Jo Kuffour

I believe (abee will put me right) that he signed for 1 year but we have the option of another year. That means, as far as I understand, that he can't go anywhere until we've decided on the option.

Chill.

This was one of the posts I could not previously be bothered to look up.

Jo Kuffour

I'm very confused with what you are saying, for a change.

The club has the option on Kuffour, no-one has any idea of the terms, but the one thing for sure is that we don't need to do anything now.

He can't walk for free, if we have offers we take up the option, if he gets a long term injury we can renogotiate or let him walk and if we go down and have to cut our cloth we might not be able to afford him.

Too often we have taken early decisions on contracts and tied our hands budget wise, you are proposing doing the same thing now when it is completely unneccesary. It's nonsense.

If we sign him for an extra year today and he gets an 18 month injury tomorrow how foolish will we look.

 This was one of the others.

Jo Kuffour

Accept no less than £750,000 and no stupid clauses lol

what about sensible clauses, like goals scored bonus for the club...further International Caps......promotion bonus.....seem sensible to me

Jo Kuffour

I remember everyone saying that there was an option and also seem to recall Leroy saying it on Beesworld!
Has anyone got access to the interview as I am no longer active.;) I realise this changes nowt if we don't have it in writing but I'm sure he said this.

Jo Kuffour

Yes, I was under the impresssion we had an option. If we don't it's  to Jo come the summer.

So it was another 'ill-informed message' on the GPG then.......:D

It's a shame, that it now appears, the club doesn't have an option on Kuffour.....

Big rumours suggesting that we are talking to Jo about a new contract. If they are true we need to do all we can to start next season with Jo and Ide causing mayhem in that division.
Can we not get rid of the MD and put his £50k towards Jo's package?

.................is Brentford a big enough club to warrant an MD?........

In all seriousness, and going miles off topic, who runs the club?

The staff is stretched as it is, without having any direct lines of communication to the board and someone having to take overall control. If an irate supporter or potential business partner wants to speak to 'the boss', who is it?

Obviously this creates a problem with the make up of the board, with nine non-executives, and how they deal with running a business in a non-executive capacity (a misnomer surely), and I'm sure things aren't as good as they should be but I'm also sure we can't operate without a designated boss.

So does this mean that the club are talking to Ide as well then, as he is out of contract at the end of the season also! :fingerscrossedsmillie:

.................is Brentford a big enough club to warrant an MD?........

A decent question.

I once presided over a depot budget of around £1M, 22 staff, 15 vehicles, etc, etc and I am totally incompetant

...the depot won awards and didnt go into debt...in fact we stayed in budget.

Motivation was the key...no big MD, but a lot of key personnel pulling in the right direction-going the extra mile.

No MD, means you would need a full time leader, responsible for everything and everyone....ensuring all was on target at all times. (ie kicking arses, etc, etc)

ps-this post is a lot of bollox really !

Jo Kuffour

Good to see we're talking -I think that may have been a case for a while - but seriously, would you stay?

Jo Kuffour

Would hope the club are trying to sign him up to a deal. Even if its just to ensure we get a fee for Jo and we say "no reasonable offer refused and you can even have a cut of the fee"..... would make some sense given the apparent position we and he find ourselves in

No.

Jo is a London lad who may have found his club as his Torquay spell wasn't filled with much joy. Forget it I'm talking bollox but how many season tickets would it help sell if we knew JK was leading our line next season?
For too many seasons we've had the likes of Brooker (waanker), Heywood, Newman etc earning the wages at our club whilst Tabb and Kuffour knocked their pipes out. If we have any chance we must take it.

I agree - let's keep everything crossed. I'm almost certain that whenever this has happened with any player that I ever wanted to stay he hasn't so I'm not holding my breath.

We don't need an MD, especially that one. No, Brentford FC is just a little cottage industry, too many chiefs and not enough (decent) footballers !

Jo Kuffour

he's not paid a real md's salary --- more of a manager's salary to be honest. you don't get a proper md for a plc (even a limited plc like bfc) for under
£100k!

he may well become a top man in a few years ---- sadly he is on a sharp learning curve. if he is bright he will have learnt by his mistakes already and will sharpen his act rather than his management models!

..............and we've already got him at GP already........Peter Gilham is the obvious choice who could probably fulfill (sp?) the role of General Manager, and we could have Scott Fitz (or whoever, if he isn't going to be the one) as (Chief) Coach.....or is there a danger that he (PG) would go 'native' as others appear to have?...........

Go 'native' ?? ??

Or would you concede that the job is harder than you think it appears from the outside ?:fishing:

So who is talking to jo about a contract?

Is it the manager who basically does not know if he has a job next year?, is he being allowed to start building a team for a season where he may not even be the manager?

Would you not expect a player of JK's ability who has scored fourteen goals in a poo team whilst playing a lot on the wing to attract attention from other clubs?

He is a decent player who could score shed loads in a top league one team..there is no logic as to why he wouild decide to sign for us at this stage as there is far too much uncertainty! What division will we be in?.will our salary structure be less due to relegation therefore a weaker side and a tougher season?. Who will be the manager and will he want his own players?

I would love for him to sign but it doesn't make much sense does it?

Jo Kuffour

I don't think anyone thinks it does.

But you never know..I might start a new thread about players who we signed and took us by surprise as we thought they were too good for us.

I would start with Lee Frost and Gary Johnson who both disappointed and then Francis Joseph who didn't.

Jo Kuffour

:(

What do you know that we don't?............................ :fishing:

Has he got himself signed up already then? :(

I heard a rumour it was Plymouth Argyle.

Not sure about Lloyd as his new club might be in League One next year now.

Jo Kuffour

Lloyd will be going to Southend United, who he had talks with at the start of the season. The sooner he's off our wage bill the better! Shame we're stuck with loads of crap though Mousinho, Heywood, Frampton, Willock, Brooker,Tillen etc. Most of which are probably on their last professional contracts.

Another kick in the teeth to clubs from the Bosman rule. Players who should be concentrating on the run in to the end of the season are free to talk to possible rival clubs about joining them next season

Well it's a level playing field for clubs and we in turn are presumably free to be talking to the players who we want for next season. That is why I should have thought it important to either confirm Fitz in his role this week or make the changes in order that a new manager can start to plan for next year. The budget can surely be set now..........we know that we will be in League Two, an average attendance of maybe 4300, season tickets 2000 max and the average attendance comprising 2000 seasons 2000 pay on the day and 300 away. No television monies, first round of every cup.

That may be a bit sporty but it sounds about right.

Might as well be realistic and that just about sums it up I am afraid.

Probably back to the West Country I reckon.

:sorted:

But wait Bob.... he hasn't received the Bees contract offer for next season yet which he'll need to compare to the one that he's studying at the moment.

It'll be a close run thing.....lol

I was under the impression that Kuffour wasn't going to be offered a contract at Brentford next season....wait for it.....because according to our manager..."he doesn't score enough scrappy goals".

Surely this is at odds with the clubs declared aim of 4999 season ticket holders.

I think that was a misquote.

Fitz had some problems with his power shower and he was heard to say :

"It doesn't pour enough and I'm fed up with dealing with crappy Poles"

That then became according to Brentford legend the story doing the rounds in the Griffin that Fitz didn't want to keep Kuffour because........nah "Say it ain't so Jo".

Glad you put that fishing rod there barmy bee. Take it from me, the current shower of sh*t we have to play for us next season will struggle. There is not much difference. Face it you can't get a lot worse than we have seen this season. and I don't just mean Brentford. This ia a real sh*te division, and we're bottom of the pile.
