Sending off and a one game ban.....a little bite is no worse than pepes headbutt

Somehow head butting and potentially career threatening over the top tackles are deemed less abhorrant and therefore the punishment less. Not condoning his actions in the slightest...you can't. Just throwing in my opinion.

What I don't understand is how the bloke doesn't react to heavy tackles and fouls etc and then instead loses it at odd moments and sticks his gnashers into someone without much evident provocation.

Personally think a tournament lasting ban is the appropriate punishment or maybe a ten game international ban as he is a repeat offender.

Luis Suarez

I think that if a player beat the crap out of another who assaults them like this, they should receive no more than a yellow card for understandable retaliation.
Same for other violent assaults on the pitch.
Always felt the auto Red for retaliation was bullshit.

good point.

Maybe he is reacting but sometime after the event of the tackle. Seems he had a run in with the same defender last year.

What, all half million of them?

Including the Evertonians?

Producer: "We've got a dozen Liverpool fans waiting who think he was out-of-order. Oh, and one who thinks he's done nothing wrong."

Presenter: "Er, put No.13 on the line, then..."

Don't know why some people have brought up the hand-ball in the last World Cup. I'd have done it (if it meant Brentford/England win) and I bet you plenty of you would do the same.

Whilst less obviously dangerous than the infamous Roy Keane tackle we now live in an age where disease can be transmitted in blood or saliva

If I were the recipient of the bite I would be somewhat concerned and in the light of that, together with the fact that he is now a cereal offender I would hope that a ban both domestic and International is issued

To date he has had 7 games and 10 game bans so logic would suggest that a minimum of 12 would be applicable

I'm sure disease could be transmitted in blood or saliva since the dawn of time.

WarrenBee wasn't pointing towards those who post on RAWK, or even the club's supporters as a whole.

He referred to the residents of a city of half a million people, as though they were all defending Suarez en masse.

It would be like a Scouser condemning everyone who lives in London, just because there are eg Chelsea fans who believe John Terry can do no wrong.

Lazy, prejudiced stereotyping.

Can't imagine they would do that. ;)

I tend to find that anyone north of Watford refer to anyone who lives south of Watford as Cockneys.

Shows what sort of person you must be then.
Suppose knives are ok as well then ?

No it shows what a naive person you are.
Of course knives are acceptable, it's a fight, there are no rules. Which is why I always avoid getting into a fight.

You are the only person who's ever called me naivelol
Call me old fashioned but there are rules in my book.
Biting on and off the pitch is a step too far, that's why they put dogs down.
Your comment about knives pays little respect to those who've been effected by them.

Imagine the headlines if Paul Dickov was one of his victims:D

Stat Alert

Suirez has never been on the losing side in a match where he has bitten someone

Luis Suarez

Suarez' assault is GBH in this country.
If he doesn't get AT LEAST a year ban I will give up on pro football for ever!

Luis Suarez

Maybe the Italian players should've walked off the pitch.
If a little dog ran on and gnashed a players ankle, they would leave the field of play
until the doggy had been removed.

i hope he gets a very long ban.

Luis Suarez

9 match international ban and four month ban from any football activity.

Luis Suarez

Luis Suarez has now been banned for 34 games since 2010 without receiving a single red card. Can only stand and admire.

Luis Suarez

Whats the definition of footballing activity?

Does that mean he is not allowed to train with Liverpool for example?

Luis Suarez

Can he appeal the ruling?

That means November 1st 2014 is his first game back domestically.

9 match international ban. 4 months domestic ban. Also, 100,000 Swiss Francs as a fine.

What next for the little biter?

He (or Uruguay) can appeal but it seems FIFA have decided he will play no further part in the World Cup

Luis Suarez

I'm also sick of the double-standards here. It's OK to break an opponents leg or smash his jaw, that will get you a short ban. I'd rather be bitten on the shoulder than crippled by some nasty bastard going over the top. Same goes for spitting which is supposed to be the worst of crimes yet England players spend 90 minutes routinely gobbing at every opportunity, fine example for young supporters.

Luis Suarez

This was asked by someone at the FIFA briefing and the spokesperson didn't know and clarification is required from the committee.

Personally I think the ban is probably about right as 9 internationals is quite a long time. Bit harsh on Liverpool in some respects as they are something of an innocent party, but I think a ban from all football is appropriate given his history. I would also say that FIFA haven't gone way overboard and the sanction is probably fair, if he appeals unsuccessfully, I think the ban should be extended to 6 months.

Luis Suarez

People are trying to check if "any football related activity, including administrative" would mean he can't transfer to another club either....

Either way, not long enough really. What's to stop him doing it again in January for example. I hope that psychiatric help is included, as it is needed...

Quoted for absolute truth. Stigmatisation is deserved, but I feel people are overly-stigmatizing him now.

[QUOTE Fifa added in a statement about Luis Suarez's ban: "A stadium ban is pronounced against the player Luis Suarez in accordance with art. 21 of the Fifa Disciplinary Code as follows: the player Luis Suarez is prohibited from entering the confines of any stadium during the period of the ban (point 3). The player Luis Suarez is prohibited from entering the confines of any stadium in which the representative team of Uruguay is playing while he has to serve the nine-match suspension (point 2).[/QUOTE]

Luis Suarez

I believe football fines should be based on weeks' wages.

The ban is the real sanction. His club may choose to suspend pay whilst unavailable which in effect would be the financial penalty.

Luis Suarez

It's very harsh on Liverpool FC as they have done nothing wrong. There is only one person to blame and that's Luis Suarez.

During his last (domestic) ban, he played in the Confederations Cup and World Cup qualifiers.

Luis Suarez

Suarez can be transferred during his ban.

Luis Suarez

Liverpool will probably sell him and he will get a nice increase in wages and a signing on fee-all while he is banned !

Nice work if you can get it.

Luis Suarez

The whole point is that the ban is against Suarez, not against any team that he may represent. Liverpool must be well aware of his flaws, yet still continued to employ him. That was their choice and now it has come back to bite them (excuse the pun).

For what it is worth I think the ban wasn't long enough, but by the same token actually surprised that FIFA didn't totally bottle it.

Luis Suarez

Now that Suarez has been banned, will the Uruguay team now suffer from a lack of teeth and a real bite in their attack?

Should have fined him 4 month's wages as well, not a couple of days!

Luis Suarez

I'd be interested to know what the ban would be for an amateur footballer who did this 3 TIMES. Almost certainly a life ban I imagine.

Luis Suarez

It's very harsh on Liverpool FC as they have done nothing wrong.
Technically you're correct.

And they handled the Ivanovic incident reasonably well, too, imo.

But the club's conduct over his Racism charge etc was disgraceful.

I guess these things always come back to bite you...

(I'll get me coat)
