That of course would be unrealistic, but I would have thought that a any reporter who reads GPG would be motivated to probe a bit deeper when some people with a good track record of competence express serious worries on here that the club through articles in the house journal (for that is what the programme clearly is).

As for the suggestion that the local media should automatically promote the club, well yes where possible to the same extent as say the D Telegraph will always try to report stories with a pro Tory slant. However if it comes to a cover up then they should report FACTS.

I think the local newspapers do a reasonable job covering what is actually happening at the club.

The main problem is that Brentford supporters make up a very small share of the locals' readership, people who read the programme come from far and wide and not just the immediate vicinity. No matter what the local newspapers do they would struggle to correct a misaprehension reported in there.

ChorleyBee, I believe Larry no longer writes for the programme. However, when the articles in question were appearing regularly, the Chron was regularly printing articles probing 'the other side'. A lot of the time this earned us stick from our more 'head buried in the sand' readers. One that springs to mind is our report of the infamous fans' forum where we laid into Finch and Rogers, a piece described as 'brilliant' by abee, who's opinion I respect above most others, but led to a trickle of 'leave the board alone, they're great' letters.
Interviews with Rod Gowers exposing his concerns with BU, plus the recent ones with BU candidates, I would say were digging a little deeper - look at the reaction Mark Chapman's 'BU is not working piece' got and the debate it sparked.
As I keep saying, we're not perfect, but we're always looking for new angles to keep abreast of what is right and wrong at the club. But as West Ealing Bee points out, you have to bear your whole readership in mind too. Becoming a radical mouthpiece would lose more readers than it would gain. Finding the middle ground between that and an Ealing Gazette 'match reports only' style is the key IMHO.

Where's my answers Larry

Larry seems to have adopted a low profile.

No news stories on Beesotted.

No answers to the questions on here

Hello Larry (visits every day) - any chance of some answers now

Larry Signy

most brentford fans hate certain players (usually quite a large minority of the squad), more often than not the manager, always the chairman, the dj/announcer/pr, the board.... and increasingly each other.

larry signy is brentford through and through. he has been asked to write a piece for the other fansite - so do give him his editorial freedom. that's what journalism is about. examples of which are in every paper every day of the year.

 We have a DJ ?

I thought he had been gone, long time.....

And free speech is all about my right to say that he is pathologically incapable/unwilling to either tell the truth or admit when he is wrong.

He's done the club great harm (IMO obviously), and I don't know why I shouldn't call him on it.

Journalism should perhaps also be about truth and integrity, no? Mr Signy abandoned both of these and chose to contribute to the misleading impression about the state of the Club's finances that the previous BFC Board were keen to promote amongst Bees fans.

I cannot see how he is 'brentford through and through' when he chose to mislead his fellow Bees fans. Feels more like a thoughtless, malicious act to me and one that was repeated. Perhaps he would care to explain what he was doing to the rest of us?

Difficult one that. John MacGlashen I'm sure was "Brentford though and through" but it didn't stop him making massive mistakes. Larry may well be a big fan. Perhaps he's just a crap journalist.

I suspect this is true; that he is mostly just guilty of faithfully scribbling down what he is told, without any ability to discern whether it makes sense nor an ability to autonomously fact-check.

What is harder to forgive is the unwillingness to admit he was mislead or that he has, quite unintentionally, badly misinformed a great percentage of the BFC fandom.
