Mark Warburton Thread

Increasingly I wonder what warburtons role is in the grand scheme of things. The impression is that he has the contacts to bring players into the club which beggars the question: is Rosler trying to manage a group of players that are not necessarily his choice and secondly: how good are warburtons contacts?

This season we have mislaid 3 ( 4 if you include grabban ) without producing any decent replacements ( beranio could be good but is he back?) equally the players that came in, who chose them?

Rosler has been soundly criticised on here for the lack of goals etc, in part a lot of the criticism is justified ( certainly the lack of fight) but if it is warburton as director of football that is responsible for the players in and out then a significant amount of flack needs to be directed his way

If we are set up in such a way that players in and out are decided by warburton then Rosler was foolish to take a job where he has one hand tied behind his back

Would be interested in some clarification from those in the know

It is an interesting question. Rosler often talks about trying to get players in and working hard etc etc, but that may not necessarily mean he is himself. Personally I think Rosler is fairly heavily involved and would imagine the idea was that MW's contact would provide him with options of players who he would then pick from, however I really don't see that this has come to fruition.

Most recently we were told that a striker was likely to arrive early last week, whilst I do not advocate any panic signings we are now approaching the deadline(I think?) and we have a very under powered strike force. If the deadline passes without us signing a decent striker (the GA money was all available for reinvestment) then I will be concerned about our general ability to bring players to the club going forward.

There is something intrinsically puzzling here. I asked the question at the end of Orient reports thread and it was never answered. As some have said if it's all a long term plan all well and good but now counts too. My head hurts thinking of what exactly is happening.

If UR has not got a very good relationship with his scouts, is not watching & selecting players himself & is dependent on MW for info on players & deciding who to sign, he has made a rod for his own back & imo is destined to fail. From what I have seen MW is no Peter Taylor (to Brian Clough) & there should be absolutely no question that UR should have total control over who signs for this club at 1st team level (if not lower down).

I am also worried about him living 3-4 hours from the club. Most managers at our level spend most evenings watching games & scouting players. Does UR? He's back in Manchester on the day before the loan deadline - pretty important for us I think. GA appears to have called him at home when demanding (?) to leave. Farrell & Kernaghan both appear to be northern-based also. It seems to me that a lot of time will be spent on the road going home to families which other managers would be utilising elsewhere.

Of course there may be little urgency about where we finish this season - an assumption that we won't go down which, if so, is a real mistake. I certainly can't see us improving on the points total of the last two seasons despite us having Rochdale, Bury & Chesterfield still to play. We have made nowhere near the footballing-style or squad development progress imo that would, to some extent, have justified a mid-table position.

Are we now reliant on MW or UR to regenerate the squad for next season? It should, again imo, be the latter, but I actually think his starting point is no better than at the beginning of this season. I find that extremely worrying & frustrating.

I t would be good if the club could clarify warburton's and rosler's roles,i thought warburton was in charge of all football matters including player recruitment and rosler was the first team coach train the players and pick the team.Im not sure how warbuton is qualified for this role as he doesn't have any experience at first team level.

Would love to put my stance on this thread Mr Pipe, but if there is one person who slaughtered my posts on subjects such as this,it was yourself.Pissing in the wind was how you refered to me.

Not a fan of Warburton, never have ben never will.

As I say, unreserved apologies

I think if we don't bring in a striker [ again ] I agree that it would be very helpful for the club to let supporters know exactly how the player recruitment works. I have no doubt that Uwe has the final say but what about responsibilty for sourcing and negotiations?

Yes, some people were falling over themselves with joy when Warburton was appointed which I found puzzling, had never heard of him until he came here and am still unconvinced by him, Uwe may well be taking a lot of flak at the moment but I think Warburton is due for some to, seems to have parked his slippers under the desk and done bugger all else.

I wonder how he splits his time up between organizing an U19's European tournament and helping/managing Uwe?

I agree Warburtons contribution appears to be pretty disappointing. I think we were led to believe (or possibly just made it up in our heads) that with his extensive contacts through the nextgen thingy that we would have the pick of the young talent from the elite clubs of Europe.

We got McGinn!

I also wonder what progress we have from the development squad. Surely with the money invested we should be close to seeing some return.

Very good post from you buddy whichmakes a lot of sense to me.
I've just had a brainwave though, seems to me there are too many chiefs and not enough Indians, so why don't we just get rid of the lot.
Going back now to watch Deal or No Deal.

I've been banging on about Warburton for ages. I still blame him for the JPT final loss.....there's no way anyone would start Adam Reed in that final (Bean should have played as should have Grabban) but MW clearly keeping his contacts happy...afterall Reed was his signing...not As or NF.

To answer your question.....his qualification is being good mates with MB. Which is sh*t for the fans and just 'jobs for the lads.'

If we are to see a change in 'management' SACK WARBURTON and KEEP ROSLER. Let the manager actually manage!!!

