Igor Thiago (24 Viewers)

To be honest I am sick of hearing about his confidence. He was poor in the games at the end of last season and poor this season. Time to put his big boy pants on and do what he is paid for and what we are paying for.

He was very good against Spurs, Villa, brilliant at Leeds and top performance v Chelsea. Basically in the games Brentford played really well, he was good.

Blimey. If you’re that sick, maybe you can put on your own big boy pants. You are paying to be a supporter, so support?

Thiago has incredible mental strength. He’s working hard for the team, getting in good positions, and the goals will follow.

[Gee Bee]

Despite supposedly having a poor game he could have easily bagged a hat trick. I’d be more concerned if we weren’t creating chances or he wasn’t in positions to score or miss.

I struggled to get in to my work trousers this morning. So that will cover it and he will get a brace on Saturday.

He also has 3 goals in 10 games? and bagged a few in pre season. He missed a pen which wasn't a terrible pen and yeah he missed some chances. This could so easily be a season where everyone is saying what a striker, small margins

It’s my opinion , as valid and inconsequential as yours.

I think Igor's confidence was badly affected by his treatment at The World Cup by Ancelotti.IT must have been so excited to start for Brazil in the first game,he missed one easy chance, played ok otherwise & was subbed & never got another chance.
It must have been a huge disappointment to him.

You said you were sick of hearing other opinions

[Freebee]

He had a barren spell at Brugge and he came through it just like he will this time.

[gbems92]

As long as he is always trying and getting in the right positions then he deserves to be backed and I don't think anyone can fault his commitment, it's just not clicking for him at the moment. He's getting the same sort of stick schade got in parts last season from people who don't acknowledge the graft he puts in and trouble he causes defenders. There's more to being a great striker than just scoring goals. God forbid he got injured I think only then would people appreciate what he brings to the team

No I did not.

Thiago’s levels of confidence is an opinion, and you said you are sick of hearing about it. Apologies if I have misunderstood.

There may be more to being a great striker than scoring goals BUT scoring goals is a core requirement hence the title striker. I cheer and sing his name but I also think when do we get some return on the scoresheet.

[brentfordfc4ever]

Struggling still but out number 9 has started to score goals. Looked so full of confidence after that goal.

[andyrew]

Looked like the Forest defenders wanted to swap shirts half way through the second half.

What more does he have to do to get free kicks.

It’s absolutely insane.

Ridiculous. Referee finally grew a pair and gave Thiago a free kick after the 90th minute in injury time…

[Chomp]

I don’t know what I’m delighted with most; To score in two successive matches or to shut the moaners up.

For me Clive, I’m all about the positivity.

Onwards and upwards we go.

Needs to take some pointers from our previous I.T... no-one drew a foul like Toney

[BFC1997]

2 goals and an assist in last three games

Finally got awarded a free kick in the 80 something minute, but this happens in every game.

PGMOL have clearly had some sort of talk and are completely overcompensating.

He’s obviously a big striker and gets in amongst it but the way he is treated is disgraceful. He gets penalised for very soft fouls pretty much instantly but hardly wins anything even when clear and obvious fouls are made against him and even when he does win the free kick the referees are visibly very hesitant. It’s getting to the point where it’s silly and the reaction of both Igor and Keith Andrews today towards the officials says it all.

I do wonder if there is any channel the club has into PGMOL as a matter of recourse.

[North London Bee]

I posted last week that he was the most penalised player in the league last season and won free kicks around a third of the times he was penalised. A staggering statistic. Nobody else was anywhere near this disparity

I'm just pleased for him. It's been so hard for him this season with the lack of protection and the lack of consistency of decisions for and against him. His frustration is clear but let's hope a day like today will hit all the right spots

[londondude]

I apologise Igor, I wanted Callum to start today, but you proved us wrong.

Hope this is the start of a great season

[aslan]

Was that TWO freekicks won today? Can't believe neither of them were a yellow, neither could he judging by his reaction.
He should have had an absolute minimum of 5 though, agree with @BFC1997 that something has been said between refs as it's absolutely disgusting what defenders get away with against him versus what he's penalised for.

Remember all those people posting in the pre match thread to start Wilson? Humbled.

It's a massive reminder that you can watch all the Football you want, and still not understand Football.

We were amazed that Milenkovic often had both hands on Thiago's shoulders when trying to jump for a forward ball – how do the officials not see this?

One of Thiago's 'hidden values' is that defenders focus on him, most often having one centre back up his ar*** all game; this give more freedom to our other attackers. Both of our goals yesterday were the result (in addition to our play!) of Milenkovic looking for Igor instead of understanding how play was developing as we got wide behind their centre back line.

[ianbee]

Had a discussion driving to the match yesterday about the way Thiago is treated by refs. There were a couple of fouls on him yesterday that defy belief they weren't given. He only has to touch a defender and it is a free kick. Interesting that after the game he shook all of their 3 defenders hands and gave them a hug. Says a lot about him. Was surprised the ref didn't yellow card him

[JANORAK]

I hadn’t realised, until seeing yesterday’s highlights, that Igor was close enough to have scored the first goal as well. He left it alone as it was already going in..

Nah, was already over the line by the time he got there.

I wish more people would understand this

Also, had he touched it, it may have been disallowed as he threw the defender to the floor going for it

And he might have put it over the bar- just saying.

I have watched football, mainly Brentford, for my entire life, plus playing for a big chunk of it, and I am a good age. I am amazed at the ability of many posters who can analyse matches, unpick, and explain tactics. Indeed there are several GPG posters who after a game I specifically look for to see what have to say about the match just gone and individual players. Often what they have written adds to my enjoyment, and appreciation of the contribution of individual players. Thiago being just one.
