Should he do better in preventing the Newcastle goal? Not sure there is a need to go diving in and leave a massive gap, given than Yarmoliuk was ahead of him and already applying pressure on the ball.

I watched the game with my Wife yesterday and was telling her about the 3 or 4 players that every Bees fan adores.....Thiago, Damsgaard, Yarmo and Kayode. She was in hysterics when just after I told her he'd be playing left wing at some point in the game he ran diagonally across the pitch on one of his mazy runs. She asked who I'd choose if we could only have one of them and I couldn't answer. But then she asked if we could clone one player to play all 11 positions who I'd choose and I think it would be a brilliant but mental game of football with 11 Michael Kayode's on the pitch. He's probably the most complete player in our team for most positions.

This is why MotD is crap: lots of talking points and brilliant play yesterday and all they could find to talk about was 'Thomas Frank left blah blah blah'. And showing some dive Rooney made decades ago for a bit of 'bantz'. Pathetic.

Yeah. I stopped watching regularly a while ago. Every time I tune in now, I'm amazed how little of the exciting bits of play from a game they actually show, it's a shame.

They did a piece on him after Liverpool game, so can’t keep doing it. He’s just immense every week.

Indeed. Part of his effective-chaos is frequently somehow winning balls that are 40-60 at which point space opens up cos his opposite number is on the floor.

The thing which marks out Kayode Chaos is that he knows what he’s doing and so does the rest of the team. On one of his RB to LW charges yesterday I noticed Hickey quietly crossing round from LB to RB and Dango dropping behind MK.

He rarely gives the ball away on those forays but we remain structured in 433 in case he does and doesn’t win the ball back immediately. It’s very good organisation and teamwork that must take a lot of relationship building as well as being very hard to defend against because he doesn’t leave a hole behind him for very long.

An interesting tactical tweak during second half KA mentioned in his post match press conference regarding Dango and Kayode. KA asked Kayode to play slightly deeper, with Dango playing slightly higher to create space for Dango to attempt more one on one take ons. Worked rather well 😊.

I think Nigeria want him and, if they're able to qualify for the world cup (smashing Gabon in ET so looks like 2 more wins to go), it may give him food for thought but he's gone on record to say he wants to play for Italy.

The pathway looks blocked with their current #1 in that position being the 3rd most senior/capped player in the current Italy squad and the back up is Atalanta's RWB who's played at every youth level with almost 90 caps. Then you've got Cambiaso who's a versatile FB.

If staying out of international football and being ignored of MOTD means we can enjoy him a little longer without other clubs sniffing around and unsettling him, I'm all for it.

I think it would be a late decision if there's an outside chance he does choose Nigeria just to play in the world cup, so AFCON next month is very unlikely. My hope is they don't qualify (sorry FTT and Fredrick) so he can buy himself more time - he's still only 21 - but that could also accelerate his Brentford departure as those 3 players ahead of him in the Italian NT all play for big teams and have CL experience.

As he's Italian born and as far as I'm aware had spent his whole life there until this move, it'd be nonsensical to choose Nigeria. He'll play for an elite European team but he is definitely good enough to force his way into the Italy team for the World Cup while playing for Brentford. You can see from Italy qualifying results that they are desperately lacking in quality. Kayode is miles better than any England right-back.

Probably comes down to whether Italy want him. ATM it would appear this is not the case, so if he wants to play in the WC playing for Nigeria is the only option remaining. Unfortunately it does not always come down to whether your good enough or not (as we know from Rico and Ivan). Might come down how badly Michael wants to play in the WC, or not.

Michael has played for the Italy U18, U19 and U21s (and scored the winner in the 2023 U19 Euros), so he’s very well known in the Italian system. He’s only just 21 and the current incumbent in the national side is 32. It’s just a (small) matter of time 😉

Look at the age profile of the squad we’ve built: Donovan 18; Konak, Meghoma, Nunes 19; Arthur, Fredrick, Kim, Milambo 20; Kayode, Yarmolyuk 21; Carvalho, Hickey, Ouattara, Schade, Van Den Berg 23; Collins, Lewis-Potter, Thiago, Valdimarsson 24; Damsgard 25; Kelleher 26. Even the “vets” Ajer, Dasilva, Janelt and Onyeka are only 27.

That’s a fantastic base for the long-term future of the club. None of our top 10 most ‘valuable’ outfield players are over 25, and I don’t see us selling any of the crown princes any time soon... the future's too bright

Italy thrashed at home by Norway. Must be one of the worst Italian teams of my lifetime. If Gattuso doesn't put Kayode in the team for the playoffs he must be a clown.

Nigeria not making the WC hopefully makes that temptation slightly less for MK. I feel bad hoping he'll choose Italy because it shouldn't really matter, but I just don't want to lose him for AFCON. Who knows how long we'll have the undiluted pleasure of watching this lad play for us – want to soak up every second.

Kayode is Italian, just as Mbuemo is French and Pinnock and Henry are English. The others played for the nation of their parent or parents when they decided the country of their birth wouldn't pick them. That's my reading of it anyway but it seems logical. I'm not an expert on Italian defenders but I'd be astonished if Kayode were to find himself in the same position. By the end of the season he'll be the envy of every big club. There's no way he's going to burn his bridges and head off to Afcon.

An Italian supplier of ours informs me that MK is too unpredictable to fit into the structure of his old team and the national team. If he doesn’t know what he’s going to do, how can the other 10 players and the coaches.
Agrees there is a good player there just not an Italian style player who is clear with his and the teams objectives and structure.

I’ve shortened what he said as it took 20 mins for him to explain the above to me. Never heard so much tosh in all my life.

True, I think. They don’t know what to do with him. At the U21 Euros he was often literally a utility sub, covering defence and midfield when they were chasing the game. At least they recognised his skill and athleticism.
He needs to continue having a very good season, and Italy should eventually make changes to accommodate him.
