We still fundamentally have a league one defense playing in the Championship. JT is our best defender IMO and is needed back.

Don't agree at all, we have defended well most games, we've conceded more than a few goals trying to play football from the back, it's going to happen when teams press us high.
We've still won 50% of matches in the first half of the season.

James Tarkowski -

Plus the 4 have done really well, they have buckled slightly under pressure from a decent and beastly forward or two and things probably need changing, I wouldn't knock the efforts of the 4 thus far.

Completely agree. The back six even, if we're including Button and Tarks, they've all played their part and look every bit as though they belong in the Championship. To suggest otherwise is very wrong IMO.

James Tarkowski -

Which one does he replace against Wolves?

Dean or Craig?

Interesting to see that general opinion is that it's Craig who gets dropped. Maybe I am blinkered but I thought Dean started very nervously today and whilst he improved as the game went on, for me its not clear cut. Do agree that Tarks needs to start though.

James Tarkowski -

If he does come in I hope he is up to speed and match fit ..when you have not been in competitive games for a while I imagine you are not as focused. He could of done with a half or twenty mins yesterday....

James Tarkowski -

The reality is that defensive shortcomings have been masked by the quality of our attacking. We've been conceding too many goals in recent away games (2 per game) and the defence has sometimes have looked very porous. I thought a bad day at home couldn't be far off. The current pairing are more lower Championship/top League One than top Championship, and if we want to progress we need a tighter defence. Tarkowski one could imagine playing in the Premiership in the future: could one really say the same of TC and Harlee? We must get tighter at the back if we are to maintain a challenge, and I'm not surprised that it's rumoured we have been looking at new options. In the meantime, Tarks must come back in (should have happened a few games back, after the very dodgy second half at Millwall), though who should be dropped is debatable.

James Tarkowski -

Dean was poor, but Craig was just terrible all round.

Tarkowski and Dean need to be given a chance together.

We'll find out very soon if Warbs uses his squad ???

James Tarkowski -

He should be able to get game time in the nxt couple of matches with one a cup game. See how he goes from there. Has great ability - his turn now.

Well if he doesn't his manager speak of "we must utilise the squad" is going to look very silly.

Plus we'll have 5 or 6 players cream crackered by March.

I was surprised he didn't get a run out yesterday. Dosn't bode well for our trip to Molinuex if he cant get 20 minutes in a game we where never going to win after the first 45 minutes, and all we could do is cut our loses.

Was suggested in Bees player post match that he is been saved for the cup and might not even get a start tomorrow. I hope this isn't the case, because we need some fresh ideas in defense quickly. Or is there something else afoot here and he is on the bench for other reasons.

Whilst Beesplayer will have people with more knowledge of the club then us, they are merely speculating as unless Warburton has told them that is the case, and I'd be amazed if he had decided his team for Sunday at that point so who knows.

What I will say is if he doesn't start tomorrow the sh*t will hit the fan from me!

James Tarkowski -

I think Warbs substitutions yesterday were an acknowledgement that the game was gone and that he was looking to the Wolves game just 48 hrs away. He didn't see the point in tiring Andre for another 20 odd minutes, Douglas already had a problem before the game and to have taken either Harlee or TC off would have been to publically blame one of them for the situation which is hardly Warb's style. It would have been nothing short of humiliating for whoever came off and done nothing for the players confidence. I will be surprised if Tarks doesn't start at Wolves though.

James Tarkowski -

No stats or figures to back this up, just pure gut feeling but I really think a Dean and Tarky partnership would be rather good.

Maybe but it is not about the two best players but the best combination and for that I will leave to Warbs but have a feeling he may go for TC and JT. I rate all three players but worry that all of them can get done for pace which may be why we are looking at other CBs it would seem.

Is John Terry pacey. Was Bobby Moore pacey. If you have a footballing brain and a good understanding with your team mates that more than makes up for pace in my opinion.

James Tarkowski -

We all have our opinions. This is mine, I have been wanting to have JT several games ago especially after the Huddersfield game when TC was especially poor. I hope MW selects JT/HD combination against Wolves. In any case I will be there supporting my beloved Bees.

