Jonathan Douglas

Hopefully he can continue his unseen work on the pitch this Saturday. :fishing:

Jonathan Douglas

think he'll be on the bench then come on for the last 20 odd minutes... spice up the match I guess...

Jonathan Douglas

Good move for him. can't think of much more to say. Was a very effective player for us.

Jonathan Douglas

Glad it's all sorted now. :)

Hope he has a good season at Ipswich but doesn't show up when against the bees.

187 apps and 17 goals.

Jonathan Douglas

He was good for us and leaves with some happy memories of his time - I wish him all the best after Saturday :)

Jonathan Douglas

Best of luck, Duggie (other than games V us) and thanks for your efforts for the Bees.

Jonathan Douglas

Best of luck to him.

Read somewhere that this move shows the difference in philosophy of the two clubs, one is looking for talent that is hopefully on the up and one isn't.

Which version of the MD/JD did didn't speak conversation is true I wonder? I suspect the reality is neither as it seems, to me, to go through the training sessions pre Portugal, 10 or so days in Portugal including a training game and not speak to him doesn't really make sense to me

Jonathan Douglas

Interesting stuff about JD's off field influence to come next week in Mike Calvin's new book about managers.

Jonathan Douglas

Good luck jd, it's been a fantastic 3-4 years but nothing lasts forever.

Jonathan Douglas

Will he be going for a pint with Bill Benn in Brentford on Saturday? Will he do a bit of shopping down at Morrisson's? So many things to worry about! God bless you Josh!

Jonathan Douglas

was i the only one who didn't know he was dating Natalie Sawyer?
Natalie if you read this and need someone to take you out closer to Brentford...

Jonathan Douglas

Still feel we have lost out here. A very good player (im not taking the off feild rubbish into the equation)

Got rid while his best days are behind if , if we got rid of him a year or two ago then maybe but now is the right time foe the new blood to come in

Jonathan Douglas

Looking forward to this one - he has had a great deal of access to BFC I gather

Any more on this? I've heard he had access to Warburton don't know any more than that. I'd be interested to hear more from anyone who's seen a review copy of the book.

Jonathan Douglas

Good luck to him, he was more than just a useful player for us. Hope he does well with Ipswich, except of course when they play the Bees.

Jonathan Douglas

We might regret letting him go

I think we will miss his experience around the place..I find it hard to believe he's been a disruptive influence as in all the interviews ive read and listened in the last four years he seems like a decent blke.Bit of a sh*t way to end a successful 4 year stay and two hundred odd games.Hope he gets a decent reception saturday

Jonathan Douglas

Sad to see him go.. but intrigued about what actually happened... probably see an article about it just before Saturday....

With his record and performances for us along with still being in contract he must have been worth a few hundred K at least as a transfer fee. I haven't read any mention of a fee from Ipswich so presume he was released. Given that the club clearly has values below which they won't sell each player I think the fact that JD seems to have gone for nothing tells its own story.

Jonathan Douglas

Fair play to him. I really did like JD the footballer. We had a good four years out of him. I think he would still be here if he kept his head down. No player is bigger than the club. I wish you all the very best Dougie, thanks and good l.uck.

... but we've saved a year of his salary. ISTR he had a clause that he got a match to the highest paid player.

My wife is nice in public....but behind the scenes...

Were I BFC's General Counsel (Hi Matthew!) I'd ask him to prove he wasn't the highest paid player without inducing either the club or another player to breach the confidentiality clause in their contracts. It is generally pretty easy to get out of a "Most Favoured Nations" clause, particularly if you aren't too fussed about maintaining trust for a future relationship.

Jonathan Douglas

So now that he's gone, any of the ITK's want to spill the beans? :pop:

I'm beginning to come around to this way of thinking, then I ask myself just why Josh was made to train with the kids, told he had no future and rushed out on a free, then I realise that I am just thinking what I want to believe is true and simply ignoring the facts, then I think I am a bit of a drip but a happy drip.

Jonathan Douglas

there's no facts in the public domain just lots of Walter mitty characters who like to pretend they know more than us mere mortalsl..plenty of footballers train with the stiffs as the club's want them out

I think your right Josh was our best player the players loved him the fans loved him he was a model professional just can't understand what went wrong ......I guess we will never know as I'm with the mere mortals ..just going for lie down amongst the sh*t and mushrooms good night.

Good to see there is always another side to any disagreement!!!

I don't wish to get drawn into an argument and unsure who the Walter Mittys you refer to.
I would suggest that Jon Douglas was just what we needed when he signed, an experienced, respected, very strong, influential player. We got great service out of him but he has got previous for taking on the Management team at previous clubs as used to calling the shots.I suspect he did the same for us and it was accepted until he stopped being as effective on the pitch. Not ITK just my opinion.

Jonathan Douglas

JD served us well - and we got the best years out of him. Will always be remembered for his part in the Championship winning team and the earlier part of last season. I personally didn't think he could make that step up and he proved me wrong until December. Thought he faded towards the end of the season and at times I couldn't believe why it was always Toums and not JD being substituted. As I said in another JD thread, the 2 games against Boro proved to me if we wish to take the next step then we need to do this without JD. So I don't think it's a great loss.

If he has any game time on Saturday should be warmly acknowledged, he deserves that.

I really really think we need a win on Saturday. Ipswich are the enemy and there's not going to be a shred of sentimentality from me. I hope he has an appalling game.

It's been a depressing last week tbh so I'll bite your hands off with a draw right now. i get what you are saying re. a win - will just change the mood around this site and also fellow fans. Let's hope for the best.

Jonathan Douglas

Think he could have kept his mouth shut and let his fantastic performances speak for him.

I believe the rumours about his behaviour and I think this is perfect for all concerned.

We move on.

Jonathan Douglas

what rumours are these then? why doesn't someone post what he has allegedly done and josh?

Jonathan Douglas

He was a good player for us but should never have been offered a contract extension. Madness. Love to know the truth. I don't for one minute think we would have sidelined him for no good reason. No doubt we will know in due course. Hope the rest of his career is injury free

There's been far too much written about it already, what more are you hoping for or expecting? He's a strong character and the new Management team don't rate him as highly as previous and decided to let him go.

Jonathan Douglas

Its been well documented that JD made a significant contribution to our progress over the past few years & as such deserves a place in our affections.
Whether he ran out of legs in the latter stages of the season or it was his disenchantment with the decisions being made by the club is something we will never know.
It is clear though that some sort of falling out took place between player & coach resulting in an acrimonious end.It will be interesting to get the low down on this at a later date until then we can only speculate.
In the meantime "Good Luck" JD thanks for the memories & I hope you end up on the losing side on Saturday!

I'm sorry but do understand. Lets face he wasn't going to get any better!
