HULL City's fight to hang on to Michael Turner has begun in earnest after receiving a first "verbal offer" for their star defender.
But the opening bid - believed to be from Liverpool - has been dismissed outright for being "nowhere near" the Tigers £12m valuation.
Manager Phil Brown, who met with Turner and his agent yesterday, reiterated his desire to hold on to the 25-year-old in the face of mounting interest.
He said: "We've had a verbal offer from a club in the Premier League but there's been no firm offer through communications at boardroom level. That was nowhere near our expectations.
"I'm still adamant that it would take a big offer to prize Michael away from us, no matter who that club is.
"Our valuation of Michael is based on the current market and what it's doing to us.
"We've got a prized asset there and I will guarantee that no player will leave the club on the cheap.

would have hoped they'd hold out for more, but i guess if he wants to go they won't stand in his way. Lots of lovely for us as well... if it was to go into the playing budget i'd spread it out over a few years (say add 200k over four years or something...) Of course it may be (understandably) needed to cover debt repayments!

Reading the paper on the train up to Carlisle there was an interview with Brown in which he denied using any sunbeds and said his tan was completely natural!!!! That comment had me and my brother laughing for ages!

No, because you have to take off the original £375K. So £1.74m
They won't get anywhere near £12m imho and if they don't sell now his value will likely diminish as the club struggle in the premier and his contract runs down.

Liverpool could have paid off the bank of mexico's debt in the last 10 years with the money they have wasted on crap players. I do not think they would go for a poorer player just to save to save half a million quid when they happily spent 20M on a player who averages 14 games a season last week.
