I'm pretty sure when Blake was loaned out, he was first played out of position (left wing) and then got injured, so perhaps his example was a combination of a bad choice of loan club by Scott, and bad luck?

Two years ago in the pre-season friendly against Palace, Blake looked stunning at left back. Since then he's disappeared, almost without trace. I don't know why, but it should be a warning to Reeves to keep his feet on the ground. If he does, the world can be his lobster.

Could look at it the other way and say Bean and Kev have already proved they are L1 quality and Uwe wanted to give Reeves the "acid test" against quality oppo to see if he can hack it in L1. Uwe may now be able to tick the box and give Reeves his chance. I thought Kev and Bean looked good when they came on, especially as Stoke were having a decent spell at that time and the Bees needed to settle after all the subs that had been made which makes things harder.

Everyone has there opinion but looking when Bean and KOC came on against both Hampton and Stoke we looked worse and dont believe they are league one quality. Bean is nowhere good enough for league one for me and KOC is only marginally better. IMO

He was brilliant on Friday along with Logan was the best player on the pitch.

Both Bean and KOC are both good enough for League 1 IMO, just maybe not for a team challenging to get out of it. Both did fine when they came on against Stoke but lack the technical ability of the two they replaced. Neither will be first choice this season but will both feature during the season and will provide sound back-up.

Think that sums it up well. Very good players to have in reserve and just shows the quality we have.

This is going to appear harsh .If we want to go up why not replace Bean and KOC with players with better technical ability so the team isnt weakened if the other pairing isnt available ?

I thought Reeves was excellent as well but if any GPG'er thinks that he his going to play 46 League 1 games plus another 8-10 Cup games and six friendlies in his first season and at 17 then they are deluded.
Donaldson has not scored yet so something about the system is not suiting him so I expect to see some tweaks to the team yet like getting Legge to pass to a Bees player and keeping his passes that are longer than 5 yards on the pitch, like getting Woodman to underhit his passes and crosses, to get Saunders to stop thinking that he can whip crosses like Beckham and to get a system that gets the best out of Weston McDonald and Donaldson from an early point in the season. Hope to see a front three at some point in pre season and Tuesday would be an ideal opportunity to do it.

Your right, last year I thought he looked useful in the friendlies, this year at 18, I would like to think he could do a job! Not saying he will play every game, but would hope we use a talent like his! What did they say to Sir Alex? Something about winning nothing with kids.........

As for your Donaldson point - how many goals has the team scored with him on the pitch? Think he is fitting in well thank you!

Must start against Yeovil. Didn't start to play football tonight until he came on. Looks class. Has time and composure on the ball.

Jake Reeves

If he doesn't start ahead of Bean and Kev I will be distraught! He adds so much to the way we play and with Douglas in the side there is simply no need for Kev or Bean.

Jake Reeves

I haven't seen him play, but based on what I've read, could he be the next 'Dale Jennings'?

I mean, could he be watched bigger clubs and be moving on in 12 months... or is he going to be talked about like that southampton guy chamberlain??

Jake Reeves

He's rubbish. A show pony. Can't pass A lightweight. Over-rated. A dwarf. Move along. Nothing to see here. Next.

Jake Reeves

Been very impressed with what I've seen. He could play a big part this season. Feet on the ground though.

Jake Reeves

Think he's odds on to start v Yeovil.

Hope so mate, absolute class. Him and JD will be some pairing imho. Daves comeback in 2-3 months will also give us the chance to rest Jake if the need arises.

Jake Reeves

He won't play a full season for us, don't kids always fade in their first go at this, very pleased to see that it seems that most people now realise that KOC and Bean must be bit part at best.

I think most people realised we needed better midfield players .
As regards KOC , i agree but still would prefer him to Spillane at right back should Logan be out injured/suspended. Think he will only play in the middle if we are well short there. I am very much hoping that JD, JR and Dave stay fit.

As for Bean who knows.

Toumani is injured Nick

I know mate, i mean once he is back i hope we are lucky for the rest of the season. Midfield is key for us this year and can't afford for any more bad luck in that area imo.

Jake Reeves

Only realised when I saw him last night (my first game this season) that he was the lad who played first half against Fulham last year. I remember being impressed then, mostly at the shock of seeing a central midfielder pushing forward himself rather than looking to pass it out to the wings. I look forward to seeing more of this novel tactic.

article on Chronicle, Rosler says JR is a serious option for midfield.

Jake Reeves

he has been rejected by no less than eight clubs ---- strange as he looks the dog's whatsits.

Might have been down to his size just like Jay Tabb. The bloke is quality though, reckon we will offer him a lenghty contract if he continues to impress once the leauge is under way.

Jake Reeves

Jake Reeves

where did you find that from?

Rejected From the age of 12-16 (IIRC) from West Ham, Spurs, Millwall, Charlton, Southampton, Norwich, Birmingham and Blackpool. For being too small.

Barca like them small aswell...:sorted:

The Doc (Tommy Docherty), @Chelski in the 1960s used to say ' if you're good enough, you're old enough'.

In Jake's case, we hope that if he's good enough, he's also big enough...

Jake Reeves

first time ive seen him and was very impressed, good touch, awareness, passing, looks very comfortable on the ball, cant believe we wasted our time with some of those loan players last seasom when he was here

Jake Reeves

He's a year older now than he was then (I did mathematics ;)) and he needs to be eased into the run of things or we'll burn him out. I actually hope that he does not play anything like half our games this season as we need him in the longer term.

Probably a year too soon. I feel Uwe will use him with care this season.

Jake Reeves

hardly a year when we had the likes of Reed in about March but i do agree he needs time and to be managed properly but if he's good enough he should play

Not sure if its my imagination, but he has got a bit taller since he played v Fulham at the begining of last season. He didnt seem as small as I rememberd him. Played well yesterday though.

Played a lot better in some of the friendlies, think the occasion was a bit much yesterday but he'll only get better.

He wasnt as good yesterday as he was against Stoke (the only friendly i saw) but he more than held his own and it was a solid debut. Would you play him at Sheff Utd?

I didn't see any of the friendlies. I thought he was a revelation. Why wouldn't you play him at Sheff U ? After he came off, the midfield lost its bite. I agree that he needs to be managed physically and it may be that Uwe doesn't play him twice in a week or for full games in consecutive matches but he has to start every game IMO until Dave is fit. Then it will be very interesting in terms of competition.

Jake Reeves

He played a more cautious game against Yeovil but not surprising given it was his league debut and first game of the season. He did well though and fits neatly into UR's way of playing.

My guess is he will rest him against Hereford but slot him in again against SU. When the young Forrester is match fit I guess he will be competing for a place with him.

Would be tempted to start Kev against Sheffield United rather than Reeves but hopefully he gets another run out on tuesday night.

Jake Reeves

Why change a winning team?

Agreed. I think when it comes to Sheffield Utd you've got to be brave. Unless we're going there for a point I don't see how you can't play him. By all means bring on Kev to partner Douglas later on if we want to tighten things up but without Reeves we'll lack that forward thrust in the centre IMO.
