I don't know what's been made public about the evidence, but surely he would not have been found guilty on the basis of one person's word against another's.

Looking at the report on the BBC website it appears that Suarez does not dispute that he used the word in question (whatever it was). His defence was that it was not intended to be a racist insult.

Doesnt work that way.They'll get thrown out and possibly banned.As for kick racism out of football slogans being displayed,yes im all for that as a reminder that it shouldnt exist.Supporters have learnt to behave over the years and its a shame the players cant quite follow suit.But thats the clubs problem so they will have to act accordingly.

I'm waiting to see the report of the disciplinary panel in more detail, eg how often Suarez used the term. If he used it just once and was told that's unacceptable and shut up, then I don't think he deserves the penalty, but if it was repeated his excuse would wear thin. It may be the case that the term is used among friends in S America, but I don't think he and Evra were friends on the pitch. I think the fact that it was Evra may be a factor, as he had made earlier allegations against Steve Finnan and a member of Chelsea's ground staff, neither of which was upheld.. but that may just be that he is (rightly) ready to tackle racist comments where others would keep quiet.

I reckon the ban will be halved on appeal, with the other half suspended

Suarez has form for all sorts of horrible things including spitting and biting. He's most likely guilty of this specific offence although the evidence would not stand up in a court of law, especialy since three years ago this month, Patrice Evra was damned by an FA regulatory commission for supplying “exaggerated and unreliable” evidence following allegations of racism during the infamous ‘Battle of the Bridge’ with Chelsea ground staff in April 2008. Look at Evra's performance in the French debacle at the last world cup!! Their both horrible sh*ts and deserve each other

Yep. Also, I believe, it was said more than once, IIRC, I heard on the radio it was reported at least 10 times. Also Luis's grandfather is of Black origins.

This is a disgrace. The mention of "prior unfounded accusations" refers to two other cases in which claims of racial abuse against Evra have been made.
To paraphrase - Evra plays the race card.
The thing is, on neither occasion did Evra make the accusation. In 2006, a deaf fan claimed to lip-read abuse of Evra by Steve Finnan, and in 2008 United coaches Mike Phelan and Richard Hartis said they heard a Chelsea groundsman insult Evra.

The first incident was accusations by deaf fans watching on TV, the second was Man Utd coaching staff. Evra has never 'cried wolf' before so it seems. Just a common myth that 'Evra has done it before' which Liverpool have helped propagate.

The case doesn't hinge on whether Evra (or Suarez) is a nice guy or not.

It would be equally apt for me to say Suarez always seems to be involved, be it handling the ball in a world cup quarter final, or receiving an 8 match ban for biting another player. It wouldn't be relevant though.
