On Beesplayer ,Sam Saunders was eulogising about Llera's great ability with free kicks. And I reckon Sam can be regarded as quite an expert on the subject.
I think last Tuesday's effort that almost hit a 65 bus, was the exception rather than the rule...

Just to clarify, the 65 in question was on the far side of Kew Bridge.

Miguel Llera

Some of the anti Llera comments on here are hard to understand. In both games he has won his headers and tackles, distributed the ball very well and not been bullied. He hasn't dropped any clangers either. He conceded a free kick on Saturday [ ludicrous ref decision] but let's get it clear, Llera didn't score for Preston and neither did the ref. It was crap defending and Llera wasn't to blame. I hope he stays as long as poss.

Miguel Llera

I don't think Llera is a bad signing given the injury to Legge and Pim's loan yet from what I have seen of him so far I don't rate him above Eger. Llera's style of play will give away free-kicks in dangerous positions as evidenced against both Colchester and Preston games and whilst of course any centre half will give away his fair share of those he seems quite prone to this. He is undoubtedly a strong player and distribution from the back is occasionally excellent but I would still prefer a KO/Eger combonation at the moment.

Miguel Llera

Maybe the wrong thread but.......
Before Legge got injured our problem was lack of goals, defence was fine apart from the fact that the ball was not played out very well and the fullbacks were unable to mount attacks and therefore were not linking up very well with Mcginn and Weston. Forgive me if I am a little old fashioned but the prime purpose of a defender is to defend is it not?
The change from Legge to Eger was forced upon Uwe who did not seem that keen on breaking up the partnership with Karleigh beforehand. The right fullback position has been a problem for a while and certainly all last season. We appeared to have solved it but again an unfortunate injury to Logan has thwarted Uwe.
Our major problem is still a lack of goals and the current system of playing Clayton up front with a ball playing CB ( Llera) and the two attacking fullbacks has not helped matters. Thompson was woeful on Saturday and any benefit that we gained from him being able to get forward was far outweighed by his poor defending. Like it or not Lera gave away the freekicks that led to Colchesters equaliser and Prestons killer 3rd goal. They may have been harsh decisions but with the standard of refs in this league that is always a possibility. The point is surely that if you make clumsy awkward challenges that is going to happen as often as not.
Lee was nervous from the start on Saturday and the same can be said of Karleigh. The whole defence had been destabilised against probably the most potent attack in the league. we got our just desserts for this.
I am all for trying to play the game in the way we saw against Colcheter but Saturday was not the day for it.
We have won the last 2 away games without conceding and that was with Eger playing alongside Karleigh. Why change that? Its an experiment that hasn't worked and I shudder to think what Uddersfield will do to us if we persist with it.
If Llera was so good and better than Karleigh why did Charlton get rid of him and try to buy Karleigh. Why did Blackpool take him, play him once and ship him out to us?

Miguel Llera

A little disappointing after a very good performance against Colchester - but Preston's forwards were a different class so made it much harder. Still seems the right sort of player to be a reasonable loanee while Leon is injured

Burford, it's all about opinions and I disagree with just about everything you've said except your second para. Re lack of goals, I don't necessarily think it's the system-we have created enough chances after all. I don't think we'll ever make a management team:D

I think a lot of that is spot on Burford, my only minor quibble is that Saturday was the first poor game Thompson has had and upto that point he's done a sterling job for us. Think you're absolutely right about our centre half pairings.

Charlton did not 'get rid of Llera' :banghead: he moved on a free to Blackpool as his contract ran out. He moved up a league not down. Give me strength.

Presumably with the money that Charlton have spent if they had wanted to keep him after his contract ran out then it would not have been a problem for them. So they got rid of him in just the same way that we would if we didn't want to retain a player whose contract had run out! Blackpool hardly seem enamoured by their aquisition.

It is a mystery to me Wanderer why some posters have a down on Llera. He's won his headers, tackles, passes well and doesn't get bullied. Not sure what else he can do. He'll play vs Oldham for sure.

Haven't got a downer on him and think he's a perfectly acceptable signing as cover whilst Legge is out. Still believe IMHO he gives away too many free kicks in dangerous positions and on the evidence so far I believe that Eger is a more solid option in partnership with KO. Still Uwe obviously believes otherwise and he's the bloke that's paid to make the decisions and knows the players a lot better than we do.

I find it difficult to understand why so much loyalty is shown to a player who we have on loan for a month and gives away pointless freekicks whilst slagging off a player who until 2 games ago was the most consistent player we have, was last years player of the season and chose not to piss off to Charlton when he had the opportunity. karleighs poor performances have coincided with Llera's arrival. Coincidence or What?

Its because we lost, after Tues he was the new Beckenbauer. If we win sat he will be Bobby Moore, if we lose he will be Alan Whitehead.

Well not quite Nick..... for my part I thought he was fair enough signing but was surprised that he went straight in at Egers expense. To reiterate from the evidence of the two games I've seem him he's a strong player who can play the ball out but who has a propencity to give away needless free kicks in dangerous areas. I didn't think or claim he was the new Beckenbauer after Tuesday night and certainly won't be comparing him to either Moore or Whitehead regardless of what occurs on Saturday at Oldham.

