I am right with you mate, Reading are sucm. They have raped Brentford for years, paying crap money. Good luck Tabby, my fav player of all time.

bollox have they, just seen Smiffy's post, which answers your 'rant'. I suggest you contact Mr Allen and ask why he let Tabb and Hunt go, to name two players to have left here.

Pretty sure Tabb said he would only sign a new contract for us if we got promoted that year :waves:

Jay Tabb

Without a squad half full Brentford players, Reading would not be in the Premier/Championship yo-yo :sorted:

Sorry, but no matter how "kind" Reading have been to us, they have benefited far more from our personnel than we have from theirs...
Nice to see the GPG back to it's best!

Surely, it was Coppell who was building a team at BFC to get into the Championship; he was elbowed out; went to Brighton; then to Reading; up to the Premiership; down to the Championship... so he's building a team that will work well at that level and get them back to the Prem. He's going to recruit players he knows will do a job but most of them have not come directly from Brentford.

We should be quite proud of that legacy.

I hope your not trying to suggest that Tabb was responsible for his own departure. He wasn't.

If Martin Allen had offered him a contract when he should have done he always said he would have signed one. By the time Allen got around -half-heartedly - it was too late UNLESS we went up. In which case he always said he would have stayed.

I always felt that Martin Allen was a bit anti-Tabb because he was the only 'threat' to MA's status as 'number one' in the Bees fans affection. Imho he was a bit jealous of Tabby's reputation and status amongst Bees fans. :fishing:

and we got nothing out of it at all ?

swings and roundabouts........I'd say only Hunt and Downes have made telling contributions in Reading's recent rise to being a "yo-yo" club......(of the list that went to Reading from Brentford !)

We didnt exactly miss Hunt, the season after he left and I don't recall many "Bring Back Wally" posters, in the Allen years

Sonko was a huge player in that Championship winning romp.:nono:
Ivar was Mr MVP and a 7.5 out of ten merchant from what I recall.
They haven't raped us but they've down pretty well out of us, their help to us has been massive and received with thanks. Paul Brooker and Ricky Newman spring to mind.;)

Hasn't an ex BFC Icelandic CB been linked to them lately?

I only notice the ones that score goals, they are good.... defenders always make mistakes and keepers are the worse, as they always get the blame :fishing:

Its easy for anyone to say that after something hadn't been offered. It was a very polictically correct statement that Tabb made imho. :fishing:

do we still get 10% of that?

Figure I have seen quoted was £750k, which should mean 750-100=650 10% to us should be £65k, but it has been stated that this has to go to reduce debt.

Nice one. I don't really hold any grudges with Reading as they are basically the Brentford B team and have been very good to us in recent years. Thank gawd he didn't go to the scum up the road.

Good career move and I wish him all the best at Reading under Mr Coppell. Hope to see him playing in the Premier League next year and putting 3 past Fulham :sorted:
:imwith: i'll go with that.

One move i don't begrudge him at all, will be rooting for Reading to get into the Premiershite now :sorted:

Yes, but is this the guaranteed element of the fee or does it include all the performance related bonuses (assuming that there are any).

I think it all goes to show that "undisclosed" is exactly that and that journalists are just as prone to making numbers up as posters on here!

On this matter can I ask a question abee?

If we receive a relatively small amount of money, hypothetically say £30,000 from the Tabb deal would this go towards the debt, even though it would hardly put a dent in it?
As opposed to financing an emergency loan/transfer for Bowditch for example that arguably could save our season and thus improve the chances of reducing the debt further by getting promotion etc.

This is a genuine question before any Banging heads against the wall smilies appear ;) , I am not knowledgeable about the in and outs of the debt situation.

:nono:

No it won't.

It will reduce our debt/losses for the season. :sorted:

Excellent.

With that logic, why don't you just go and budget for the 50 fans from Morecambe, Accrington, Chester, Bury etc next season.

Instead of the 3000 from Leeds, Charlton and possibly Norwich etc.

I know times are tight, but I don't ****ing care, its not like we are spending a six figure transfer fee. Its an emergency that needs to be deal with.

50 * 15 (rounded up to include juniors etc) = £750

3000 * 15 = £45000.

Sometimes the bigger picture includes speculating to accumlate, even if it has ****ed us over in the past.

I'm fed up of this lack of ambition. :mad1:

Furthermore no I do not know how many tickets we can offer away fans. I'm using 3000 as a ball park figure to make a point (and yes Leeds aren't going up and yes Charlton are down).

I'm sure the FA appeals Commity will have a look into this and overturn the payment of any funds that are due to Brentford.

I think Lokster was just stating the facts, as he sees / understands them...don't shoot the messenger.
There is a case for splashing out on a decent striker, in the window, especially with the recent Elder suspension looming for the next 4 games.

However, BU must balance gambling on a new player, who wasnt in Andy's plans in July / August and playing safe to ensure, the club are still here in September 2009.

The main job AS and TB must do, in the next 2 weeks, is ship the high unwanted wage earners out, at minimum cost to the budget, in order to allow space for a new player to come in.

It's not a lack of BU ambition, it's examples like Leeds / Luton / Rotherham / Bournemouth that we shouldnt follow (ie, spend what we havent got)

Well fine.

I'd like to have a football club in ten years and not be picking up the mess from an attempt to get out of League Two.

