And of course we don’t have FFP problems! I think all things being equal (they aren’t) Wolves would have held on to him. Suspect Lopetegui may bail out before the season starts.

Thought he was excellent v us got Burnley that day up until he wasn’t very late in, said to a very prominent member of our club a few weeks later after seeing a few Burnley games that we should pick him up when Burnley go down.
From memory, I’m sure he’d caught our attention but 20 million to Wolves seemed loads to me, a year on and he’s here but costing more.

I guess we didn’t have a vacancy last summer as we still had Pontus and were getting Mee. An extra £3m for a year more experience is a decent deal.

Of course, I thought he be 8 mill last summer but obviously I’m so detached from reality, I don’t think we were spending 23 mill on a CB last but after another “successful” year puts us in a position where we can, I’m delighted we’ve got him.

8 year deal....you can tell we rate him Jesus. His deal may expire in 2031!

Either way, a move that makes perfect sense. We now get the younger defender in who can learn off Mee and Pinnock etc, who can then become a more senior defender in there as time goes on. Solid business I think.

There is less chance he will be around our club in 2031 than I will be:)

Have to say impressed and happy with this deal.

A future back 3 of CBs of Pinnock Collins and Ajer. Now that's pretty impressive.

Mee will give us another year of imperialist defending. Ajer hopefully will overcome some injury issues and reach his potential levels.

I don't know if that makes it a decent deal but probably more a reflection of the current market.

I've just watched the interview, looked up his ex-pro Dad and realised I'm two years older than him. In my head I could still do a job at right back, but when I'm older than the parents of our players (and I know there will already be others), reality bites!