I think on current evidence KO and Eger is a more solid partnership.

I like Llera but thought Eger was unlucky after Walsall and Wycombe. But Uwe has said all along he will rotate

Agree that Eger was unlucky after Wycombe as he defended well and found time to wind the locals up. I do hope Uwe doesn't rotate too much as he'll end up really dizzy

Miguel Llera

i think we should just play our strongest team week in week out.

Exactly - Great debut he's what we've missed, mixed bag on Saturday and he's useless, get rid and replace with Eger.

Too many extremes, GPG always littered with Over kill
but Grella, Clarkson and Llera signings seem to have taken it to new levels.
FFS, 2 of the three are only short-term fixes anyway.

:banghead: For one I agree with you totally about over kill on the GPG but let me for my part make it very clear once again.... I for one didn't rave over his performance against Colchester and agree that it was definately a mixed bag on Saturday. I don't think he's 'useless' and I have gone on record stating that IMHO he's a useful short term cover whilst Legge is injured, however what I have also said is that I would personally prefer to see Eger paired with KO at the moment.

Fair do's I don't think it's all aimed at you Balders, I just
questioned the extremes. There is a post on here that basically claims Llera is a complete liability and responsible for the draw against Col U and Saturdays defeat, it's embarrassing to read such dross that these people support Brentford. I just pray they're kids or senile but not responsible adults.

FYI I am certainly not a kid and I dont believe that I an yet senile although I am beginning to question the wisdom of posting to a website where people respond to points of view that they disagree with by by personal insults.
I stand by what I said about Llera, I may well be wrong as indeed so may you. Its a matter of opinion and one would hope sensible debate.I have supported this club for in excess of 50 years, I think I have earned the right to a point of view. A defenders main purpose in life so far as I am concerned is to defend. End Of! Its a great bonus if in addition to this he can score and create goals but its not a lot of good if we are leaking them like a sieve at the back.
we play 2 away games with Osborne and Eger and concede none and 2 home games with osborne and Llera and concede 4. Its surely possible that this just might be because we have replaced Eger with Llera.

Preferring Eger to Llera is an opinion and of course you're welcome to it. You maybe right and in a way I hope you are as Marcel is ours and want him to be a success. If however you believe that Llera alone was responsible for us losing against Preston and the draw vs Col U I reserve my right to the opinion that you cannot be a responsible, intelligent adult.

Miguel Llera

Agree totally with Burford Bee. I too have supported the club over 50 years and hope I'm not senile yet although friends do question me with all the premiershite clubs I could go to! Two stupid free kicks given away by Llera have cost us dear. Why change a central pairing what had won 2 away games and not let in a single goal? Keep a winning side together I say. By the way I like KOC and Beanie - they don't deserve all the stick they get on here.

Did I say that he was the only reason for those results?
We missed enough opportunities against Colchester to have had the game well and truly won long before the last minute equaliser, and Preston basically outplayed us and deserved to win. That does not alter the fact that I believe that Llera was responsible at least in part for the 2 goals resulting from the freekicks since he conceded them in dangerous positions by awkward challenges.
I resent these personal comments, I dont believe they are necessary and they detract from the argument. I dont believe I have questioned your mental capacity and I would appreciate it if you would desist from questioning mine!

Miguel Llera

Hmmmm. Probably time to draw a line under this one as it's all about opinion and only Uwe's counts.

Miguel Llera

Lera impressed on Tuesday with his passing and general defensive duties although did seem that he was a free kick waiting to happen, still think lucky on Tuesday not to be booked for a two footed tackle. Saturday again his passing was good however his defensive duties seemed to evaporate with the rest of the defence and keeper and once again was a free kick waiting to happen.

That having been said I would imagine he must have impressed Rosler and maybe it was his physical presence that was looked for.

We are now in a position where we have 3 fit centre backs and I would presume that Rosler will review performances during training and determine which 2 he wants to play on Sat, at present I would suggest that nobody is totaly secure in their place.

Miguel Llera

Both Mattbee and Burfordbee have it completely spot on. When I first saw Llera play again Colchester, I was also sucked in by a few of his long passes but in the meantime, it definitely became obviously that he can't read the game particularly well. Llera struggles with headers, they go beyond him, not to mention the silly fouls!

According to Legge himself, he wont be back for 3 weeks so until then definitely play Eger. It's not a surprise that Llera didn't play much before he came to us, the reason is become clearer with each game he plays. Bees can do better!

Great news about Leon, I heard it second hand that they thought another couple of months at least

I thought Llera had a great debut but at the time expressed a concern that he had a touch of Mackie about him and wrestled with players - a big player will always
get a foul given against him vs a littl'un and so it proved against Hume the other day. I'd rather have Legge back but still believe Llera may be a better bet against big strong centre forwards than Marcel and UR sees the players every day so trust he knows what he's doing.

