iMO he’s giving his wingers way too much space and time.
👍
Seems to be struggling pace wise too...Regularly beaten in 1on 1s with the winger running at him both last week at Leeds and in first half today.

One of Kayode’s strength is his physicality and power. The #10 had the same attributes (and some) and so his head start had gone…..

He has many strengths, but like any player he can't be good at everything. For all his athleticism, strength, and speed over distance, his acceleration isn't at the same level. This makes those instant speed wingers (Doku the extreme case) a real challenge, and possibly why he leaves them a fair amount of space.

I think the last two games have shown that to some extent. But that's life. Everyone has good and bad matchups. Over the season he'll have more good ones than bad. Just pleased that Hickey came in and showed what great quality options we have at RB these days.

Made me smile when people thought we might lose him to Real Madrid or something in the summer.

He's been excellent for us so far, but he's still very raw and will continue to make mistakes IMO.

He's never actually been that quick, he's just full of energy and he looks to be a little light on that at the moment by his own high standards.

He'll be a Brentford player for a while longer yet, but still a very good one.

I think he struggled a bit this season but I think that might push him to use his tactical brain more. It was fantastic how he closed Angulo, close to our goal at some point, even if he was physically and technically overwhelmed

Yeah. Whilst I’ve had similar thoughts to the previous comments about tiredness or baby brain…I can’t help feeling he could learn from how Hickey coped better. I don’t think that was because of physical abilities but rather mental ones.

Like to know what his brief was yesterday. He played so far inside leaving Sunderland #10 so much space which he exploited to our cost.
You have to give Sunderland credit for their tactic of leaving the 10 very high and wide as a constant out ball though. Kayode didn't know how tight to get and was worried about getting forward and when Outarra went forward, there was huge gap. We didn't get to grips with it.

It will not get any easier for him as all tacticians will have worked out how to play him. He will have to start using his brain a little more. Cream always rises to the top.

Credit to KA for reacting at HT but it seemed quite obvious what was happening 20 mins in. In hindsight it may have been sensible to instruct Kayode and Ouattara to drop a few yards further back allowing Kayode to get a little tighter and trying to stop the flow down our right hand side.
