to take some of the load and is being seriously underused in my opinion. Start Wilson on Wednesday. Thiago might come on as a sub with the pressure off and bag a couple of goals, which would change the narrative.
I'm not in any way writing Igor off. He's a big part of our future but keeping him so much in the firing line ATM isn't helping him or us.

Igor Thiago

I got slammed on here for saying he wasnt clinical enough in front of goal towards the back end of last season. I appreciate he does alot of work for the team but for me has to be used as a sub next game. We have other options.

When has he had the opportunity to fail to be “clinical”?

Igor Thiago

He's not exactly getting much service, he seems to be the one creating chances recently

This, he’s getting f*** all service. That midfield three set up offered nothing, Schade and Dango, those two don’t have a clue what they are going to do next so not sure how Igor is meant to anticipate that.
Igor needs Damsgaard to play.

Good point. KA talks about chaos and how that can be effective - and I see that - but it is sometime difficult to see what our default pattern of play is. Perhaps a bit too much off the cuff happening. I seem to recall that Justin Cochrane spent a lot of time working with our forwards so maybe we miss that a bit. Damien Duff's job? Who knows, I have no insight.

A couple suggesting whether he could do with a 'rest' - which i suspect is a kind way of saying dropped.

It's not as though he isn't contributing nothing, crossed for KLP last week and set up Dango's today. I just think, especially when you're a striker, the only thing worse than playing through a dry patch is being dropped. Put it this way, if his experience at Brazil was damaging it'll only be exacerbated by us selecting Wilson over him.

I do think it speaks volumes that only a few games ago starting Jaidon over Dango was hardly inconceivable and in the last couple he's arguably been our biggest threat. In other words, none of the front three have managed to eek out any consistency so far this season. Kev was coming closest to a good start, but it's just not clicking right now.