Many thanks for reply i did wonder why he wasn't fired with Forster as her was part of that management team that wasn't considered good enough by the board to get the job permantly, and then he gets promoted to football supremo with no experience of managing at this level only experience was at watford as assistant youth team manager.
I also believe he should be fired as he simply isn't qualified to be director of football and leave rosler to manage the team.

Good post and I would also add wood being left out at Wembley was a shameful thing.

Thought MW previously oversaw Watford`s successful academy and also had coaching experience with England (u-19s?).
So to say he has no credentials may well be wrong.

Not sure exactly how it works but i thought MW oversees everything bar the 1st team.

If I was manager, would I rely on someone else signing players for me? Call me a control freak but no ****ing way.

Mark Warburton Thread

I seem to remember Uwe saying that he has only ever managed teams with a director of football, and that it was commonplace in Europe, so I don't understand what Warburton is being blamed for exactly? It's not as if Uwe shouldn't have this kind of experience already.

Unless the new line of defence for an underwhelming season is because Warburton has been blocking Uwe signing new players, or meddling in team affairs? If that ACTUALLY is the case, does anyone think someone ITK is going to make it public knowledge? If the charge aimed at Warburton is that he isn't finding new talent, then what excuse do all the teams without directors of football give for poor seasons?

Credit and blame where it's due, if people are blaming Warburton for a poor season they are grasping at straws. People might as well start a thread blaming the location of the dugouts for our league position...

Not grasping at straws just seeking clarification as to who does what in regard to bringing in and releasing players. If as you say Rosler is happy to work in this fashion then thats fine, albeit that i dont think it is realistic at our level. However I would hope that Rosler has some imput into the choice of player that arrives at the club.

UR said on that. Late kick off show the other week that BFC was the perfect club for him (or similar) so would suggest he's ok with the status quo at GP ?

I think its noticeable that the Clinton Morrison signing announcement on the OS comes with quotes from Warburton. Its almost as though he is saying 'look folks, I have managed to get you a proven, international goalscorer.

Surely his role is to do all the negotiation and administration having agreed with the first team manager that this is the player to go for from the short-list of possibilities? When you decide you want fish for tea and you've made the decision between mackerel and cod, you send the wife out to market to buy, don't you? (Or is that my Tyneside roots showing through?)

And what he said too.

Look, I don't understand what any Director of Football/Sporting Director does unless it's the usual combination of old hand at the game with great contacts with young manager who could do with a mentor and someone to introduce him to useful people. Beyond that, I don't get the point of the role. Shouldn't contract negotiations involve the manager and the CEO or the Chairman of the Board?

All I know is we've got a Sporting Director who cannot be working full-time for the Club because of the NextGen tournament and, frankly, I think if we need a Sporting Director at all, we need someone whose sole focus is BFC and what is going on there.

Shouldn't this read... Warburton; his roll?

Mark Warburton Thread

I should think Warburton does alot of work behind the scenes and doesn't just loaf about all day watching players on YouTube. When it comes to departures though, it'd be interesting to know how thick a slice he gets of the fees. His position at the club is probably sandwiched between the first team and boardroom.

I do not know who does what at BFC. It would be nice for the fans to be told. One thing I do not agree with on here is Uwe Rosler getting the b***ocking from quite a few fans on theGPG. Rosler has come into English football and probably knew sweet fa about lower league players IMO I feel that the club has gone backwards in terms of the football, just when I thought we could go back no more. Warbs and the rest of the management team need to hold their hands up , as Rosler seems to get most of the blame, The product on the pitch has been a disgrace. Collectively the players have to share the blame, they are the ones on the pitch. With an exception of a few players. the current crop have let the fans down, and it looks as though most of them could not care less. I feel absolutely let down by what has been produced this season. To take the lead at home, and then drag back every player to defend a set piece does not say much for a positive syle of football. This is not a rant, this is an honest assessment of how I have seen this season go. So IMO, this has been a season to forget. and the playing management and team players Have to hold their heads up and share the blame

Mark Warburton Thread

I do not know who does what at BFC.

I know the names Uwe Rosler, Mark Warburton, and now Alan Kernaghan.
Who else is there? Can anyone tell me their job titles?
I wonder if it all goes tits up next season, if they just turn to Kernaghan to manage the first team.

Certain comments about the "product on the pitch" are rather OTT. The truth is there is only one thing that has been consistent about this season and thats inconsistency.........and that goes for the mood on GPG over the season which one minute is all doom and gloom and the next we're the best thing since sliced bread.......

Mark Warburton Thread

And as for Warburton and Rosler, two thoughts as to their roles:

1. The most important thing is that they get on well together, support one another and work well together as a team, and that goes for all the players and coaching staff and all at BFC.
2. Season 1 is not even over. "Barcelona was not built in a day"..........

Very clear article from Warburton which has answered my questions and spread some light on the issues of progressing our own players, scouting and the problems of getting in the players we would ultimately like to see

Whatever we may think about what is produced on the pitch it is clear that we are managing on a very professional basis which bodes well for the future of the club

Much more sanguine now about what is going on and what is trying to be acheived