Miguel Llera

I really hope not, I was hoping he'd be a John Buttigieg type and a ball playing defender. Leon started particularly well this season and would imagine made it very hard to drop him and Karleigh bar Saturday has been excellent as well.

Miguel Llera

I hope you're right Sonofabee, I'd like to be wrong about Llera...we all want the best team possible after all! I'm not entirely convinced yet, but you never know :) I do agree that against smaller players, he'll be at a disadvantage but I think his flaws go beyond his size :/

Not confident enough to state Llera is what we need based purely on two and a little bit games but have seen signs that hopefully the pro's outweigh the cons. He's confident, communicates and rallies the players, great distribution and great in the air. Downside is he grapples with players and will always concede free kicks and he is a bit of a tart with the play acting.

If honest, I was delighted when I read we'd signed an experienced ball playing centre half from Bundeslega
but he's not the John Buttigieg type of player I'd hoped for.
So far I've been underwhelmed and IMHO he's been OK but no better in the 3 games I've seen him start although I accept it'll take time to adjust. He has the pedigree and I'm sure he'll be fine but I also trust that the Management team know which games will suit which formations and players.

Fingers crossed as you say, we all want the same end goal.

Bloody hell mate, you've changed your tone considering the insults that directed at me yesterday.

Miguel Llera

Bloody hell mate, you've changed your tone considering the insults that directed at me yesterday.

In terms of offending with my posts than yes.

If you mean my opinion of players, not at all, read my comments from before Saturdays game where I stated that Llera had a great debut but he was a bit of an octopus and would give away free kicks.

Looking back it wasn't you who stated Llera "is a complete liability and was responsible for us drawing against Col U and losing yesterday". I objected to that and then soon after as I read through posts you had a pop albeit not as bad I accept and only a view but I bit. I would rather have a fit and improving Leon over both Llera and Marcel but in his absence believe that Llera is far better suited than Eger to playing against typical big, strong, league 1 centre forwards - in hindsight he may have been better off picking up Mellor on Saturday.

I'm just fed up to the back knackers who always seem to have an expert opinion, better than the Managers and express them after adverse results and performances rather than before them. You copped the flak, I'm sure you're not a cretin and I apologise but wish there was a more positive outlook to enforced loan signings than I've witnessed. You can post whatever you like I'll avoid replying so I can't offend.

Miguel Llera

I'd like to ask those who don't rate Llera what they expect a centre back to do. He won his headers and tackles, wasn't bullied, wasn't caught out of position and distributed the ball very well. His distribution has also been a key element in enabling us to play a decent level of football.OK he conceded two free kicks which led to goals. IMO the one vs Col wasn't a free kick but credit to the scorer as it was a gem of a shot. He conceded a kick against Hume who mugged D''Urso. No way was that a free kick. Llera wasn't the only player conceding kicks. There were plenty conceded wide which Preston were putting in the box and we defended them well. And in the immortal words of Bill Shankly , refs don't score goals and it's up to the team to defend. As far as I could see Mellor got the third as a certain defender went walkabout instead of picking him up and it wasn't Llera.
He'll be playing on Saturday for sure.

Miguel Llera

It is not that I don't particulary rate him he's average but I have a loyalty to players contracted to BFC and unless they are utterly hopeless than I would rather see them in the shirt

Well in that case, we may as well not bother with anymore loanees or transfers and play with those still in contract from last year

We should finish mid table but everyone is happy and gets a game and we can relax as no nail biting games challenging for promotion. hanworthbee, you usually post sensibly man, what's got into you, do you honestly want what we've had for most of the last 50 years with the squad AS left behind or do you want to gamble by bringing in better players and see if we can get up?

Apology accepted, dont worry I am guilty of firing off myself sometimes, its only natural if your passionate about something. FWIW I get a little fed up with everybody trying to be the manager when we only see 90 mins football on which to base our judgements and dont know whats happened in training and fitness issues. I always try to get behind the team whoever is playing and I am sure the same applies to you.

I am quite happy to loan players like Blair Adams, Schlupp, Chesney, Mcginn up and coming youngsters with something to strive for..not seasoned 31 year old pros who in my opinion is no better than what we already have

Fair do's , you rate Eger above Llera, you may have seen more of him than the the three games I've witnessed to base your opinion.

However, the management team work with the players day in and day out at training and must have seen a need to get someone in to replace Legge in the short term - I'll leave it at that.

I also like Eger. He's a good footballing centre back. I suspect the issues for the management are the need for distribution, pace and physical presence at the back. IMO it's his pace which keeps Karleigh in as neither Eger or Llera are quick.Llera gets the nod alongside Karleigh as he gives us a physical presence which Eger can't match. When Leon comes back, he will offer pace and physical presence and it could be a difficult time for Karleigh if he doesn't revive his game as I can see Leon and Eger partnering up. I don't think Uwe will go without a footballing centre back.

cnt remember wot game but a few weeks ago he handballed at least 3 times it was at home. Very continental and can c him conceding a lot of free kicks!!! Eger and KO for me.
