Managerial Changes 2014/15

Pompey get gates of 14,000+ yet they haven't even threatened the play-off spots in Div Two.
Are they really going to stick with Andy Awford next season?

I know they've had a lot of injuries, but if Derby don't make it this season, The Wally with the brolly could been gone before the start of next season.

He's gone anyway, allegedly to Newcastle regardless of which division Derby are in.

I'll not forget Andy Woolmer (ref) a couple of seasons ago running over to their players after they scored and then allowing a full 90 seconds of ongoing celebrations.

You've got yesterday's chap, Richard Clark, as fourth official at Hillsborough.

There is a school of thought that it was actually Nigel Clough who sorted out Derby (esp their player finances) and felt shat upon when McClaren was parachuted in in his place.

If so, failure to get Derby up would be a stain on McClaren's CV, as well as a cock-up by the Board.

I felt that...they were struggling a bit in The Championship for a while, he turned it all around and left as the fortunes were looking good. I always thought it was an odd dismissal, especially timing, but that said I don't know the ins and outs of it.

I could be wrong but I think a lot of their current team were signed by Clough

If you want to overlook the fact that all the time Clough was at Derby they never mounted a serious challenge for the play-offs despite being the best supported side in the Championship most seasons.

If they have any sense or money, they should go after either Russell Slade or Ian Holloway.
Either one will get them into Div One and then mount a challenge to get back in the Championship.
Unless their finances are still f***ed, in which case void the above.

About a third of their income was going on football debts from their admin days, not sure if they still are mind.

Thought they announced at the back if last year that they had cleared the debts, seem to recall hearing an interview with their chairman at the time

Clough took over in Jan 2009.

Prior to that, County had been relegated from the EPL in May 2007 with the earliest relegation date, the lowest ever points total and 1 win all season (all records). They were then to complete nearly 12 months without a home win - another record. Meanwhile, the club had two changes of ownership and replaced Billy Davis with Paul Jewell, who was sacked after little over a year.
In short, the club was a complete shambles, and losing money hand over fist when Clough was appointed.
I was told that his brief was to slash the budget, which meant getting rid of high earners and replacing them with cheaper options, which he did, and which was why he was kept on for nearly four years - i.e. he was doing the job he was appointed for.
Then as soon as he began to see the light at the end of the tunnel, he was sacked and McClaren was parachuted in.
Now tbf to McClaren, he has got Derby up into the P/O's again. But half of his players are Clough's players and the other half were signed with money that was never available to Clough.
All of which suggests to me that Clough was treated badly.

Of course I am nowhere near close enough to the club to know whether that is what really went on, but it certainly sounded plausible to me.

Well, he couldn't have been treated that badly, 'cos they stuck with him for something like five seasons, despite as I wrote, never mounting a serious play-off challenge.
Now he's at Sheff Utd, biggest club in the division, but haven't got near the automatic places all seasons.

Looks like Jurgan Klopp could be leaving Borussia Dortmund.

They have called a Press Conference for 12.30 this afternoon.

Looks like the decision is more Klopp's than the clubs, but we shall see...

As for Derby, they were 9 games in when Clough left, then McLaren came in and everyone lauded his team's play style, it wasn't a hard turn around based on who they had. They were playing that way under Clough and he brought in the players to be able to play that style. McLaren deserves credit but everyone seems to forget the contribution Clough made in building the club up to have that strong foundation to push forwards. But hey....

A few days ago a rather far-fetched sounding rumour about your man Warburton buying Oldham surfaced.

I dismissed it as nonsense. Wealthy southerners rarely move north to invest.

Then we get Rosler in the director's box on Saturday. In fairness he's attended a lot of other League One games recently.

Now I've heard from a player's agent that some sort of Warburton / Rosler owner / manager link up is genuinely on the cards.

It still seems very unlikely to me. But hey, I'm intrigued.

Unlikely in my opinion.

If it did I would assume Uwe would want the title 'Manager' in which case be prepared for lots of negative play and striving for 0-0's rather than victories.

Warbs is the other way and strives for victories not draws!

So at oppo corners it will be all 10 outfield players back defending - or at least three players on the half way line for a breakaway!

Such opposites in philosophy would be a conundrum which would be difficult to resolve!
