All the squabbling between family, blaming whoever, blaming the pitch, blaming the bloke who makes the tea...

We got out of jail on Saturday, one more point than we had at home to Ipswich last season, we can't change anything that is going on for better or for worse, but we can start enjoying things again and extend the feeling we all had at the end of last season.

We won't all agree, we all have opinions, no-one is right, no-one is wrong... life would be so bad without football and Brentford - to me it simply IS my life...

Last night was awful for loads of reasons - Fresh start on Saturday.

The one thing that is always constant in a football club are the fans - we fought Noades, we campaigned against Webb, older ones showed up and stood against QPR.

I don't forget the past - good and bad - I'll always stand up for those that gave me great joy, the O'Mara's, the Jackie Grahams, the Len Bond's, the Evans and Holdsworths, the Martin Allens and Mark Warburtons... things move on - again for better or worse but we still should be as one - Brentford FC means the World to me.

This is a minor blip I guess - I don't agree with everything MB has done but we are still here and he has given me a team to support (Jury out as to what sort of team that is) but I've still somewhere to go each Saturday.

Come on Brentford.

Spon on until the last paragraph. Everyone should pull together and have faith. Its the beginning of august, two games in, theee will be highs and lows but then again there was last season aswell and its not exclusive to us. We are not exempt from the odd bad result and weird transfer dealings it happens at every club. This is just the beginning! Would of been great to win the first couple of games 3-0 but we didnt. I dont think you can have a blip after two games. Look at nottingham forest last year they stormed away into the lead and thought pearce was the messiah, look how that story ended.

That's fine can't argue with any of that.Have to say l will be at BC Saturday the place where many of us witnessed one of the most gutless performances ever as we should have lost 10 0 in a game we needed to win to stay up.Some of our old hero's wore our shirt that day with shame.

Couldn't agree more.

Those couple of months last season where we were all united and pulling in the same direction were the happiest in my time supporting the club,lets get back to that.

Well said Nick... and if anyone wants one game from the memory bank to sum it all up I offer you Bristol City away on New Year's Day 1980-something. The famous/infamous "warm down" on a pitch that resembled our current bog. Happy, happy day and hopefully an omen...

Spot on. We've had a rough start to the new season - the injuries, the pitch, players being poached - but we are still at one of the most exciting times in the history of the club.

The vision MB has for the club, and his determination to see it through (he's rejecting offers of close to 9m quid for a player we plucked from non league for God sake!) should be rewarded with some patience from us fans. It's not going to happen overnight, but we WILL be a premier league club in the next few years.

I have just been having a tidy up of the desk at work ready for the next project and came across a Hey Jude fanzine from August 2001. The first page is titled ‘Keeping the Faith’ and is written by Pete Johnston.

It is all about Noades and the ‘No to Woking’ campaign. I will just quote one piece which I found summed up my understanding of what it is to be a Bees fan.

“Sharing at Woking cannot be allowed to happen and I’m confident Bees fans will win the argument. Why? Because one thing that has come out of this peaceful campaign is the huge array of talent and passion out there amongst the Bees rank and file”

Forward wind 14 years and I compare my club now to then and we are unrecognisable. Sometimes it is better to remember where we came from and just keep things in perspective.

Like you and everyone else I have no idea, however if we do nothing then we will never progress without MB pumping even more money into the club. We are a small club with a small fan base so anything that might give us the edge is worth pursuing

I have patiently watched us bumble around the bottom divisions with little hope of any real success, now however, using the stats model we have found players that have impressed us and worth far more than we paid

Easy to be downbeat at present with injuries, departures and the pitch issue however the patience we have shown in the past needs to be applied again

We will acheive MB's objectives, it may not be this season or indeed next and along the way we will make mistakes however I am totally confident that I will see Brentford in the Premier League which was something I never thought I would say 4/5 years ago

Keep Gray, new bowling green to play on (which I really think will help us or at least not put us off), within a few weeks things could look much more rosy.
I just hope we can manage 4 points from the next two matches to keep pace with the leaders (3 from Bristol and 1 from Burnley) and we can have some real optimism at GP when reading come along for the next home match on the 29th.

Despite the well documented events so far this season I'm still just a tad happier with Benham's Brentford than the regime in the Noad£s or W£bb days.