I'm not sure if you're aware of our financial position. This isn't a game. This isn't about ambition. We could be as ambitious as we like if we don't care about the consequences. Andy Scott was given his budget at the start of the season and it is one of the bigger ones in this division - if I understand correctly. It is a s**t or bust budget in the first place.

I also don't know if you've noticed that we're in the middle of a credit crunch. Do you really think there are people out there falling over themselves to buy Brentford FC. I can think of one person who might. So if no one buys us we'll have to go into next season struggling over finances again.

I'd rather bank whatever additional money we get now if it is going to help us long term.

However as I write abee may be in the process of writing a cheque out for Andy Scott to spend on Bennett or Bowditch....

I wonder what the difference might be between another season in Div 2 and one in Div 1. Do you think it would be more or less than £5k (which might be the cost of a forward for a month)?

IMO, extra years spent in Div 2 will kill the club far quicker than £5k on a forward now.

I agree, getting a decent striker in on loan even on high wages (preferably Bowditch as he has an understanding with Charlie) would be worth the risk.
With Williams or Ademola upfront it could be Marcus Gayle at Left back times again

I don't.

However I'm clearly going to be in a minority.

I think we've got a good enough team, even without Elder.

I'm sure there are people on the GPG with a better idea of our finances than me though so perhaps everything isn't as bleak as I think it is.

Sorry can't agree with you there. Ademola is untested as much as I would love him to come good and Williams is not really the greatest striker.
The only reason this is worth a go IMHO is that it would be bonus money from Tabb that we would not have known we would have? Unless there is a condition that says any monies must go on the debt, I wouldn't know.
But on the windfall principle surely it can't hurt if the money is not already earmarked

Jay Tabb

Sorry LOKster but wether you like it or not we need a forward now ,and to comeout with that old spill that bfc need to pay off our debt. Well that old comment needs to be put to bed ,we want Promotion this season and not sitting on our jacks next season in division two .No wonder all the old catchphrases come out you dont want to go up its time to be positive and give AS 100% not short change him once again

It's very easy to say these sorts of things when you're not one of those individuals who's a) owed any money by BFC or b) charged with finding the money to pay said monies back.

I don't think Andy can pull rabbits out of the hat on each occasion.

I am not sure he has the greatest record of signing / recruiting match winning players either....the last two loanees were sent packing pretty sharpish, after a grand total of about 30 mins on the pitch between them.

I am sure the board will back him, on condition that he reduces some of the current budget spent on wages, at the same time as he brings someone in.

Jay Tabb

Owlsmoor bee would you like promotion this year to div 1. If the answer is yes sometimes you have to take a gamble, and we have never had a better chance than now sitting in second spot and a great defensive record, only now to loose a centre forward of Nathan s capabilities is a bloody farce. To then be told no loanee to take his place because no funds, when with Tabb's transfer out of the blue, which we have benefited from makes you wonder somewhat???????

I am very aware of the credit crunch as I work in risk for a major bank. The main part of my day is spent working out whether an investment is worth taking on or not.

While it would be easy at times to just shut up shop (espeically right now), on everything and say well ok, we can't risk something, at times you have to realise that, while it may cause a short term damage, you will get a lot more out of risking a small investment.

Too me signing Bowditch would be a small investment, and yes it is a risk, however with only Charlie McDonald and Moses Ademola (who Andy Scott does not seem to be in Andy Scott plans) fit, I don't think we have a choice. As in all honesty four games is a long time to put too much pressure on Mcdonald, who has played pretty much every game this season and works his b***ocks off. Espeically as those four games come in the space of around 10 days I believe.

While Andy Scott was given a budget too work with. External factors do on occassions have to be taken into account.

Firstly I'm sure our FA Cup run generated more money then was budgeted for.

Secondly I'm sure the Jay Tabb windfall was not budgeted for.

Thirdly I believe our attendance are above what was budgeted for.

Fourthly in recent games due to our good run our attendances have been rising.

Now to me an out lay of around 40 thousands pounds for Bowditch (I would assume that would cover his wages for half a season) for the season, would be a justifable risk, as I believe that

A) We could use SOME of the money we recieved from the FA Cup money. Not all of it. Or we could just use the Jay Tabb money, as it was not budgeted for, and as he was out of contract in the summer anyway, there was a strong chance we would not have got anything.

B) We will get higher attendances in the later part of the season, due to the signfiance of the games, and the fact that the clubs are winning which would cover some of the 40K, used on Bowditch wages.

C) As mentioned in my intial post, one game against Leeds next season, instead of against Morecambe would probably cover the 40k spent already and any more money raised next season, would all be profit.

D) In my opinion if the club stays in this division for 2 or 3 more years, our average attendance will drop below the 3500 mark.

To me the pros of loaning Bowditch outweigh the negatives signifcantly.

Some pretty good reasons for some the chance being taken for additional expenditure to hopefully give us every chance for promotion this season.

On the other hand I am sure there are going to be some good reasons not to spend the extra money as well.

But at the end of the day i feel that those making the decision knowing all the facts and figures will make the the correct one for the club in the long run.

O go on then. I'm convinced. Signing Bowditch (actually I'd rather we signed Bennett for the rest of the season but...) will definitely get us promoted so what are we waiting for.

Get that chequebook out abee/Greg...otherwise lack of ambition will condemn us to another season in League Two and then we'll have no supporters at all. Lack of ambition. Typical Brentford.
