He is literally another David Button. A calamity waiting to happen. All rounded he has been very very poor it’s concerning. Can’t see this improving until he’s dropped and then potentially bided back in at a push…

He's more dodgy than Button. He's 6 Foot 5 inches. He should command that area.

Mark Flekken (Closed Thread)

To be fair, after a shaky start David Button came good

He didn’t tho really. Button always had that calamity in him. Was a good shot stopper but his reassurance of the rest was never ever there.

Hoping to see him tonight at the Premier of the new Spike Lee film. "Dutch Men Can't Jump".

For what it worth I blame him for the goal today. He's nearly 6 and a half foot tall, yet was beaten by a header (straight at him) from 12 yards away. Surely he's capable of jumping 17 inches of the ground to save that. Apart from that he didn't have a bad game.

It was their only shot on target wasn't it?

It all reminds me of the arguements in cricket with wicketkeepers. Their ability to score runs became much more important than other aspects of their play so much so that scoring quick runs became the main criterion. I wonder if similar applies to Flekken, i.e. his recruitment was based on his ability to pass the ball, set up quick attacks, etc. rather than the sorts of attributes that goalkeepers traditionally had.
Yep, Foakes would’ve caught that.

Really bad mistake today but he will be good.
As all the negative people will be all over this thread.
Why are people so negative in life? Why not just try to enjoy the best position we have ever been in.
I really don't understand it. For all the moaning.. whats the worst that can happen..oh we go down.
Just enjoy oùr success.

Mark Flekken (Closed Thread)

For me what matters is the backing he gets from the fans live. It's one thing people having a moan on here (and I totally get that frustration today), but he's a goalkeeper of proven calibre and he doesn't become a bad one in a handful of premier league game. What will hurt him is a lack of support from his own fans during the game - he's shown his distribution can be good (today he was maybe only told to play to CBs or long?) and that he is capable of good shot stopping, even if he's messed up today. Rico messed up against Bournemouth and had instant backing afterwards - all our players deserve that whilst wearing the shirt.

Is he proven though ? This is basically his 3rd season in a top division at the age of 30.

This is also Raya's 3rd season in a top division...
(And he missed months of the first one too!)

Most infuriating thing is that it wasn’t even a technical issue today. It was a lazy, careless, half-hearted mistake
I think it is actually a technical mistake, aside from the fact he made a poor effort at getting a hand to it, his positioning was poor. As the cross comes in he has to decide to come for it or not. As soon as he realised it’s not in a catchable area he has to take steps back, that prevents it being out of his reach. As they explained in punditry after the match, the ball doesn’t even end up crossing the line near his bar, by the time it goes in it’s just above head height!

Mark Flekken (Closed Thread)

Blokes useless . Where raya used to pick to ball up we now place a centre half. More points lost , should be dropped .

Disappointing for the goal. All manner of small errors on his part plus an excellent header resulted in the goal. Pulling the hand away - a bit like not diving for shots - makes you wonder whether he could have saved it. Just go for it full throttle in future. It looks better and might just make the critical difference. In other aspects he looked calm and assured but unfortunately keepers are judged harshly.

I’d have looked calm and assured!
It was the only friggin effort he had to save

But he shouldn’t have been put in the position of having to save it … the amount of time and space the Forest player was given was very disappointing indeed for a Premier League defence

Won’t be dropped would be terrible for his confidence but agree with some posters that he doesn’t look good enough

Mark Flekken (Closed Thread)

Yep, Foakes would’ve caught that.
Yep and Simpson would have caught it, sprinkled stardust on it and delivered a throw for Wissa to score all in one action.

He kept the most clean sheets in the Bundesliga last season. So I’m not sure what would count as proven in your world if that doesn’t?

We have to accept that we had a world class player and we took him from championship level to world class. If you want to support a team that can afford to shell out on ready made world class players, can I recommend Chelsea. And if you want to support a team that can afford to shell out on ready made world class players, and wins games, try Arsenal.

I would class £11m as proper money.

No way are we going to spend £40m on any player, let alone a goalkeeper.
Well you see what you get for 25% of 40 million a keeper that is only 25% as good as david raya. And would say goalkeeper is most important role in our team and flekken costs us points most games. We either need to pay up or scout these keepers for there goalkeeping attributes not how far they can kick a ball,or he must be a good keeper because he has a handful of caps or kept some clean sheets in a german league,or played for spain in the olympics.
cant believe any top team would of signed the last 4 keepers we have signed after they had watched them play.

Do you think the people who run the club are thick?

Mark Flekken (Closed Thread)

If that was the case, he should have played safe and tipped it over. Simples.
I agree, should have played it safe and i bet hte is beating himself up about it having watched it back

That could result in Strakosha starting v ManUre....

It was supposed to be a joke, but never mind....
Problem is, we have some very stupid people (on here aswell) that will be screaming for it to happen.
I will mark you down in the "not stupid" category ?

He fecked up AGAIN….it’s getting a worry that he’s beaten from so far out by a header…I’m not convinced this bloke is a replacement for Raya unfortunately ?

Wait until you find out what happened to Raya on his debut for Brentford.

Well either the people that run the club are… or some that post on here are… ?
The one is not dependent on the other. The people who run the club are quite obviously not thick. They have taken us to where we are in a brand new stadium on what by PL standards is a very small budget. We should be bloody grateful and all but a few of us are. It doesn’t however mean that they may not have made a mistake with Flekken despite all the indications were that he was a top class keeper, nor preclude our right to voice our opinion.
