........14 points takes Middx to 221but Surreys max. Is 226 and Northants max is 228..........not enough then.......

You're quite right. I dont quite understand my working out. 
1st Middx - 207 points - max 255
2nd Northamption - 204 points - max 228

So 21 more points to get promoted.

Essex 91/0 at lunch. Good stuff.
Going to do some funky calculations now... which hopefully will be right. Essex looks like it could be a draw, with the weather etc. So providing Surrey get full bowling points (3) plus their batting points (3) plus their draw points (4) will give them... 191 points with 1 to play, the max they can get is 215, which means Middx will need just 9 points to get promoted. So bowl Glamorgan out inside 110 overs, score just 250+ and draw the match, which considering conditions, isnt far off.
Im too excited. Cant wait to get promoted.

Depends, with the 1 innings then they normally declare the 1st innings, for 0/0. but by doing that it'll mean no bonus points. however if they shake hands on 1st innings cos of the bonus points...

Just been reading the rules if the match is drawn just 3 points each,
It would appear that to be one innings both sides have to declare forfeiting any batting or bowling points and then go for the 16 point win

Essex 45/2 meaning still just over 300 runs to get not likely
Therefore assuming no more play (or points) in cardiff Middx currently have 210 plus the draw meaning 213 one to play max 237
Northants 204 with one to play max 228
Surrey have 187 plus the probable 16 making 203 max 227
Interesting to note that Surrey have not achieved a 24 point game this season but play Derbyshire so may well then
Northants at Gloucestershire not easy
Middx at Leicestershire should win all subject to weather

Have played with some confidence this morning, with Rogers, Simpson and Rayner playing some great shots. Since reaching 250 Middx, have basically batted with a purpose to score runs, taking a few more risks than im sure they normally would, had time been on their side. The intention was clearly to build a lead and see if they can get Glamorgan out cheaply.

Weather permitting, one could argue that if we don't beat Leicester in the final game then we don't deserve to be promoted. However we will beat them won't we ?
