Mathias Jensen

Mathias Jensen

I'm definitely not a Jensen fan and would happily do without - but thought he was alright yesterday. Long throw was decent enough too. Lovely ball to release Henry down the left.
Corners all game were horrible, not specific to Jensen at all.

Mathias Jensen

So I reckon the reason so many of you think he's wonderful is because he pulls the wooll over your eyes by generally mostly playing it safe nicely.
I was always told at Sunday league level "if you don't want to stand out just do the simple things well".
In his case it basically means spraying balls across the field in non dangerous positions. Looks great, but actually, is completely ineffective as you're not advancing forward.
What really makes a difference is what Jensen in his position SHOULD be doing - which was what CE was doing and has been doing throughout his career (and which is why CE is one of the best players and Jensen is not and never will be) and that is: to provide the attack with options.
When was the last time Jensen played a killer pass forward? A killer through ball that Toney got at the end of? It doesn't happen. And his woeful stats re number of assists back this up.
When he is on the pitch it is painful to see how short on midfield creativity we are. The commentators always say same thing. Noone to blame but Jensen cos he's not doing what he's supposed to.
I understand those types of balls are the riskiest, and often they fail to materialise, and for that reason most players don't dare because by doing so their pass completion success rate is lowered.
However if your job is literally to be creative then you just have to give it a go.
Oh but he plays it safe and occasionally tackles so it's fine I hear you say? No. We have Norgaard for that. Jensen's role should be and is to do what CE did (or at least try to). Hence TF comparing Jensen to CE and saying he should "step up". But...he hasn't stepped up, has he. As I feared would happen he has reverted back to the same Jensen pre CE. That is easy on the eyes but utterly ineffectual. Now, that is fine if you're a defensive midfielder. But for a so called creative midfielder it is completely unacceptable and this is why some of us who can see through this and give him stick - and are perfectly entitled to do so.
Just cos he pings a long ball from one side to the field to the other doesn't make him a fabulous player. Sorry. That does not fall under the bracket of "creative". How there is so few of us on here that understand this beggars belief to be honest.

Mathias Jensen

You will never persuade the likes of Voice, he is a lost cause. He asks why did TF sub him then, but doesn't ask 'Why did he pick him as a starter'. The answer is the coach, who I think we are all agreed is a genius, knows how good MJ is and therefore picks him. Don't worry about Voice and his fellow doubters, enjoy the vitriol and inaccuracies and watch MJ play the superb passes that he did on at least 2 or 3 occasions yesterday which just proves them wrong. You can lead a horse to water etc. For my part MJ is an important squad player, sometimes starting, sometimes a sub, but always contributing and a skilled player we should be pleased and proud to have.
Thanks for your input MJ …good to see some of the players coming on here ??

There’s few on here maybe BUT there’s lots who actually GO who breathed a sigh of relief when TF made that change…out of the 3k plus there there wasn’t many crying about that decision or saying oh please keep him on as he’s the new messiah ? if you want to get a result and you’re behind we need better than him to get a result…this is the higher echelons of the worlds top league and not league 1 where spraying a few balls around in non dangerous areas and running around a bit gives you the right to stay on the whole game….TF saw what was needed and I applaud him for that ?

yes he did ok first half in a very average to poor team performance but I really think norgaard and vitaly are far better and happier when’s he’s not partnering them…the difference JDS and LKP too made was so instant it just can’t be swept under the carpet as the cult want us to think ??

Mathias Jensen

Yes maybe so, but that does not make MJ a bad player. If we bid a fortune on Harry Kane, that does not make IT a bad forward. MJ, as with any player, is part of the answer in midfield. He will have off days and injuries and sometimes the way we play won't suit him, other times this will all be right for MJ.
Not sure where I said MJ is a bad player, or that buying MD makes him one, IMO he is a useful squad player but we are intending to improve
as we should do.

You don’t help yourself when you talk such complete b***ocks.

Everton away. Killer pass forwards to Toney that would have left him 1 on 1 with the goal keeper had Branthwaite not fouled him and was sent off.

Everton away. Jensen split the Everton defence half with a through ball to Toney that he should have scored with and in any event directly lead to our equaliser.

Leeds at home. Just before HT. Dispossessed Cooper and put Mbeumo clean through who shot wide.

Leicester away. It was Jensen’s 45 yard pass into Rico that turned defence into attack and lead to the passage of play that lead to Mbeumo’s volleyed effort.