If I were Tarks I would be disappointed if not chosen today. He has waited for his chance and although TC and HD did not cover themselves in glory last game out it has to be Craig who is rested as his performances have been below par for several games recently. Really dont think it is a tough decision, but that is what should happen imo. Craig should not be spared just because he is the captain or has a left foot. The time has come for Tarks to be given his chance simple as that.

I'd be surprised and annoyed if Tarks isn't in the starting line up today.

James Tarkowski -

We haven't won a single game with tarks in defense against the top 2/3rds of the table.

Yes and Nick Proschwitz has been on the pitch a lot of the time when we've scored last minute winners. Lets drop Gray and play him based on that stat.

I think Craig picked up his 5th booking yesterday so wont he be suspended ?

No. See the other yellow peril thread

James Tarkowski -

Tarky looked a bit rusty today which is understandable. Did ok apart from the own goal and one back pass. Needs games to be back to his level.

James Tarkowski -

Proved over the last two games he's not ready. Craig and Dean currently our best CB partnership. Will be massively unjust if he keeps his place over Harlee next week.

James Tarkowski -

I'm not so sure. Lovely piece of defending first half when it was 2 v 1. Harlee seemed to turn into arm up Tony Adams today !

He's the most cultured of the three, no argument, but sadly he's the least effective

James Tarkowski -

Probably the most abysmal performance by any Centre Back this season. And throw in the customary booking as well. We may need another option but anyone thinking Dean and Tarkowski together works after watching that debacle is on drugs.

James Tarkowski -

Some real kamikaze moments today, far from the finished article. Way too casual at times and probably his worst 90 in a Bees shirt?
So much potential but needs to address his weaknesses if he is to cement a starting berth. If it can't be coached out of him he'll not progress as far in the game as he should/could imo

Agreed. He's got huge ability, but a mixture of poor decision making and casualness could've lead to goals on at least three separate occasions. That can't happen if he wants to command a regular starting spot.

James Tarkowski -

Warbs has made the right choice of not playing him with Craig.. Harlee it is..

James Tarkowski -

I suppose playing out of position doesn't help him greatly.

Two right sided centre halves doesn't work.

James Tarkowski -

His decision making is still poor and his fancy Dan moments always eventually lead to mistakes and chances for the opposition. I'm not sure the great potential will be realised here.

James Tarkowski -

I agree he made some daft decisions today (not the first time) but he has a lot of promise and some are overreacting a bit.

James Tarkowski -

I think people are forgetting how good this guy is. I reckon with a run of games he will prove himself-shane he didn't step up to the mark today though.

James Tarkowski -

Not many players are "match sharp" after only two games.

No one is denying his class and potential - his overall defensive play was very good and he put in a cracking tackle 1 vs 1 in the first half.

However the mistakes he made weren't from a lack of sharpness, he just made several poor decisions when in possession and the simple option was needed.

James Tarkowski -

Just give him a run of games and we'll reap the rewards. Class will come through; same with Odubajo -- they're both young and will sometimes make more errors than more experienced pros.

I am a big fan of James and his potential to progress in his career is huge however....... as PJ has stated above he needs to address his weakness's or his career will not move forward. Today he has was so laid back he was almost horizontal and his lapses in concentration were highlighted. From where i was standing on Ealing Road his booking looked harsh and if he can address the lapses and silly bookings he will be a very good player. He made a fantastic tackle today as they went towards goal and it is a shame some of the errors overshadowed this.

Exactly. Tarky needs games. He has basically spent the last two months doing nought with no match time under his belt. Worst game I have ever seen him play tbh.

James Tarkowski -

In the first half he made a fantastic goal saving tackle. Second half his legs got tired and he made two very very poor decisions.

Agree, massive Tarks fan but he needs to keep his concentration at all times and avoid being as casual as he was on numerous occasions today.
Thought the booking looked really harsh.

James Tarkowski -

He needs to learn to stop tackling with his foot up because referees come down heavily on this even when he wins the ball.
And he was caught in possession far too often in the second half.
Very disappointing today, done himself no favours at all.