Kenny Sansom played like he was already drunk on a park bench and remember him smiling as he shook hands with Leroy after the game. Disgraceful, gutless performance that day and we still nearly stayed up.

Correct, we have no right top be top six in this division at all, last season was sensational but things would have changed anyway, Pritch wasn't coming back, Mo would have been off, Gray would have been wanted by clubs, there would have been a natural change to a lot anyway, Warbs has gone and add that my perceived "natural change" and we have really got a period where we need to bed down, stabilize and go again. That team last season limped in to the POs and we had IMO no real chance in them, changes always happen but they IMO wouldn't have done it again, our only option is to stop looking at the negatives and support the new boys with all that we have, that's not rose tinted or brown nosed, it's just what we have to offer and cross our bloody fingers in the hope that the big boys at the club get it right. I want more of last season but it's gone, hopefully this lot will provide the next instalment of madness to feed our addiction.

Relieved to see that there is a CSE group "common sense element" emerging to balance the D+G vs RTG crews. Can I join please and offer that with the major overhaul, scummy unsettling transfer dealings, the pitch and the loss of a major and key investment should see us expect a season of massive highs and lows.
Hoping for the same as last year with Marinus being hailed a hero but at this stage just hope that some fans haven't already decided he's not for us and we get behind the team like we can on occasions.

For the benefit of anyone who isn't on Facebook, I posted this rallying cry earlier:



This isn't a rant, this isn't having a go at anyone, but this is as good a place as any to convey my thoughts on what's happening at our club in its early stages of real change.
1. Matthew Alexander Benham has pumped in his own money into the club to ensure that we aren't languishing in the depths of the lower leagues. We've never had it so good. It's the most successful it's been since the 1950's. This is down to one person who has an actual strategy. Not a mission, i.e. let's get to the Premier League, but an actual strategy. It sets us apart from the rest. It's not fair on Benham to keep bank-rolling the club. He might be a fan, but he's put his money where his mouth is, and to keep doing it is not realistic.
2. Without Benham's money, the matchday income would provide a player's budget that would mean we would be competing in League One with either a third of the squad we currently have, or a squad of far inferior players.
3. Success is like a drug. It's normal to feel frustrated when the success is not quite at the levels they were at. Look at Man United fans when they were on the crest of a wave and how they reacted to "any" defeat at all, and how arrogant they became. Look at how arrogant most fans are of the bigger clubs in England. Let's not get above ourselves eh?
4. The new strategy may or may not work. It is that simple. However, we stand a better chance of success if we follow this model, but, it might not work. Bear that in mind.
5. Sustained success takes time. If we rush things, we aren't laying the foundations for the club for the long-term. How many clubs have gone up only to come down again and down even further? Look at clubs like Sheffield Utd for example. Portsmouth? Man City dropped to League One, as did Nottingham Forest, QPHa, and Sheffield Wednesday.
6. In every previous regime, we have replaced our best players with utter garbage. For those who remember, we sold Holdsworth for £350k, and brought in the worst footballer ever to have put on a Brentford shirt.....Murray Jones. Who did we replace DJ Campbell with? Callum Willock FFS.
All I am appealing to all Brentford fans, is to understand that success takes time. Instant success is what other clubs look for, but it's rarely sustainable. Swansea are a great example where they have laid down the blueprint for success over the long-term, provided continuity on and off the pitch, despite being a selling club, and are a great model for us. Clubs like Bolton, Wigan, Fulham, Coventry, Sheffield United, I do not want to be similar to.
Even if have a relatively poor season, as a supporter, I will support our club's strategy because I have never ever seen our club perform so well. We've not even had two consecutive seasons in the second tier since the 1953/4. That's over 60 years.
We are all human, we all react differently, and it's human nature to get frustrated, angry, etc, but in the cold light of day, I hope you will consider reading some of these points. We've never had it so good, we have a fan who is putting his money where most people would not, but trying to create a long-term model for the club so we don't languish in the bottom divisions. People's heads do not need to roll for the pitch. Mistakes happen. If the team is not performing well by October with no signs of improvement, maybe we made a mistake with the first team coach. If the club is not progressing over the next couple of seasons, maybe the strategy is not working. But until then, the club has my full support because I am a Brentford fan, no matter what division we're in.
Come on Brentford. We need to unite as fans, players, management. Then we can stick two fingers up to the rest of the world.

