Looks like Pardew is on his last legs, not really sure what they expect up there, they finished 10th last season, 16th the year before and fifth the year before that.....seemingly do good transfer business but theyre never happy

Not sure Ashley really cares for Newcastle.

His one care is that they maintain premiership status. Pardew has achieved that by some distance so far. Media expectation levels are highe rthan Ashley's. The fans believe they should always be top 6 and size of club they probably are right. 6th or 18th doesn't affect their income that much.

Good point. No idea if he does either.

But he is consistently linked with Rangers (which he already part owns and wouldn't cost him much to acquire fully). Maybe he's waiting for them to be promoted back into the SPFL and then he'll buy them outright. Obviously it'll take them sometime to match Celtic ;) but much easier to win a trophy or two up there and enjoy the adulation of the fans (if that motivates him. :shrug: )

Agree, I felt for the guy when I read all this. I know we're not supposed to like him because of the rivalry last season, but he did really well for a tin pot club with a tin pot budget last season; so when a decent club came in for him and they refuse to let him talk, having said he's out of a job if he doesn't get a result in the previous game - that smacks of injustice. Hope he gets the Cardiff job, because chances like that aren't likely to come his way again. Also happy enough if LO subsequently screw-up this season. Don't reckon he'll perform wonders at Cardiff, but that is a non- issue from my viewpoint.

He's better off out of there. Deserves this opportunity, has a good CV and be interesting to see how he does with decent resources

ridiculous of Orient. surely he'd have a very fair case (not that i know sh*t about how it works) to say that his position had become untenable (or at least uncomfortable) due to his managers threatening to remove him, but then also not allowing him to interview for a better job... i wouldn't want to keep working for them in any case. he might be better off laying low in a way - his name will still be on Championship clubs' radars when the next guy gets fired...

Nothing to discuss. The money WAS there.

Moyes 'only' spent £64m and the money was there if they could have signed a Ronaldo or a Bale, who they were after. Had they signed one of them it'd have taken the total to c£150m.

When DM took over, MU were the reigning Champions, so looking across from Florida, the Glazers may well have considered that just a bit of 'renovation' was needed.

But by the time LvG took over, MU had just finished 7th, with no European football, thereby making it so much easier for LvG to persuade them that a complete re-building job was needed.

Do you imagine that if Moyes had been offered a Bale or a Ronaldo (or a Falcao or a Di Maria) that he would have refused?

My own guess is that the appointment of Moyes to replace Ferguson may have been less significant for their failure in the transfer market, than the appointment of Ed Woodward to replace David Gill.

But whatever the cause, it's always the Manager who gets the blame.

Of course it was there, it is on record that he made a bid for Bale in region of £70m. He tried to sign Baines for up to £20m, he tried to sign Fabregas £40m.
It wasn't the money, it was new Ceo and new manager at same time that was the issue imho.

Whereas by the time LvG came along, they were so desperate they were prepared to pay any price to secure their primary targets.

And I think one other factor may have made a difference. When Moyes was MU's Manager, the really wealthy clubs like PSG, Man City, Monaco and QPR ;) were throwing their money around and so were ultra competitive in the transfer market. But one season later (LvG), we are seeing how FFP is causing at least some clubs to draw in their horns somewhat - eg Chelsea.

And of all clubs, MU are least affected by FFP, so they've probably now got a clearer run than ever.

In my view, of the Premier League clubs, Chelsea did the best business.

Exactly. Moyes still spent £64million. It's not as if he had peanuts to spend!

Of course it's not "peanuts", but it's not £150m, either.

Actually, it's Angel Di Maria when you count add-ons.

Can anyone claim that Di Maria on his own would have been the answer to Moyes' problems?

Anyhow, I'm not denying that Moyes made mistakes etc. But on his the basis of the record which caused MU/Ferguson to appoint him, I think he might be entitled to argue that had he been supported by the Board in the same way as LvG has, then he might have done rather better than he did.

P.S. Allardyce and Ferguson are "thick as thieves", so maybe he spoke to him before making this comment. If so, is this Ferguson's way of questioning why the Board didn't give Moyes the support which LvG is enjoying?