So your extensive knowledge of Sunday morning football trumps Kasper Hjulmand's and Thomas Frank's football knowledge who both constantly select and trust MJ to play for their teams ?. Maybe you could apply to replace Thomas as head coach, a dream team with VotB as your assistant.

So how comes his assists was logged as ONE for last season?

If these guys were the best, we'd have won the premier and Denmark the world cup. Forums are for opinions. Sycophancy, doesn't prove points. It just shows character

The continued hostility and bile directed towards Jensen by some posters on here is pathetic and disgraceful. Its tantamount to harassment. I don't remember any Brentford player ever being subjected to this level of hate. Even those that have supported him on here have received constant vitriolic abuse.
Do the continual Jensen abusers actually realise how stupid and idiotic they make themselves look by continually slagging off one of our own players at every given opportunity day in day out, Either get behind ALL our players that MB, PG & Thomas deem to be suitable for our club, Just because you don't personally like a person you have never met or ever likely to, you will find yourself in a minority, Either keep your nonsensical vitriolic abuse to yourselves and contribute something worthwhile for a change, Or better still go and support QPR, then you will have something to carp about!!!

The guy in the row in front turned to me and said how does Jensen start ahead of Josh I said god knows how …

Bits in red are a bit strong. It is generally criticism rather than abuse or "slagging off"

Re the bit in green, I don't think I have read read a single word questioning the guy as an individual or disliking him as a character, all criticism I have read is regarding his abilities as a footballer.

I don't personally dislike any of Brentfords players. I do have a preference scale. Calling someones opinions, nonsensical, vitriolic or abusive is very mean. I hope everyone continues to be a fan regardless of the elitist/virtuous positions taken by some

Firstly, drama queen, it is criticism, not abuse. Big difference.
Secondly, I have nothing against MJ as a person. I don't know the guy. Probably perfectly decent chap. The issue I have is MJ as a football player for BFC. And I don't think I am particularly rude or unreasonable when pointing out the aspects of his play I dislike... which..by the way..as fans we are perfectly entitled to do on a public forum.
If "only positive comments are allowed"...well...that is news to me. Maybe a mod can confirm this?

Mathias Jensen

You’re too good. You really are.

Jensen passes to Mbeumo. Mbeumo shoots wide = no assist.

This of course does not mean that the killer pass didn’t happen.
Fair enough.
Fortunately I also have an issue with Mbeumo's wasteful nature in front of goal.

Couple of things. Firstly, it's not a Public Forum but that's a minor point. Secondly, the terms and rules are listed here. I guess point 5 applies here.

Drama queen is tongue in cheek surely doesn't count as abuse. Maybe I should have added the " ;) " . Cos I mean...it was pretty dramatic...

Mathias Jensen

In the 59 minutes he played 7 of his 8 long pass attempts were successful. CE averaged 5.76 successful long passes per 90 minutes last season.

While it seemed we weren’t progressing the ball well at feet and only Hickey’s efforts have been highlighted, Vitaly and Ben were also among the best at this game week. We almost never got players into this chart last season

I think we’ve changed style a fair bit and it’s probably worth letting TF and the team go with things a bit before flipping to our default “I have eyes” critiques.

We have already established he can pass a long ball. But what do the stats say re the general direction of these balls? Forward...or..to the side ..?

Mathias Jensen

If MJ is the answer in midfield, why would we spend a fortune on MD, because he is an upgrade.
Won't be playing in Jensen's role. Jensen plays deep lying play maker. I don't think we're be seeing MD there ?? he'll be played much further up the field ?

Mathias Jensen

This is really hard. I do think he played well while he was on the field yesterday, and his long passes to switch the play were excellent. I think that he's an excellent player if the team is looking to sit in possession and be cautious, but I think that the team just doesn't play that well with that style. I think that the team likes having him start because they are thinking 'this is a solid and reliable team which can hold teams off while they tire themselves out and we can get a feel of their tactics for the match, then bring on more aggressive and attacking players and take advantage of a tired lineup.' I'm not saying that he's better than Dasilva, but if that is the mentality that the team is going into some games with, he may be a better starting option than Dasilva so that Dasilva can come on and play his game with less resistance.

Mathias Jensen

MJ is a fine player for us and especially Denmark.. However, the Damsgaard signing and the emergence of Bidstrup and Magohma may see him be moved on in January or next summer.