I won't 'quote' the whole post but well said Leicester Bee. However I would suggest that your forecast that we would be competing in League One is wildly optimistic and I'll tell you why.

When I was asked to go onto the BFC board at the end of 2007 the Club was in a dreadful state financially. We had a playing budget £1.3m which generated a built in loss of £500k pa. The only person who was prepared to cover that loss was Matthew Benham and he injected at that time £500k pa which enabled us to maintain the playing budget at the £1.3m level. Without MB the only way out in my view would be to have slashed the playing budget to £800k........ and Stockport County went out of the league around that time on a playing budget of.........yep £800k. Also just slashing the playing budget doesn't solve the problem and wipe out the loss at a stroke because with the inferior football and quality on the pitch the match day income drops and it would have been a death spiral for the club.

The following season we were Champions of League Two by six clear points on the £1.3m playing budget and MB immediately asked what we would need to achieve stability in League One. Again he increased his cash injections for the first and second of our League One seasons and again without any interference or comment. He just let us get on with it; what he thought about the way we were running the Club he kept to himself.

I am not on Facebook and do not see the comments but I get the flavour from the posts on here and it's a disgrace.

If Matthew Benham had not become involved back in 2005/6 then if we hadn't gone out of business entirely we would be in National Conference (or whatever it's called now) South and hoping that we could perhaps get promoted in 2015/16 so that we could have exciting future local Derby's against Woking and Aldershot.

Great post, let's get real, far more good than bad going on and realistically we have to expect ups and downs given the major overhaul going on.
It does feel more revolution than evolution at the moment but if we are to kick on and really have serious claims on a Premiership spot it won't come from more of the same I'm afraid so I'm with MB.

Great to see so many "faces" putting their name to this unity thread...

I always liken Brentford to my second family (we shout, argue, laugh, cry and support each other through really difficult times (see the in memoriam thread if you want to check some perspective).

No matter what happens to the rest of this season the core of Brentford are 'us' and that really is all that matters...

The post on Facebook seems to be gathering support, which I am really pleased about. Often enough, it's the silent majority that don't get represented.

And thanks abee, I wasn't fully aware of the facts, but you get my sentiment.

One of the main points I make is that it is human nature to react in different ways to what is happening. I think it's up to those who can, to put forward reasoned arguments to garner support. I am sure that any proper fan will agree that if we are divided, then we are doomed to failure. I don't want to see that happen, especially when we've never seen it so good. But, on the other side of the coin, we must accept that people will be "scared" of change and any failure associated with the change will stir very high emotion indeed.

Think we need to make a positive out of all the negativity that surrounds us at present. The football gods one way and another have reverted to type and we are being shafted left right and centre

That being the case now is the time for the players and fans to metaphorically raise 2 fingers to the outside world and show everyone that we are prepared for a fight to prove that not only do we deserve to be in this division but despite everything that has gone wrong we are a club to be reckoned with

The coaches and players need to show backs to the wall mental strength, the leaders on the pitch need to do just that and the fans need to get behind the players during the game and then cut out all the snidey comments on here and Twitter

Presumably we all have the same objective so let's all bloody well show the world that the owner, coaches, players and fans are together in this journey and, irrespective of what crap comes our way we are no longer little old Brentford but are now a proud Championship team with plans to go further

I get really frustrated at the same regular posters having snide and sarcastic comments in their posts, yes we may disagree on our interpretation of what we see in the pitch but for gods sake we all want the same results so let's show everyone that we are Brentford and we are going places

Cheered me up this has. A good win and performance on Saturday will get us back in the groove. Desperate for Marinus to have a great result to shut the breadmsn chanters the **** up.

It is all about Noades and the ‘No to Woking’ campaign. I will just quote one piece which I found summed up my understanding of what it is to be a Bees fan.

Forward wind 14 years and I compare my club now to then and we are unrecognisable. Sometimes it is better to remember where we came from and just keep things in perspective.

The recent comments on this thread are a credit to the likes of NB. abee, Leicester Bee and sonofabee. Sorry if I've left anyone out. It puts everything in perspective. Should be prescribed reading for all doubter. The club is in safe hands. Players leaving will be replaced with better. Injuries will I'm sure be covered by loans.The pitch is being sorted so no more negativity.
